- Our first issue of October 2025 is headlined by Mila Smart Semeshkina (your_smart_mila), founder of Lectera and the Women’s Empowerment Council (we.council)! With the rapid rise of both her ventures, Semeshkina’s journey is more than just a growth story—it is a testament to conviction, clarity of vision, and the discipline to execute at scale without compromise. "Scale matters: the more visible we are, the louder women's voices become in business, and the more women are recognized as successful, strong, and powerful,” she declares. Also in this issue: From breaking ground as a female pioneer in television to launching her own wellness brands proageaestheticsacademy and The UMA Show, Uma Ghosh (umaghosh) has built a career on authenticity—an approach she now channels into empowering women to make informed decisions about their health. Plus: How Wassim Hassanieh empowers businesses with secure, scalable, affordable tech through Lebanon-based CloudTaktiks and Magnar; du’s Gregg Pearce shows how the telecom empowers SMEs to lead digital transformation; and Nafas (nafasidn) is charting growth in Qatar with a vision for cleaner air. Also check out all the highlights from our Tech Innovation Forum and Awards 2025 - a day that brought together, and celebrated, MENA entrepreneurs and investors redefining business and society. This issue also puts the spotlight on: how RAKEZ (myrakez) is powering sustainable manufacturing in the UAE; and the nature positive entrepreneurs are heading to the IUCN World Conservation Congress (iucn_congress) in Abu Dhabi this year. In important news stories coming from within the UAE: Ras Al Khaimah unveils Innovation City (innovationcity_inc), opening a new chapter for RAK Digital Assets Oasis; and UAE sets an ambitious goal of two million companies by 2031. 📍All this and more can be found on issuu using the link in our bio!
- ❓ Is toxic positivity at work hiding real struggles instead of helping? 🌍 The World Health Organization (2022) warns that workplace cultures which downplay stress or silence emotions fuel depression and anxiety, costing an estimated 12 billion lost workdays annually. 📊A 2025 review found that suppressing negative emotions increases burnout and isolation, while eroding trust and communication (American Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences Research). Closer to home, the GIG Wellbeing Report (2024) shows that while 82% of MENA employees rate their wellbeing as positive, 65% still faced a mental-health challenge last year. 🗣️ “The important thing is to recognize that we are humans before we are managers,” says Kibsons CEO Halima Jumani. She adds that tackling toxic positivity is a two-way street: leaders must create safe spaces, but employees must also communicate openly. 💬 The root lies in communication. When only upbeat talk is rewarded and hard conversations are dismissed, staff stay silent and problems fester. Over time, this breeds a culture of toxic cheerfulness where issues remain hidden instead of solved. 🎬 Watch the full video to hear Jumani’s take on how leaders and employees alike can break the cycle of toxic positivity. 🔗 Read the full written feature on Jumani and Kibsons using the link in bio!
