Loved experiencing the Kobido-inspired Dior facial massage and products . A reminder that skincare can also be about relaxation and self-care. I’m often asked if monthly standard facials (ie cleanser, exfoliate and mask without any add on like chemical peels) are a “must.” Truth is: they can be beneficial for skin health and that much-needed me-time, especially when guided by knowledgeable estheticians, although I don’t regard it as a “must”. De-influencing as your Derm sister 👩🏽‍⚕️ Maybe it’s time for a little spring clean in your skincare routine? Some things people/ industry try and sell you where I feel you’re really just paying for vibes, not results 👇🏽 Makeup wipes: Convenient but not effective for proper cleansing as they often just smear dirt and oil around. Far prefer micellar water ! Lip scrubs: Lips don’t need harsh physical exfoliation and the skin is very delicate. To repair dry lips rather focus on hydrating products over scrubs. Pore strips: Satisfying but can be damaging and only temporary. Salicylic acid or retinoids are better long-term solutions. Cleansing devices (e.g. brushes, gadgets): Can over-exfoliate and disrupt the skin barrier if overused. Your fingertips are just fine! What else do you want to know about ? Unlike UVB, UVA is constant all year, penetrates through clouds and glass, and deep into the skin. ✨New Publication Alert✨ Sun Protection Advice for South Africans 🇿🇦☀️ Proud to have co-authored with an expert panel of dermatologists and researchers for this publication in the International Journal of Dermatology. This paper followed up on the first one , looking at tailored sun protection advice for people with inflammatory conditions like atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne and rosacea and various photodermatoses as well as for people living with HIV. I feel like this work is important to allow us to better educate patients and the public, to guide clinicians and ultimately drive behaviour change that may help reduce the burden of sun-related diseases in SA.
