Higher than you think!

Now depending on face shape (and sometimes even ethnicity), placement will vary a bit, so this is a guide not a rule. But across the board, it generally will further age an aging face if the blush placement is too low.

Now if you do it differently and love how it looks, that’s great! This is for those who feel like their makeup technique perhaps needs an update or a tweak.

Have you tried this?

A.k.a. “Barbie Botox”

Tension in the trapezius muscles (traps) can lead to headaches, neck pain, back pain, etc. and Botox is one tool that can be used to give a patient relief and comfort.

Injections here will also cause some slimming of the muscle, which is aesthetically desirable for certain people.

Keep your holes tight 🫶🏼

Other things that contribute to premature stretching of your piercing holes:
- Prolonged wearing of heavy earrings
- Sun damage (don’t forget SPF on your ears!)
- Having multiple lobe piercings

If your ear holes have reached the point where they are already stretched out, we can use filler (in mild cases) or a surgical lobe repair (in moderate to severe cases) to restore the natural architecture of the ear!

Consistency is king!

If you’re unable to tolerate your tretinoin more than a few times a week, adjust how you’re using it. Try layering it over your moisturizer (so you have a thin buffer) or even sandwich it between 2 layers of moisturizer!

If you’re still unable to use it more consistently, consider switching to non-prescription retinaldehyde or retinol. Some skin just doesn’t agree with tretinoin specifically, but there are still amazing rejuvenating benefits to be had with other retinoid forms!

As a dermatologist (and water lover 🌊), I’ve seen what UV, saltwater, and chlorine can do to hair: dryness, breakage, dullness.

These are the 3 steps I never skip before or after a swim (and yes, they actually make a difference).

Hair loss has no chill.

That’s why early diagnosis and treatment of hair loss matters, especially when it comes to androgenetic alopecia (AGA), also known as male or female pattern hair loss.

AGA is the most common type of hair loss, and it’s progressive, meaning it tends to get worse over time without treatment. It’s caused by a combination of genetics and hormone sensitivity (specifically to DHT), which leads to gradual miniaturization of the hair follicle. Over time, thick, pigmented hairs are replaced with finer, shorter hairs until the follicle stops producing hair altogether.

The tricky part? It can creep up on you. Because the process is slow and subtle, people often don’t notice it until significant hair volume has been lost.

The good news: there are proven treatment options that can help preserve the hair you have and, in some cases, regrow what you’ve lost, but they work best when started early.

I explain this to my patients every day, and it’s what more people deserve to know about their hair.

if you want hair loss guidance and tips, make sure you’re following! I also have many videos on hair loss treatments on my YouTube channel, as well as my “Hair” highlight here on IG.

I say this as a cosmetic dermatologist who treats thousands of patients a year.

There are so many amazing things we can do in dermatology: improve fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin tone, remove unwanted spots, balance facial proportions, etc.

BUT there is no tightening procedure or device within the non-invasive or minimally invasive derm world that comes anywhere close to a facelift when it comes to lifting loose or saggy skin around the brows and eyelids, the jowls, or the neck.

If skin sagging is your main concern, your dermatologist (or other cosmetic practitioner) should 100% be talking to you about surgery and setting appropriate and realistic expectations about what non-invasive tightening procedures can really offer.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Fastest blowout of my life. When I need my hair to look sleek quickly, this is the only tool I’ve been reaching for.

Not sponsored, just a big fan. I love the huge, oval blow-dry brush on this tool (you can grip a ton of hair at once, which makes it super efficient, especially if you have longer or thicker hair). And there are 3 heat settings and fan speeds to customize for your hair type and goals.

Ever notice crusts around your kid’s nose, mouth, or other parts of their body? It might be impetigo, a highly contagious skin infection often seen in little ones.

🦠 Cause:
Usually caused by Staph or Strep bacteria. It often shows up after a scrape, bug bite, or even around eczema patches.

✋ Spread:
Super easy to spread through touch, towels, toys, or scratching, which is why it often spreads fast in schools and daycares.

💊 Treatment:
Milder cases: topical antibiotics like mupirocin
More widespread: oral antibiotics may be needed
Keep the area clean and covered when possible

🧼 Prevention tips:
Wash hands frequently
Clip fingernails to prevent scratching
Don’t share towels, cups, or pillows

Keep kids home until no longer contagious (usually 24 hrs after starting antibiotics)

1. You don’t need more products. You need a plan. From someone who actually understands skin.

2. If your skin is flaky, stop exfoliating and start moisturizing like it’s your job.

3. If don’t know what a product is doing in your routine, take it out. Skincare should be intentional.

4. Stop switching products every week. Consistency equals results.

4. “Clean” doesn’t mean better. It means someone decided to make you scared of effective ingredients.

5. You cannot out-serum poor sleep, stress, alcohol, and no SPF.

6. Your skin is not “sensitive” — it’s sensitized. Stop exfoliating it to the brink of a total meltdown.

7. NO ONE has perfect skin. Stop holding yourself to impossible standards.

As a dermatologist, my goal is to help people reach their full skin potential through education and encouragement.

If you’re on a skincare journey, I think you’ll like it here. 💕

Just saying…this is where you want to play the long game.

I know it’s tempting to expect overnight results from your skincare, but retinoids (like retinol, retinaldehyde, and prescription tretinoin) really do take several months to work.

When do retinoids start working?
You might notice smoother skin in 4–6 weeks, but deeper improvements like fewer breakouts, softened lines, and brighter tone usually take 3–6 months. Think marathon, not sprint.

Why it’s worth it long-term:
▪️ Boosts collagen
▪️ Improves skin texture & tone
▪️ Reduces acne and clogged pores
▪️ Helps fade hyperpigmentation
▪️ Delays signs of skin aging

Consistency is everything.
Retinoids work best when they’re part of a sustainable routine. Start slow (1-3 nights a week), buffer with moisturizer, and stay the course. Even gentle retinoids can be powerful over time when used consistently.

Some of my favorite beginner retinoids:
shanidarden Retinol Reform Serum
haruharuwonder_official Black Rice Night Knight Retinol
stratiaskin Night Shift Retinol Cream

Tired of the redness from rosacea? I’ve been there.

Let’s talk Vbeam laser, and please ask any questions you have!

What is Vbeam?
It’s a gentle laser that helps reduce redness, visible blood vessels, and flushing caused by rosacea. It targets the tiny blood vessels under your skin, and your body naturally clears them away, leading to calmer, more even-toned skin.

How does it feel?
I think it feels like a wet rubber band snap. The wet feeling comes from a built-in cooling spray that protects the skin from overheating and makes the treatment more comfortable. Treatments are also quick! Usually 5-15 minutes.

What’s the downtime like?
It depends on your skin. Some people have no downtime, but others may experience redness, swelling, or even bruising that lasts several days. We always guide you through what to expect based on your skin and treatment settings.

What are the benefits?
✔️ Calms redness and flushing
✔️ Fades visible blood vessels
✔️ Improves skin tone
✔️ Also great for red acne scars, red surgical scars, angiomas, and red birthmarks

How many sessions do I need?
Most people see great results after 3–5 treatments spaced a month apart. Results build gradually and can last, especially with good skincare and maintenance.

Is it covered by insurance?
No, it’s considered cosmetic, even though the benefits for rosacea can be significant.

My personal experience:
I’ve dealt with rosacea myself. Years of sun exposure in my childhood left me with broken blood vessels that made my flushing worse. During my dermatology residency, I finally had the chance to get my first series of Vbeam treatments and it completely changed my skin. My redness improved dramatically, and now I do at least one maintenance session a year. It was 100% worth it.

If you’re struggling with persistent redness, often skincare alone will not be enough. Sometimes you need to bring a machine into the conversation. 💕

Brow redemption incoming!

Have you seen results with minoxidil?
What questions do you have?

If your brow hair is sparse enough that a spoolie won’t have enough hair to comb through, I recommend using a q-tip or fine makeup brush instead.

As I always mention when posting about this med, it’s safe for humans but toxic (even in small amounts) to cats and dogs. If you cannot guarantee complete exposure avoidance, let’s find you an alternative!

Also, I recommend discussing use of all OTC drugs with your doctor so you have full understanding of the side effect profile and can determine whether or not this is the right intervention for you.
