One of the most gratifying AND frightening procedures I do is 💉 #dermalfiller to correct #nose asymmetry or shape. In my patient’s case, she has been bothered by the increased nostril show that started after rhinoplasty – this is a common occurrence after the initial swelling/ inflammation resolves. I told her I could either blind her or cause necrosis of her nose by injecting filler to the ala rim (especially in the setting of previous rhinoplasty) given the vascular supply of that area. She trusted me enough that we proceeded with about 4 sessions of #liquidrhinoplasty spanned over the course of 8 months to lower her ala rim, decrease nostril show, and balance her tip with the rest of her face. Her B/A may look subtle but it made a world of difference of how she felt about herself. For my injector colleagues, this is a painstaking process, I would inject about 0.05ml or less of filler, then wait for at least 10 mintues to make sure there is return of skin color (as we all know HA filler causes temporary blanching of the skin and that can mask impending vascular occlusion). And even with careful techniques, and appropriate selection of product, the risk is high, so have your emergency kit on hand!

What I love about #sciton #HALO treatment is that it combines fractional and erbium to give aggressive results without the aggressive downtime. Here are some myths that I like to debunk when I see patients with #sundamage but are afraid of laser
1. No, you don’t need multiple sessions to get improvement. With the appropriate setting you can see at least 80% improvement in just one session
2. Even if you have higher Fitzpatrick skin type, we can adjust the setting to make it safer for you. In fact many of my patients from South Florida have Hispanic/ Asian or Afro Carribean ethnicity or mixed, they still do great with a hybrid resurfacing laser.
3. You don’t need a fully ablative CO2 to get great results
4. Results from Laser need to be maintained and babied with good sun protection. Protect your investment with daily SPF, wearing large hat and avoid peak sun hours if possible
5. Laser doesn’t damage your skin with the right setting/ intensity. In fact, studies have show laser can reduce your #skincancer risks.

Sharing my top anti-aging tips to save you $$$ and wrinkles!

The biggest shocker that I listed is probably the oral collagen really hasn’t been proven to improve skin collagen (most studies have short follow up, no placebo-control, or have been funded by industry).

For my athletic patients: having a rbf when you lift weights or do crunches can save you some botox and filler in the future!

And for my very active south Florida patients: please use your #sunscreen so your #botox can last longer, and your skin can stay younger.

We cannot stop aging but we can regulate and slow down skin aging with sun protection, smart injectables, healthy lifestyle, and stress management (sun and stress plus weight fluctuations are probably the top factors that ages us)

Debunking so many myths on facial injections with this case example.
1. Don’t be afraid of “adding” when patients have fuller face.  To address sagging often we need to strategically support mid and lateral facial fat pads.  In my beautiful patient here, she was bothered by how her mid face has “fallen”, with 2 vials of #Sculptra, we were able to restore and lift without making her look “heavier”.  In fact she looks brighter and slimmer – the reason is that by restoring support we effectively restore facial balance.
2. When cosmetic injections are done with respect to individual features, we only enhance your natural beauty, and you won’t look “different”. Just “fresher” and more rested!
3. Noninvasive cosmetic procedures have evolved leaps and bounds with deeper understanding of facial anatomy and changes with aging, and product innovation. Face lifts is no longer the only answer. While I am totally for surgical intervention, I advocate for as much noninvasive treatments as possible, then time your once-in-a-lifetime face lift well to get the best of both approaches.

I can’t believe it took me 7 years to re-do my headshots. Life has been busy to say the least. Looking at the two sets photos, I realize my core has not changed - I still LOVE what I do, love learning new innovations in dermatology, and so grateful that I get to make a living while doing it, and I still work hard in search of that precarious balance of work/ family and my own well being. But over the past 7 years, I have pared down and simplified my life in a lot of ways. For example, no more 12-step skincare! Just the essentials. No more dressing up for work, love my scrubs and sneakers! No makeup unless it is a very rare special occasion. NO MORE chasing one fad “cleansing” to another. I have also been slowly getting more protective/ selfish about things that keep me healthier: sleep, working out, no late dinners and just saying no when my plate is full

On the beauty side, I am grateful for good skincare, good lasers (HALO, MN/RF, Sofwave, PicoSure), loads of sculptra/ neuromodulators, a few fillers (sparingly). And big thanks to my derm besties dr.adrianepompa drjanellevega and drjordanaherschthal for maintaining my youth!

#Beforeandafter treatment of acne scars. My beautiful patient came to me last year seeking improvement for her skin texture and box-car acne scars. With her trust and diligience, we started with one session of polylactic acid and subcision to break down tethering scar tissue, fill in with her own collage. Then did two sessions of microneedling with radiofrequency at aggressive setting to improve skin texture and treat the pitted scars. Look at her results 8 months later! Smoother, more even and supple skin. She feels so much more confident and happier in her own skin.

Leave your question about acne scar treatment and I will do my best to answer them!

I am grateful for patients like her sharing her journey and her photos, it is important to appreciate that there is no magic bullet to treat complex acne scars, and often we need to be patient, space out the treatments and combine the right modality based on patient's skin type and needs.

Save this reel if you’re planning to get any ablative LASER or RF/MN procedures done (but consult your doctor first to make sure my post-procedure recommendations align with theirs). I just did my annual #HALO which is a hybrid fractional ablative LASER for skin discoloration, texture and fine lines, but I can’t afford taking 2 days off, so I kept working with a red face 😆, and had to drive back/forth during the first 2 days post-procedure (when I can’t wear any SPF or makeup). Solution: wear a giant hat in the car!!!

My go-to recovery regimen:
First 48 hours: Alastin Nectar by alastinskincare throughout the day
Day 3: add my #exosome serum by platedskinscience back to boost LASER action on skin cells, speed up #skinbarrier repair with Skin Recovery cleaner and light moisturizer by eltamdskincare
ALSO, my trusted tinted mineral SPF by skinbetter day 3 and onward.

My MENDS are almost all gone by day 7, and already feel that #haloGLOW 🎉

If I had to guess, a bunch of skincare!!! Look at badbunnypr skin…

I am loving how men are also getting into #selfcare and #skincareroutine . Men in general have thicker, more sebaceous skin. They may show collagen loss a little slower but many have a late awakening in skincare. For most of my male patients, I recommend starting with a simple routine: cleanser twice a day, SPF every morning. Then add vitamin C or #niacinamide in the morning to combat ROS (reactive oxygen specie build up from UV exposure). Then if still motivated and needed, add nightly #retinol for pore refinement. For men who are prone to get in grown hair or acne, incorporating AHA/ BHA (alpha hydroxy acid and beta hydroxy acid) also helps!!

Had the best day learning about women’s health and connecting with amazing people at Revitalize Miami. There has been a paradigm shift in women’s health and wellness. Emphasis is no longer on weight management through calorie or cardio, but more on bone health, muscle strength, mobility, functionality and how to optimize our resilience and spiritual growth as we face the challenges on our body and self-esteem imparted by all the profound changes occurring in #perimenopause and #menopause.

Even though my profession is skin health and wellbeing, what I learned from these experts (drvondawright, julietstarrett dr.lisamiller) resonated with me so much because skin reflects our internal health and mental health. Thank you mindbodygreen, colleenwachob and jasonwachob for hosting the event, connecting us and sharing the panel of experts with us!

#beforeandafter taken 2 weeks apart.
Super grateful that my patient gave me permission to share her #glowup with just #dermalfillers and #botox. So many people lately have this unfounded fear of filler and want to jump straight to surgery. The truth is that as with anything in life, it is all about moderation and how/when. For my gorgeous patient here, she wanted a treatment that kicks in fast , so she can look her best for a very special event. The time restraint is what led us to filler/ neuromodulator. We also agreed that it is important to look herself, not different.

We did:
	1.	Light botox to glabella, and #nefertiti #necklift to lift lower face
	2.	Filler to support mid cheeks, to brighten undereye area and give a more “lifted” appearance
	3.	Lip filler - the chef’s kiss imo because more hydrated lips just bring that youthfulness back… no duck lip here!
	4.	Marionette filler : again, the expectation is to soften the lines but not to smooth - too much lower face filler will distort the natural balance and make people look bottom heavy

So many patients are coming trying to get their melasma treated before summer starts, and it is totally ok to clear up as much as you can, but knowing that with summer heat/ sun it will come back. I have melasma myself, one of the biggest frustration is that it comes back all the time! This is why it is just easier to learn to live with melasma, rather than get upset about every trigger, every flare.

#subtle #demure beauty is in!

If you have to look hard for the difference in #beforeandafter in this set, then that means we accomplished what we intended. My patient is naturally stunning and genetically blessed! And it is very easy to distort her natural beauty if we are not careful. In her latest treatment (no, she barely gets any treatment), we restored her #temples and R medial cheek with #hyaluronicacid filler. The goal was to have improved upper/ lower face balance, correct early hollowing of framing of the face without overloading. Restoring the temple helps to give a subtle #browlift (always a bonus!) My favorite aspect of her results is that you can really appreciate how temple fullness softens her face when she smiles, and the tad of filler of R mid cheek was the chef’s kiss 💋
On a separate note, please know that temples is a higher risk zone of injection, we really need to know and respect anatomy, which varies greatly (the blood vessels never follow text book ), and we have to be even more careful when working with HA filler in this region.

Life lately… the first quarter of 2025 slipped away just like that, unlike the previous years, I didn’t make any big plan or have any big aspiration for this year. For the past few months, I’ve been focusing on the small stuff, the mundane details that make up every day life, evolving around family, work and my own wellbeing. And looking back at the past few months, I realize that I am more at peace and fulfilled when I am just doing my best for each day, rather than impatiently waiting for the next big thing. It has taken me so long to figure out that if we take on all the repetitive/ small steps (such as getting kids ready for school, taking care of stuff at work, going home to do it all over again as a mom) that we have take throughout the day as a #privilege, we can perhaps feel more at ease and be better at what we do. And hopefully in the long run, that leads to personal growth and creativity.

Things that make me #happy and #content in the past few months : seeing smiles on my patients when they feel good about themselves, doing challenging procedures without complications, working with people who make me feel supported and appreciated, getting the chance to share what I know with residents/ colleagues and learn from them.

And the things that keep me going: family time outside of the normal school/home hustle, knowing that I am doing my best to support my kids’ growth into #good people, having a partner that share my vision for life

Lastly #dailyroutines that I have been following in the past few months to stay #healthy and #well:
1. Eat before 7pm and go to bed as early as I can (ideally 10pm the latest)
2. Be consistent with my supplements
3. Work out 5-6 times a week but not stress about missing days if I’m on vacation
4. Eat more protein (lol this has been a struggle!!!!!!!!)
5. Started oil - pulling (swish a tablespoon of coconut oil every morning )
6. Simplified my #skincare routine to key #activeingredients
7. Gratitude meditation daily

2025 has been really tough for a lot of us. I am sharing this not to be tone deaf or show-off but in the hopes to inspire some of you to focus on taking the small steps ✨ 2025-04-07 01:59:10 Life lately… .. 475 +40% 30 -11%
As the heat starts back again in Miami, we should all be more diligent about sun protection. While there are so many good sunscreens out there, we derms tend to be pickier when it comes to sunscreen ingredients. Here are my top 4 sunscreens - they are all free of fragrance, offer at least SPF 30 + and broad spectrum protection. Some may be better suited for people looking for additional visible light protection (if you have #melasma) or #antioxidant benefit, and other may be better for outdoor sports or for #acneprone skin.

skinbetter SunBetter SPF Tone Smart SPF75 - offers visible light protection, great as daily routine for people with melasma or other photosensitive disorders
larocheposay Anthelios UV correct - lightweight, has niacinamide to help with pigmentation and adds additional protection against free radical damage
bluelizardsunscreen - mineral based - #reefsafe, and i have been using this on my kids ever since they were baby! And the bottle changes color when exposed to UV - a nice reminder to reapply
skinceuticals Clear Daily Soothing UV Defense SPF 50 - hydrating yet light for acne and #rosacea prone skin, and zinc based for people with sensitive skin.

Grateful for my patient’s willingness to share her #beforeandafter. When she came to me 4 months ago, she NEVER had any cosmetic procedure and was hesitant to do anything because she didn’t want to look done or different. She was concerned about her facial hollowing and looking “tired”. Like most of my patients in the #perimenopause stage, downward shifting of mid face fat pad is a main cause, especially in patients with thin face. After a thorough discussion of options, we started her on #sculptra journey. This Before/ After taken 4 months apart after just two session of sculptra, shows how collagen stimulating therapy can subtly restore mid face volume, improve overall #skinquality without distorting natural facial features.

Leave your question about Sculptra below, and I will do my best to answer them!

PSA from #cosmeticdermatologist: don’t hyper focus on “flaws” or imperfections that show up on that one photo. So many of my patients come in with a pic often with either bad lighting, bad angle, or weird makeup reflection, or simply iPhone camera distortion, and asking for treatment to address what they didn’t like about themselves in that one photo. I have also suffered emotional distress of a bad photo myself 😩. I get it. Nowadays our self esteem or validation is disproportionately affected by our digital assets - how we appear on social media or how we look in a selfie or photo. An important reminder is that we are always better looking in real life, 3-D, than in some random snaps. It is just like that sunset, that full moon, or mountain range, difficult to capture its full glory on a lens, but easy to appreciate the beauty with our eyes. For the same reason, I like to emphasize the importance of treating the whole face, and paying attention to dynamic facial movements, and how everything fits together when patients animate when we design cosmetic treatment journey. It is never about “fixing a line” or fill in that shadow. 2-D beauty is boring and fake. 3-D and real life unfiltered beauty is so much better.

My favorite lip filler result is when it looks untouched, natural, and enhancing instead of distracting from the rest of facial features.

My stunning patient had a traumatic injury to her lower cutaneous lip that left her with tighter smile and some volume loss and asymmetry. With 1ml of soft #hyaluronicacid #lipfiller and a touch of botox to muscles around the lips, we are able to achieve a super natural enhancement 💋

If you can’t see the difference, that’s the point!!!! And if you’re a seasoned aesthetic consumer, you may appreciate the subtle enhancement of the tubercles of her lower lip, improved projection without any ducky or shelving effect.

🚨🚨 Announcement!
Introducing PicoSure Pro laser at our Miami Beach location!!!! This laser is truly a great addition to our Cosmetic Division and Skin of Color Division, as it encompasses so many of our patients’ concerns : pigmentation, melasma, tattoo removal, scar treatment, especially those in people with more #melanated skin. The unique aspect of #picosurepro is that the emission of 755mm energy at picosecond breaks down pigment, rejuvenates the skin while sparing the skin from heat generated by traditional laser devices. Additionally tattoo removal with picosecond energy is better tolerated, less pain and more effective.

In this video clip, doctorarielderm, alyxrosenmd_derm, laikenalexa and I are testing the red/orange/yellow “sunset colors” removal with the 532nm handpiece of the machine, just for fun 😜. I can literally watch the eraser effect firing away all day!!!

Big thanks to my patient who bravely gave me consent sharing her complication from Sculptra injections. With all the latest social media fear on #dermalfillers, patients are jumping on the bandwagon of “regenerative aesthetic medicine”. Yes it is great to be curious about safe and effective therapies such as polylactic acid (aka Sculptra) or other biostimulation injections, it is NOT so great when providers are carelessly shooting people up with “not a filler” leading to complications.

We are in the process of treating my patient’s nodules. I would like to thank her for allowing me to share her adverse reaction so more people can be warned about the danger of not seeing qualified / experienced doctors and the danger of not knowing product limitations.

FYI - I personally LOVE #Sculptra - it is one of my top choices for collagen and facial rejuvenation. It is just not safe for certain areas of the face.
