Birthday at the vet 😅 My dear Dolly turns 7 today 💕🥰 I’m so grateful for every single day with this joyful and clever little poodle. A bit over a year ago, Dolly was diagnosed with a mucocele, and her gallbladder had to be removed. She was also diagnosed via endoscopy with chronic CIE (chronic inflammatory enteropathy), which we’re managing with treatment. Today we were back at the vet again — her liver values are elevated, so her medication needs adjusting. She’s currently on Budesonide (a type of corticosteroid), Ursachol, and liver support supplements (like Epatopasta). For food, she eats Purina Pro Plan Hypoallergenic. Dolly regularly goea for ultrasounds and blood tests, as we’re also monitoring for potential onset of Cushing’s disease. A chronically ill dog isn’t sick all the time, but the worry is always there. I hope I get to keep Dolly happy and as healthy as possible for a long time ❤️ We take things one day at a time, following her energy levels — she can’t join in on everything anymore, and we try to avoid unnecessary stress. Quick health update on Dolly 🤓 She had gallbladder surgery last July due to a mucocele. Recovery went really well, and the surgery made a huge difference in her quality of life - it’s only later I realized how much pain she must have had 😢 She’s been stable on Purina Pro Plan Hypoallergenic food (strict diet—nothing else), plus Gaspongil and Budesonide, which is often used here in Italy for CIE patients. In the fall she was close to normal maybe more tired than usual but recently she became more reactive and started showing signs of heartburn. Even Antepsin didn’t help this time, so we did a check-up. Her liver values were a bit high (over 400), so her vet added Ursachol and Epato pasta to support liver function. She’s been feeling better since, and we’ll soon go to new ultrasound and blood tests 🩸🤞🏻 CIE (chronic inflammatory enteropathy) is unpredictable—stress, weather, and other factors can affect it a lot. I’m still learning how to manage it, but overall, she’s doing well and still her playful self. I didn’t know that there are DNA tests for dogs too! 😳 I heard about MyDogDna and ordered a test for Dolly. The results are in the link ik bio 👌🏻 It’s so interesting to see what you can know from a dog’s genetics 🤓 These genetic tests definitely provide useful information for anyone interested in a dog’s health, genetics, and breeding! ☺️👌🏻 It was really fascinating to read through the results even as a “non-professional person) 😅 Ordering and taking the test was easy, and the results came in about a month 😊 Are there others here who have done a DNA test for their dog? Here’s an update on Dolly from Milan! 🇮🇹 At the end of last year, Dolly was diagnosed with a mucocele, and in addition, she has chronic inflammatory enteropatia (CIE), which has caused a lot of stomach issues, pain, and worry 😢 Seven weeks ago, Dolly had her gallbladder removed via laparoscopy, and luckily that decision was made because the gallbladder was severely inflamed, full of sludge and mucus, and even a few stones were found 😓 Now Dolly is in a completely different state—she’s pain-free and back to her happy self! 🥹🥰 Her condition has gradually returned to normal, and switching her diet to Purina ProPlan’s HA food has worked really well, with her weight returning to normal. Although Dolly may still need medication for intestinal inflammation (cortisone / budesonide) in the future, the removal of her gallbladder has been a truly transformative step in her recovery! Finally, Dolly is feeling well, and it’s a huge relief after such a painful year 🥹❤️ Greetings to everyone from Milan! P.S. Here’s a little update on Dolly from Milan ☺️🇮🇹 Last fall, Dolly began experiencing vague stomach issues, vomiting, and obvious signs of pain ❤️‍🩹 We consulted several veterinarians. Finally, we found a good animal hospital hvet_sanfrancesco_milano with several specialists in internal medicine. An endoscopy was performed and a biopsy was taken, which revealed the cause to be CIE, or chronic inflammatory bowel disease in other terms (IBD). Additionally, an ultrasound showed changes in her gallbladder, diagnosing Dolly with mucocele 😢 In the fall, her diet was changed and we started using Ursachol medication and medication for the inflammation. Throughout the spring, we’ve been using Ursachol and making homemade food according to a nutritionist’s recipes (from very low-fat ingredients, such as sweet potatoes, cod, turkey, rabbit - plus, of course, oils, vitamins, minerals, probiotics consulted by the amazing dr.barbaratonini ). Dolly had a lot of pain in the spring time and we often had to use Cerenia for nausea and Buscopan injections for pain (like Litalgin). Despite all the treatment, the gallbladder didn’t improve, and in fact, the condition worsened at times quite dramatically (the pancreas got also inflamed that the surgeon didn’t dare to operate 😟). We finally decided to proceed with the gallbladder removal surgery now that Dolly was in relatively stable condition. The surgery was performed laparoscopically last Friday, and Dolly is doing really well now! 😍 (Dolly weights 3 kg, so fortunately it was possible to perform the surgery laparoscopically).
