🍜 FREE JAPANESE FOOD EXHIBITION 🍜

This was one of the best activities I have done in London, the fact that it was free was the cherry on top!

Ready to book my tickets to Japan at this point - who is with me 🫡

🥐 BAKERY CRAWL IN NOTTING HILL 🥐

Last weekend’s storm did not keep us indoors: we fought against the wind, rain coming in at all angles, and were equipped with umbrellas to set out for a bakery crawl 😂

And it was so worth it.

Here is where we went:

🧁 Chai guys bakehouse

I have been wanting to go for the longest. They had their limited edition pumpkin pie pastry topped with a cheesecake cream and it was SENSATIONAL. We also had the pistachio bun which was incredibly fluffy, and the passion fruit and cardamom pastry. This went down so well with chai!

🍰 Maison Puget

We kept it simple and tried their pain au chocolat which was delicious. They were really welcoming and had great service, will be going back to try more!

🍞 Layla W10

We stopped here last and I bought a croissant - honestly after we went all out at chai guys bakehouse I had to take it easy for the remainder of the crawl. Don’t let social media fool you - there is only so many pastries you can eat in a couple hours 😂

Lastly, we ended at cafebeam for brunch (if you can still call it that at 16.15). Sadly I didn’t take content of that final part as I was ready to dig into my food, but we had a great time and I would 100 % recommend ordering the chicken flatbread.

Rain or shine, go check these places out and let me know what you think! I still have more bakeries on my list to try in that area so I will be revisiting 😎

STEP INTO ZAHRA’S KITCHEN

Fun fact: When I was 6, my dad bought the website domain “zahraskitchen” because (a) he knew him and my mum were raising a foodie (b) he has always believed that I have what it takes to start my own food business one day, and he is holding that domain until I’m ready could one day create my own food business 😭 special shoutout to him - one day I’ll bring that vision to life insha’Allah.

So on that note, let’s catch up on the things that have come out of Zahra’s kitchen lately 😉

🍆 Pistachio lamb kebab with aubergine purée {recreating our favourite meal from Turkey}

🍗 Suya honey chicken and jollof rice {SO good we had to make it twice - see slide 9}

🥥 Coconut breaded chicken in a thai coconut curry with crispy kale {one of the best things to ever come out of this kitchen}

🇦🇹 Schnitzel ceasar salad with a honey dressing {Schnitzel that was so good I had to pack it in my suitcase and bring back to LDN}

🍓A summery prawn, strawberry, avocado, spinach and balsamic salad {a yummy WFH lunch}

🍝Garlic butter prawns {bought fresh from our local Saturday farmer’s market, with a rich tomato and basil spaghetti}

🥭 Sweet sour chicken and mango {A classic that my flatmate and I created 3 years ago and have not looked back since}

🍛 A berenjak inspired Lamb Koobideh {all time favourite dish}

🥩 Vietnamese inspired steak and rice noodle salad {one of my summer favourites}

🔁 Suya honey chicken and jollof RELOADED {no further explanation needed}

FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION FINALIST

Coincidentally this is my 100th post and I have a special announcement: I am one of the Top 30 Finalists for Dubai Food Festival’s photography competition! Out of over 500 submissions across the UAE, ya girl made it 🥳

I’m really proud of this achievement for many reasons, but mostly because of the picture that earned me the finalist position. It captures a group of employees at Mama’esh, a family-run Palestinian restaurant, breaking their fast together. It was a beautiful moment I witnessed when we went there for iftar.

Here’s to celebrating the things that this photograph captures: community, togetherness, and the spirit of Ramadan. Over 800 people are part of the eatbeyondmeans community now and I’m grateful for each of you that are on this journey with me. Cant wait to see what’s in store next!

TAHINI SOY GLAZED AUBERGINE WITH A DATE & TOMATO STEW 🍅🍆

My first vegan recipe on here! I spotted a miso aubergine dish in a cookbook and its been on my mind since… but I wanted to do a middle eastern rendition in light of Ramadan here.

That tahini and soy glaze was DELICIOUS and I drizzled some on top for good measure 😉 The date and tomato stew turned out exactly how I wanted it to - rich, sweet and with a kick from the Ras el Hanout and cayenne I added.

INGREDIENTS
Tahini soy glazed aubergine
🥣 1 Aubergine
🥣 Tahini (50 g)
🥣 1 lemon
🥣 honey (4 tsp)
🥣 soy sauce (4 tbp)
🥣 chilli oil (1 tsp)
🥣 water (20 ml)
🥣 salt and pepper

Tomato & date stew
🥣 1 tin chopped tomatoes (400 ml)
🥣 7 dates
🥣 1/2 onion
🥣 2 peppers
🥣 1 garlic clove
🥣 water (30 ml)
🥣 seasoning: Ras El Hanout, baharat, black pepper, white pepper, salt

STEPS
1. Cut the aubergine in four slices lengthways and score on either side (cut lines into aubergine slice so marinade can later soak through)
2. Sprinkle aubergine with salt on both sides and leave to rest.
3. Chop dates, onions and garlic and add to pan with olive oil, baharat, ras el hanout, black pepper, white pepper and leave to simmer for 4 minutes on low to medium heat.
4. Mix tahini, honey, soy sauce, water, lemon juice and chilli oil in a bowl.
5. Dry aubergine slices with a paper towel and use 2/3 of tahini sauce to coat each slice, leave to sit in fridge.
6. Add chopped tomatoes and peppers to the pan.
7. Leave stew to fry down on medium heat for 6-8 mins.
8. Add water to stew and leave to cook for another 6-8 minutes.
9. In a new pan, add a splash of orange juice, garlic, oil and soy sauce and simmer on medium heat for 1-2 minutes.
10. Add aubergine slices into pan and cook for 3-5 minutes on each side.

Serve with rice/couscous/bulgur. Drizzle with remaining tahini soy glaze, VOILA 🤪

ICONIC DUBAI RESTAURANT

Guys, this restaurant has unlocked a new level. Welcome to citysocial_dubai , Jason Atherton’s latest restaurant. I won a three course dinner at the Michelin star restaurant after winning a cooking competition at tasteofdubai that was hosted by _jasonatherton himself. We were greeted by him at the door and then given a 20 minute tour of the restaurant: that should tell you all you need to know.

The location boasts a Japanese speak easy bar, fine dining jazz restaurant and a Michelin star kitchen all in one, with beautiful views of Dubai from the 43rd floor.

The location warranted its’ own reel but boyyyyy let me tell you: the food was absolutely AMAZING. Stay tuned for Friday’s post to see the delicious 3 course spread we had, truly fit for a winner 🤪

A big thank you to City Social for having me! citysocial_dubai

🍕UNBELIEVABLE HOMEMADE PIZZA HACK 🍕

What if I told you that you could make pizza dough at home using only 2 ingredients? I first thought it was a myth so I had to try it myself. Crazier yet, it only involves YOGHURT and FLOUR. Here’s my twist on it:

👩🏾‍🍳MARGHERITA PIZZA WITH ZAATAR AND POMEGRANATE DRIZZLE

For the dough
🥣 Plain flour (130 g)
🥣 Greek yoghurt (140 g)
🥣 Baking powder (1 tsp)

For the topping
🥣 Tomato purée (200 g)
🥣 Honey (1 tsp)
🥣 Water (20 ml)
🥣 Mozzarella cheese (125 g)
🥣 Drizzle of pomegranate molasses to finish
🥣 Zaatar (1 tsp)
🧂Salt, black pepper, white pepper and oregano for seasoning

STEPS
1️⃣ Combine flour, baking powder and greek yoghurt in a bowl and mix thoroughly
2️⃣ Sprinkle flour on surface and knead dough into a smooth ball.
3️⃣ Mix tomato purée, water, honey and chosen seasoning over low heat and leave to cook for 3-4 minutes.
4️⃣ Roll dough out into a thin round or rectangular shape
5️⃣ Spread tomato sauce across dough (until about 2 cm away from the edges)
6️⃣ Put pizza in oven and bake for 12 minutes on 200 C.
7️⃣ Add mozarella slices to pizza and bake for a further 5-8 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is a light brown.

Enjoy! I enjoyed the middle eastern twist on the pizza with zaatar and pomegranate molasses. It was inspired by a delicious coffee, pomegranate and zaatar dip by _nosoupforyou and it really worked!

🌍 For my cultured chefs: Greek style yoghurt and greek yoghurt are NOT the same thing. Greek yoghurt is typically made using goats milk whereas greek style uses cows milk and is more watery. To avoid a meltdown in the kitchen, do not use greek STYLE yoghurt. I speak from experience 🤫

FIRST BITE OF... SCALLOP AND JAPANESE YUZU CREPE IN PARIS 🇫🇷🥞

In honour of pancake day, I had to share
the best crepe (technically a galette, a savory crepe)
of my entire life. It was from breizhcafe_fr in Paris,
famous for their unique gourmet crepes and galette
combos.

I’ve never had scallops in a crepe, let alone with
Japanese yuzu lemon. The flavours EXPLODED in my
mouth - it all worked so well. It was served with a
yummy creamy spinach sauce that finished it off
wonderfully. A MUST VISIT if you are in Paris.

🤫 Tasty secret: Pancake day, aka Shrove Tuesday, is the day before lent starts, the 40 day period before Easter often marked by fasting. Pancake day was born as a way to use all the eggs and butter up 🥞

🥀VALENTINE’S DAY LONG DISTANCE EDITION 🥀

Last night my boyfriend and I put a fun spin on being apart for Valentine’s Day by assigning ourselves a challenge: we picked eachother’s restaurants for a virtual date - He chose vidahotels 3in1 restaurant for me in Dubai and I chose local hazine_uk for him in London. It was such a special way to make the most out of being long distance and funnily enough I almost felt like he was right there with me 🤧

He couldn’t have chosen better guys because 3in1 was a pleasant surprise! The poolside venue was gorgeous. I had the Wagyu barbecue steak sandwich with truffle fries and it was BUSSING. Even better, they played afrobeats throughout the whole night - the vibes were 10/10 and I couldn’t help dancing in my seat 😂

This is a reminder that you can always find a way to make all of your loved ones feel special no matter how near or far they are. Turns out love, and food, can go the distance 😉

📍Jun’s, Dubai junsdubai

🔎 Making it into MENA’s top 50 restaurants within its first few months, Jun’s is led by Canadian-Chinese Chef Kelvin Cheung chefkelvincheung. It brands itself as an Asian American restaurant, it’s menu showcasing a fusion of North American and Far East flavours with a sprinkle of Middle Eastern influence too.

🍴What we ordered
🍛Char Siu Wagyu short rib clay pot rice (EBM certified)
🥩Black pepper steak frites
🦀Soft shell crab and garlic noodles
🌶Chili Chicken (EBM certified)
🧀Mapo Burrata (EBM certified)
🍔Jalapeño Wagyu Onion Burger

🗣 I’ve had my eye on Jun’s since it opened and let me tell you - it was WORTH the wait. I could rave about this meal for days but to keep it brief - the short rib clay pot rice, the chili chicken and the mapo burrata are big must haves. The short rib was DELICIOUS - a sticky sweet barbecue glaze, and the runny yolk and broccoli finished it off PERFECTLY. The chilli chicken was so well executed, the chili was beautifully caramelised and oozing with a spicy sweet sauce that coated the chicken.

🧾 Great value for money for their business lunch which runs on weekdays from 12 pm to 3:30 pm, where you can get two courses for 110 AED. The atmosphere was really nice sitting outdoors on the boulevard, and service hit the mark - two of our dishes were slightly cold when they first came out and we were given a complimentary dessert as an apology. We got to chat to Chef Kelvin Cheung himself and got to hear more behind the story and vision behind the restaurant - excited to see where Jun’s takes things in the future as they’ve certainly had a promising start 👏🏽

🍗WHERE TO FIND THE BEST WINGS IN LONDON 🍗

📍Wingmans wingmanschicken

🔎 A UK and Europe award winning wing joint, best known for their fusion with different cuisines: Chinese, Thai, Korean, Middle Eastern, Jamaican - you name it 🤩

🍴What we ordered
🍯Bang Coq - £ 10 (Thai infusion of sriracha, honey & lime topped with kewpie mango, toasted sesame, pickled cucumber and crispy onion)
🌶 Seoulja Boy - £ 10 (Korean Gochujang Hot Sauce Topped with Roasted Sesame Dressing, Diced Pineapple, Pickled Diakon, Black Sesame & Lime)

🗣 Guys… I don’t take choosing favorites lightly but these are the best wings I had. THE FUSION OF FLAVOURS? If you put mango on my chicken it’s game over, you’ve won. Notice how I even included the description of the dish to make sure you guys can CAPTUREEEE the flavours going on in this dish. The seoulja boy was definitely my favourite, I loved the extra kick of spice and the pineapple was such a nice addition. The Bang Coq was a close second, honey and lime is an undefeated combination. As soon as I’m back I’m trying the bird khalifa, the middle eastern inspired one with zaatar and caramel sauce 😍 I just know it’ll bang.

🧾Fairly well priced as the wing portion is quite big, around 8 I believe, plus they don’t skimp on the ingredients as you guys can see. Sides start from 4 pounds for fries, although the first time I went I didn’t even get a side as I was full enough from the wings. I would hand over my money again in a heart beat to have these wings and the vibes of the restaurant top it off - buzzing even on a weekday and 90s RnB playing throughout 🥳

🍋HONEY LEMON PARMESAN CHICKEN 🍋

I present your food inspo for the week, brought to you by my dad 🤗 fromcoffeewithlove Having this page has showed me how big of a role my family has played in my journey as a foodie. We don’t play when it comes to our food and I love that my parents brought my brother and I up on delicious food from around the world - global tastebuds for the win 😉

My dad cooked this amazing lemon chicken pasta dish and I couldn’t get enough. Think of it as a spin on a schnitzel, which is then coated in a lemon and honey sauce and served with tagliatelle.

A tip - slice your lemon into thin slices and simmer with honey, lemon, and a bit of water for that extra punch. If you’re daring, you can also add lemon zest 😋

🌍 For my cultured chefs: The original lemon and pasta combo is known as Pasta Al Limone, and it comes from the Campania region of Italy. If you’re planning a trip to the Southern Italian coast this summer, go check out the real deal 😉

GLOBAL FOOD DESTINATION IN THE WEST END arcadefoodhall

As soon as we touched down in London, we headed to Arcade Food Hall - hitting a new food hall spot has become somewhat of a tradition after landing back in London 🤪

🔎 Global food destination off Tottenham court road with 9 kitchens, offering dishes from the US to Iran, Japan and beyond ✨

🍴What we ordered
🍗 Butter masala wings - £10 heroindianfastfood
🌮 Lamb Birria tacos - £10
🥘 Beef shoulder massaman curry with roti - £ 15 [RECOMMENDED ✅] plazakhaogaeng
🥟 Chicken MO:MO - £7.50 tipantapan

🗣I was so excited for the butter masala wings, they were really juicy… my only pointer would be that it needed to pack a bit more of a punch flavour wise (more of whatever they put in it because it was heading in the right direction). The beef massaman curry was definitely my FAVOURITE - it was rich, saucy and the beef was cooked really well. The roti pairing was the cherry on top. I enjoyed the chicken momo too, I’d never tried it before and I liked the sauce it came with. Honestly, the tacos were a big let down. TEN POUNDS for one taco and it wasn’t that well seasoned. The lamb was cooked well so I’ll give them that, but flavour was overall lacking. Next time going to find another birria spot as I’ve heard so much about them and I know there are good ones out there 🙈

🧾 On the pricier side for a food hall, presumably because of the really central location right off of Oxford street. Still not over the ten pounds for one taco 😂 Seems like a great place for drinks and grabbing some bites, they have a DJ too and the atmosphere is great. Overall, would definitely go back especially in the evening - just perhaps not on a completely empty stomach 😝

“Book 7 years in advance for a reservation?”

📍Do & Co, Vienna

🔎 The go to for all special occasions, located in the heart of the city overlooking St. Stephan’s Cathedral. Rumor has it that on New Years Eve, you have to book 7 years in advance for their unrivalled view of the city center. World cuisine mainly focused on South East Asian and classic Austrian dishes.

🍴Cantonese Caramelised Beef cheeks

🗣 The beef cheeks caught my eye because of the mention of chilli and fried spring roll dough (quirky I know). Let me tell you now - those things were SOFT. As in you take a bite and your teeth sink straight in. I’ve never had beef cheeks but this set the bar high. The sauce was deliciously sweet, and the shavings of friend spring roll dough added a nice texture. I was promised it would be spicy which it wasn’t reallyyyyy but by Austrian standards they did well 😂 It came with rice and a “coleslaw”, it was chopped carrots in some type of vinegar that I wasn’t the biggest fan of. Other than that, loved it.

🧾 This is definitely a pricier food option for your stay in Vienna if you’re celebrating an occasion or want to end your trip with a special dinner. They used to have a fantastic deal where you can fill your plate with as much wok ingredients as you want - fish, beef, chicken, prawn, scallops YOU NAME IT. And it was about 30 euros, but because of COVID they no longer do that 🤧 I loved my dish and for the type of restaurant, ambience and occasion, I don’t think it was overpriced.

🥧 YOUR FOOD INSPO FOR THE WEEK 🥧

Cinnamon Apple Pie in 5 ingredients ✨

I had been craving this dessert ever since Autumn started, now here we are in January 🤪 One thing about me - I LOVE ME A PIE. And this one was so easy - I just used:

🥣 Short crust pastry
🥣 7 Apples
🥣 Brown sugar
🥣 Cinnamon
🥣 Lemon juice

1️⃣Skin your apples and chop them
2️⃣ Mix apples in with sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon
3️⃣ Grease your tin and line with short crust pastry
4️⃣ Fill tin with apple filling
5️⃣ Use remaining pastry to cover filling and poke with 4 holes.
6️⃣ Bake for ~20 minutes on 180 C until golden brown.

Serve with whipped cream and a sprinkle of icing sugar if you’re feeling extra 😉

🌍For my cultured chefs: The first apple pie recipe was printed over 640 years ago in England BUT it was missing one key ingredient: sugar. Why? It was too expensive so recipes included sweet fruits like figs instead 🧐

🍰WORLD FAMOUS AUSTRIAN DESSERT🍰

Ladies and Gentlemen - Sachertorte. This original of this iconic dessert can be found at Vienna’s luxurious and regal Hotel Sacher sacherhotels . The chocolate sponge cake is filled with apricot jam in the middle and coated in a dark chocolate icing, typically served with schlagobers (cream) to balance the rich chocolate.

🤫 A tasty secret: This dessert has such an unexpected back story. Prince Metternich of Austria asked his chef to make a special dessert one evening, but his chef was ill. Guess who stepped in? A 16 year old apprentice who was working at the palace at the time. Fast forward 2 centuries later, and it’s Austria’s most famous dessert.

You can find Sacher torte at most Austrian cafes and restaurants, but head to Hotel Sacher if you want to experience the original in regal surroundings.

🗣 I was really intrigued to see beef carpaccio incorporated into a sushi roll. It convinced me to order sushi as a meal because usually I never do 😂 I liked the beef carpaccio and tempura combo, the beef was a great substitute for smoked salmon as I’m not a big fish eater. The potential was there but better seasoning for the carpaccio would’ve gone a long way and perhaps a more flavorful sauce.

🧾 I thought my dish was slightly over priced for what it was but I suppose it makes sense because of the carpaccio. On the slightly higher end in terms of their lunch menu, but a good one to visit especially for special occasion dinners as they have complimentary private rooms free of charge for parties over 6 people. Both with friends and family I have found any excuse to host a dinner in those swanky private rooms 😂 The best dish I’ve had there is their beef pho so 100 % try that if you ever make a visit!

🎙 Head to my story in the next 24 hours for a no filter story time on this dining experience 😉

🌎TOP 6 MEALS OF 2022🌎

One thing about me? I cant choose favorites when it comes to food but I did it for y’all 🤪 After sitting long and hard, these are the meals that altered my brain chemistry this year, the international edition. As in - I sat back when I first tasted each of them and said “WOW”. They each warrant their own review and trust me the content is sitting right there in my camera roll to be unleashed in 2023 😉 I could even write a whole essay for these bad boys:

1. Butter chicken burrata (Dubai) mastidubai
2. Chicken Shumai (Vienna) dots.restaurants
3. Lunch stack special (London) theivyasia
4. Shebang (London) palaettelondon
5. 7 course tasting menu (Rhodes) piatakia
6. Amazonico (Dubai) amazonicodubai

Happy new year eatbeyondmeans community ❤️ here’s to an even bigger and better year with food that makes us all sit back and go “WOW”.

📍3 Fils

🔎 The number 1 restaurant in the Middle East and North Africa. It’s a Japanese inspired restaurant homegrown in the UAE, and they offer an array of premium community style dishes.

🍴Wagyu Overload - 98 AED
🍴Asparagus tempura sushi - 38 AED
🍴Wagyu Tsukune - 41 AED
🍴Indomie, yes indomie - 30 AED
🍴72 hour lamb ribs - 58 AED
🍴Zaatar w shay - 24 AED
🍴African powerhouse - 37 AED

🗣 You guys already know how I feel about the ribs (see last post for my live reaction 😜). They were the star of the show but the remaining dishes definitely didn’t disappoint. I loved how unique the asparagus tempura was, topped with an egg ‼️🤩 only thing is I would prefer it the asparagus wasn’t cold. The Wagyu skewer as well as the burger were both delicious, very juicy and well seasoned. I loved the indomie with beef chorizo combo - it was packed with flavour, I would just say it’s a bit dry and could do with a bit of sauce. The chocolate tart hit the spot - the right amount of sweetness and made with decadent Ghanaian chocolate (I would’ve loved for it to be bigger tho 👀). LAST BUT NOT LEAST - can we talk about the ZAATAR iced tea? The creativity in this place is off the charts and it SO WORKS.

🧾 Worth every penny - I love that the top rated restaurant in the whole MENA region is fairly Lowkey, casual and most importantly AFFORDABLE. We love an accessible award-winning Michelin restaurant, and the water-side settings are perfect for a calm and relaxed dinner (sunset would be beautiful here - see the last slide).

INTRODUCING: FIRST BITE SERIES

After years of my family and friends telling me how expressive I am, especially when it comes to my food, I wanted to introduce a new series called “FIRST BITE”. It’ll feature my live, no filter reactions to the food I eat while I’m out. Eatbeyondmeans style. Been feeling like a proper food blogger when recording these out but they’re actually fun 🤣 and helping me overcome my fear of being recorded in public 🙈

We’re kicking off with my live reaction to these 72 hour slow cooked ribs from 3.fils. MY OH MY. Just watch the video, no further description needed. Full review of all the food we ate at 3.fils coming on Wednesday 😉

Let me know how you like the new series in the comments!

A WINDOW INTO MY THOUGHTS 🤫

One thing about me? I love learning, reflecting and thinking about my purpose in the things that I do. Here are some reflections inspired by attending the 1billionsummit

1️⃣Create content for YOU and you’ll attract the right people trevornoah

It’s so easy to create content thinking “what do people want to see”, but maybe the only question I should ask myself is “what do I want to see”? My page is a reflection of me and in remembering this, hopefully I’ll continue to build a great community of like-minded people!

2️⃣Incorporate your loved ones into your content maisvault

My loved ones are such a big part of my life, and my family has played an instrumental role in my food journey! Whether it be dinner parties with friends or meals my family cooks together at home, including them will paint a clearer picture of who I am!

3️⃣The power of connection

Creating content is all about connecting with people, as well as bringing people together. I see food as a way to unite people of different backgrounds, which is why I started this page. This isn’t just an Instagram account, it’s a community.

4️⃣Break the mould

Don’t let what others are doing restrict you. You can create any type of content you want to create. And if no one is doing it? Even better. You’ll be unique.

5️⃣Remember your why

Social media will have you caught up in the pursuit of pleasing the algorithm. Remember your why - why have I created this platform? What passion do I want to share with people? This is my creative outlet and I won’t let stressing over numbers take that joy away from me!

Shoutout to the 600 of you that are part of the EBM community. I’ve loved sharing this journey with each of you and trust me when I say there’s so much more to come ❤️

CONTENT CREATORS SUMMIT DUBAI 2022

A weekend for the books. I can safely say I’ve never been to a conference like this before - equal parts partying, eating and learning 🔥 I loved hearing from some of the biggest content creators across the globe (trevornoah was a big highlight 🤩) and most importantly - hearing their stories. Who they are, what they’re passionate about and what makes each of their platforms wonderfully unique.

Walking away with some unforgettable memories, inspiring takeaways and amazing people that I may have never crossed paths with otherwise 🌎 1billionsummit sure knows how to HOST a conference. Everyone take notes 🗣

So excited to implement the things I’m learning along my content creation journey and see eatbeyondmeans reach higher heights!
