Join me for an extended Yin Yoga practice to embrace the changing seasons. As the seasons shift, it is a great time to work on grounding the body to brace the change happening all around. Yin Yoga is a wonderful way to ground the body and find equilibrium. All levels and abilities are welcome. 

Yin Yoga is a style of yoga for all bodies that involves long holds in various seated and reclined poses to access deeper layers of fascia and to quiet the mind. 

There are three elements of Yin Yoga: find your edge where you can feel sensation but without straining; remain still; and allow yourself to stay for time—three to ten minutes depending on the posture. It’s a simple practice with profound therapeutic benefits for longevity, vitality, flexibility, and more.

The session will conclude with an option essential oil temple massage.

Feeling refreshed and ready to take on this week! I’ve been fighting off a cold for a week now and have truly been practicing what I preach, taking time to rest and care for myself ❤️ It’s working wonders! 

This time of year is so tough. It’s dark, it’s cold and it feels like everyone is getting sick! But it’s also a time urging us to slow down, to be cozy, and to enjoy staying in. Over the years I have learned time and time again the importance of rest and self kindness especially when feeling under the weather. And I have created a workshop that is all about just that! I taught my Immune System Boost workshop recently blackheathyoga_ and I’ve got another one coming up Thursday, 27th Feb charltonlidolifestyle in case you missed it 🙏🏻

After a very merry and restful break with family I am flying back this evening to London! I’m so excited to get back to teaching! I’m so happy I’m even smiling doing Chaturanga! 😂😍

I am so proud of how far I’ve come this year. I have grown so much and have truly taken the reins on my life. 🥰

I took risks, made tough decisions as I learned how to choose myself! I’m starting off 2025 with 10 regular classes every week! I am so grateful to all of my wonderful students, for your support and encouragement as I learned so many important lessons including the importance of rest! I have truly rested this year and it has felt amazing! A lifestyle I will continue to enjoy in 2025. 🙏🏻

I am so excited to announce that I will be teaching another Restorative Flow class blackheathyoga_ Fridays 4:30-5:30pm. This class is the perfect way to let go of the work week and unwind for the start of the weekend. 

🪷A little bit more about Restorative Flow 🪷

This class will begin with a guided meditation to allow your body to ground and settle in the room. You will then be lead through a mindful breathing exercise to slow down your parasympathetic nervous system (Rest/Digest System). This will lead into gentle slow mindful movements to give you awareness of how your body is doing and what it needs. Then, you will be guided into Restorative yoga postures that will be held anywhere from 4-10 minutes, using lots of props so that your body feels supported and held. Restorative is a passive practice where the goal is sensationlessness so that the body can truly relax and let go. You will walk out of this class feeling relieved of the week that has passed.

🪷Yoga and Essential Oils at Charlton Lido 🪷

I had the most amazing time leading 13 wonderful humans through my Aroma Flow: Yoga and Essential Oils workshop charltonlidolifestyle this past Saturday. In this workshop we explored 6 different essential oils through a slow gentle flow. I was so inspired by everyone’s curiosity and openness. 

I have gotten quite a few requests for me to teach another Aroma flow Workshop before the new year… I want to get your feedback! 🍂Thoughts on Autumn🍂

Wow… has autumn already been a roller coaster and we’re only a week into October! 😂 The weather seems to change every hour as well as my schedule — everything is up in the air! 🍃 Now is the time to put to use all of my various self care techniques because wow am I needed them all at the moment! 

So if you’re feeling a bit down at the moment, or feel like every day is an emotional roller coaster — You are not alone. I am right there with you. We have the power to change our mindset and to ground ourselves even through this time of unknown. And although I know it is tempting to let the rainy weather bring you down, there is another way to go… 

My suggestion… Do at least one calming/grounding thing every day for you. Something you know for sure will bring you ease. AT LEAST 5 MINUTES (more if you have the time). This could be enjoying a hot cup of tea, taking a warm bath, choosing a restorative/yin class rather than a fiery vinyasa (or even do both why not 😉), get out the essential oils — I know you have them now! Do the things that make you feel connected to the ground. It will save you through this crazy weather. It will remind you to be present. 

I’m right there with you. There is so much unknown at the moment. All we have to do is be present and enjoy the ride ❤️ Would love to hear what you do to ground and calm yourself? I’m always interested in new ways of bringing ease into my life!! 

And I hope to see many of you on the mat this week. 🙏🏻

✨Embracing Change✨

I love autumn… I love this time of year… The leaves change color, the weather shifts. Change is in the air. But it can also be scary. Scary to think ahead to the darker and colder days. 

I had such a lovely chat with my sister yesterday about the seasons. She talked about preparing for winter. She reminded me that this time of year is always hard, it’s always tricky - changing and shifting. But we can learn from our years past and prepare. So this year she’s stocking up on vitamins, cozy socks and a lamp to combat seasonal depression. Genius! After I spoke to her, I got online and did something that (if you can believe it) I haven’t done since moving here 7+ years ago. I BOUGHT MYSELF SOME WELLIES!! I am always miserable in my wet socks and shoes. No more! 😍😂 Just to be clear this isn’t about to be a rainboot ad 😂 what I’m trying to say is stop avoiding taking action to make your life better! Buy the rainboots! I now have rainboots, waterproof trousers, 2 rain jackets 😂 and an umbrella. I am ready! 🌧️🍂

How does this have to do with yoga? Well, just as the weather changes, so will your practice. That is okay. Take action to make your life easier, more blissful. Take that yin class, spend a bit longer in Savasana. Let your body guide you and tell you what you need ❤️

Did you know that I used to be absolutely terrified of arm balances? I was so scared of falling! So I know, I’ve been there. And I have fallen again and again. There is no secret to not falling, the secret is you learn to ENJOY falling. You learn how to catch yourself and ALWAYS get back up! (But don’t worry we’ll use cushions to soften the fall 😉)

In this workshop we will break down arm balances into their foundations to give you the strength and confidence to fly.

We will start by breaking down chaturanga, the base of practically every arm balance and from there build up to lifting our feet off of the ground. So much of arm balances is alignment, stacking the right parts in the right places as well as conquering fear. We will work on both in a fun, safe and supportive environment. We will use props to support the postures to help you find the shape while feeling safe. Some of you may stay using the props for the whole session and that is wonderful!

You may not get your feet off the ground in these 2 hours but you will gain an awareness of how the postures happen so you can continue to practice on your own. Remember that yoga is a journey, and we are all on our own path. The beauty and joy of this practice comes from the journey. Enjoy the process. Prepare to laugh, to shake, to fall and to be humbled!

This workshop is best suited to those who have chaturanga in their practice already. If you are unsure whether you are ready for this workshop talk to me directly. 🥰

I am so excited to launch my new Mindfulness at the Workplace offerings! I am very much looking forward to breaking into the corporate world and helping more people who work long hours at desks bring mindfulness and calm to their daily life! 

Time and time again, I have seen office spaces transformed by the power of movement, breath work and healthy habits — all things that can be taught. In this modern world, it is all too easy to be overstressed and constantly tense. My job is to get people moving in simple, yet effective ways, to release endorphins speeding up productivity, improving company morale and decreasing stress. 

I specialize in teaching those who are completely new to yoga. No matter where you come from, everyone can find benefits and use from the practices of yoga whether through mindful stretching, calming breath work and/or encouraging self talk. It is my job and pleasure to lead people on their journey of yoga.

✨Bittersweet News✨

Many of you already know that I will be saying goodbye to my regular, weekly classes at Calm Collective this week. This was one of the hardest decisions that I have ever had to make. Calm has become a home for me. From the first time I spoke to the wonderful Lua back in 2017 I have felt welcomed and cared for by the wonderful Calm Collective family. 

This decision was so challenging because of my love for the studio, my love for Lua and Tracy and all of the students. However, I am making this decision for me. And I think that’s what makes it so scary. I have come to realize that after 2+ years of teaching 14-19 classes a week that this is not something that I will be able to sustain. I have been exhausted, overworked and drained. And the thing is, I know it was effecting my teaching… It’s a scary thing to give up classes in order to have more time off. It feels naughty in a way, to not have a “real reason.” But as I get older I realize that my healthy is the most important reason. So I will now be teaching 9 + classes a week which will give me so much more time to focus on self care as well as my acting career which also takes a lot out of me. 

I will be reaching out to the Calm Collective crew soon to book in some workshops for autumn so do not worry I will be back! To all of you who have joined me in a class at Calm thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have grown so much at Calm collective and I am eternally grateful to you all 🙏🏻❤️

✨Finding Your Flow: Vinyasa Workshop Next Saturday 8th June 2-4:30pm blackheathyoga_✨

Want to find greater enjoyment and ease in your vinyasa flow classes? Then this workshop is for you! 

A little bit more about this workshop… 
“Vinyasa” is derived from the Sanskrit term nyasa, which means “to place,” and the prefix vi, “in a special way” such as when we link one asana (posture) to the next. In this workshop, you will learn how to flow from one posture to another with greater ease and enjoyment. You will learn how to “place” your body with care and patience so that every posture feels “special” and made for your body and breath in the moment.

Gain confidence in your body and learn how to listen to what it is that you need. The practice will start with a guided Vinyasa Flow practice which will then lead into your own personalized flow! Think of this like a movement meditation. You will connect inward, listen to the needs of your body and move in ways that feel uniquely you. We will break down tricky transitions such as chaturanga, giving tips and tools to find great ease through these challenging vinyasa flow moments. You will learn how to create your own sequences so that you can create your own practice at home. After this workshop, you will have the confidence to join any vinyasa flow class and know that you can modify, adjust and change the postures in ways that feel good in your body.

✨A Little Update…✨

I know it’s been forever! I am trying to lesson my time spent on instagram which obviously means less posts from me. I’ve gone back and forth on this for a while but I have decided that in order for me to stay inspired and enthusiastic about teaching you all in person, I need to set boundaries on how much time I spend on my teaching outside of my official teaching hours. 

That being said I will be spending some time over the week promoting my Finding Your Flow workshop that is happening blackheathyoga_ next Saturday 8th June, 2-4:30pm. This is the last workshop I will be doing before autumn so don’t miss out! I’ll talk more about the workshop in a post I’m going to do tomorrow so stay tuned. 🥰

✨The Most Underrated Part of A Yoga Class✨

The moments of stillness. 

Stillness is magic. It is also incredibly challenging. And in a different way than a super sweaty fast vinyasa… In a fast class it’s hard because of course, you’re moving quickly and the postures themselves might be tricky to get into. But what I’ve really learned is how challenging it is to be still. To truly to be still. 

When we are moving, we have things to place our awareness on, sensations to notice, instructions to listen to. When we are still… there are no distractions. So what happens? Thoughts. What makes stillness challenging is how it affects your mind. The mind doesn’t like stillness and so it will begin to run through your day, make plans — anything to avoid simply being. 

When we have the opportunity to be still in a yoga class it is a gift. An opportunity to let go of all of the extra layers and allow ourselves to be raw and grounded in the present moment. In the beginning of class this can be really challenging but toward the end, magic occurs when your mind finally lets go and your body can simply be.

A little bit more about this workshop… 

🪷Free your senses in this 90 minute yoga experience with essential oils. Learn the many effects of essential oils on mood, health and wellness. Throughout this 90 minute yoga experience, Emma will lead you through a gentle, restorative flow, all inspired by the essential oils that you smell.

The workshop will begin with a guided focus meditation, with scents known for enhancing cognitive function and memory. Then we’ll practice pranayama (breathing) enhanced by essential oils known for opening up the breath to start the practice with focus and deep breathing. Then we will awaken the body using oils known for energizing as we move into a gentle yoga flow. Finally, we’ll end with a guided meditation in Savasana to ease you into total relaxation, with oils known for helping with insomnia.

Essential oils are not intended as a cure for any ailment; rather, they help the body maintain a sense of equilibrium and well-being. You will walk out of this session feeling refreshed and grounded with a newfound understanding of the powers of essential oils and how to apply them in your daily life. 🪷

They are also usually longer than a normal hour class which gives you the time to truly delve into the practice without being rushed. If you’re curious about a certain element of the practice - look into a workshop on the subject/ask your teacher to put one on!

🪷Stretch Your Comfort Zone. Workshops are an amazing opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and to try something new or to explore something that you find challenging! There is more time and space to explore and play with the nuances in the practice. My Chaturanga workshop is a perfect example - chaturanga is a posture that is forever challenging. This 2 hour workshop combines meditation, pranayama, essential oils and restorative yoga to create a holistic practice that gives back to your body. We so rarely give ourselves time to truly rest and reset. This workshop will help you to let go and surrender to the present moment. The workshop will indulge in three essential oil blends that I have created: “Rest,” “Digest” and “Restore” along with a handout that will teach you how to make the blends yourself.

The practice will begin with a super gentle and slow flow which will warm up your body for complete rest. Then we will practice Restorative Yoga where the aim is sensationlessness. We will use as many props as needed to allow your body to completely surrender as if you are floating away on a cloud. Each posture will be held for 5-12 minutes for ultimate relaxation. ❤️

Restorative Yoga balances the nervous system, boosts the immune system, releases muscular tension and deeply relaxes the body and mind. This practice will be a gift to your body and your mind. You will walk out of this workshop feeling refreshed, restored and with your very own sample “Restore” Essential Oil Blend to bring the relaxation home with you. ✨My Trick To Being More Confident With Balance Postures in Yoga✨

And you might not like it… 

Fall. 

Okay okay I know what you’re thinking… “But I thought the whole point of balance postures was to… balance?” Well yes, but in order to be able to stand on one leg you need to first know it’s okay to fall. 

🍃Falling gets such a bad reputation but it can be so much fun and SAFE! When you are balancing, let’s say you’re in tree pose, there’s the moment when you feel off balance, you feel like you are going to fall… What is your initial impulse? Not to fall, right? What if instead of resisting the fall you let yourself fall? When you are present and you are CHOOSE to fall you can choose HOW you fall. Instead of losing control and falling into your neighbor (we’ve all been there😂) you step your foot back and fall into a let’s say, a lunge. Not only have you fallen safely but you’ve also discovered a beautiful, natural transition into another posture! Go you! It may not feel super amazing the first few times you try this, but keep going! The more you practice the more comfortable it will feel to fall safely! (Pro Tip: if you’re nervous about fallen put some blankets around you so that you know you will have a safe landing)

🍃Keep in mind that balance postures don’t refer only to balancing on one leg but also to finding balance in our minds! Can you find peace and stillness in your mind? This is where these postures get really challenging! Let go of opinions let go of judgement and be completely present with all of your wobbles and wiggles!

🍃On that note, when you fall, smile or even have a little laugh. This will also teach you that you are okay and that you are strong enough to try again! If you roll your eyes and say mean things to yourself every time you fall you’ll never want to do the posture again! So be kind to yourself always ❤️

🍃Falling safely in our yoga practice prepares us for when we are out in the world. Falling safely is an incredibly empowering practice that will save you from many injuries ❤️
