New on the block in Barrio Salamanca 👀☕️

Popped into Fónico fonicobites on Juan Bravo for a quick cafecito and tosta catch-up — but left with a vanilla concha in hand and it was a dream. Fluffy, sweet, and totally chef’s kiss. 

This spot is still new-ish, but already giving major stylish café vibes — think retro interiors, good coffee, and even better potential for a full comida sit-down.

Bonus? The playlist was vibing. They had Love Train playing and I’m still lowkey dancing 💃🏽🪩

Dinner at Ivy Asia, Guildford did not disappoint! Stunning interiors, vibey ambiance, and standout dishes across the board!

Starters lineup:
Edamame – always a classic.

King Oyster & Shiitake Gyoza – shocker of the night… I’m not a mushroom lover but this one won me over! Yuzu dressing, masago arare & pink peppercorn = flavor bomb.

Pork & Kimchi Gyoza – my least fave of the starters.

Ebi Prawn Tempura Nahm Jim – crispy perfection, that chilli-lime-ginger sauce hit just right.

Gochujang Glazed Chicken – glaze was on point and paired so well with the kaffir lime mayo & pickled cucumber. Highly recommend.

Mains we shared:

Tiger Prawn Rendang – rich, spicy, aromatic… absolutely delish. 

Honey & Sesame Chicken – sweet, sticky, balanced by ginger and chilli. 

Black Cod Miso – 48-hour miso glaze? Melt-in-your-mouth levels of good. 

Char Siu Barbecue Glazed Pork Belly – smokey, tender, with just the right kick from the ichimi spice. 

Honestly, every main hit. Beautiful flavors, great execution. Would definitely go back!

Bonus tip: don’t be shocked if you wander into the men’s bathroom—yes, there’s a full-on samurai waiting for you.

Can’t believe our sweet Nico is already ONE! 💙

What a night at Olea for Second Sunday Supper Club ✨

Walking in felt like stepping into a dream — delicate speakinplants flower arrangements, soft dim lighting, and the warm strum of live acoustic music setting the perfect vibe cdg__________

✨ Alta Cuchara 2025: A Culinary Playground in Madrid 🍽️

With Thursday off for San Isidro, we took full advantage of the long weekend and made our way to Alta Cuchara altacuchara —Madrid’s newest foodie hotspot at the gorgeous Casa de Mónico. Twelve standout restaurants, one curated dish each, all served from charming food trucks in a garden-party setting? Count me in. 😍

Top bites? Hard to choose, but these stole the show:
🍖 Torreznos from Caleña calena.restaurante – crispy, golden magic from the only Ávila-based spot at the festival. 
🐔 Bao de Ají de Gallina from Insurgente insurgente.cocina – so good, I had it twice. Creamy, spicy, and wrapped in pillowy goodness.
🐟 Ceviche by Jhosef Arias chefjhosefarias – fresh and zingy, made even better with a side of pisco sour (a must).
🐷 Cochinillo Bao with Korean BBQ Relish rugerestaurante – savory, juicy, unforgettable.

🍷 The wine tasting by Sotero Pintado vinosoteropintado was a treat. His vineyards in Sierra de Gredos focus on high-altitude, low-intervention wines—elegant, expressive, and totally sip-worthy.

Huge thanks to barbygant and kinojerez for pulling off such a flavorful, fun event. Already dreaming of next year. 🎉

Dispatch - Tucked away in Chamberí, Dispatch is redefining fast-casual dining with serious chef credentials.

Founded by Nicolás Bejarano (who trained under legends like Ferran Adrià and Arzak) and Magdalena Iribarren, Dispatch focuses on doing a few things exceptionally well.

98% of everything is made in-house — except for the bread, delivered fresh each morning. 

The pastrami was the star of the show — juicy, smoky, and unforgettable. 🌟 The fried chicken had great flavor, though the coating didn’t hold up. The fries, seasoned like ranch chips, offered a fun twist. 🍟

With a tight menu, we tried both desserts — and surprisingly, the silky flan beat out the chocolate mousse! 🍮🍫

Average price per person: €20- €30— a solid value for this level of quality.

A must-visit if you’re serious about sandwiches and flavor.

In the heart of Barrio Salamanca is an airy, modern spot serving up Mediterranean eats with a Latin twist. Concept is curated by Italian chef Marco Carboni paying homage to the artisanal product from small producers. Knowing that Carboni had worked alongside classics like Dan Barber chefdanbarber in USA, Gordon Ramsay gordongram in the UK and Massimo Bottura massimobottura in Italy made me all the more excited to try the place.

An authentic wooden oven allows for an array of breads ranging from sourdough to flat bread to Neapolitan style pizza. 

Shared plates are the way to begin the meal – many focusing on vegetables as the hero instead of the garnish, noticeable in the beet hummus and the burnt cauliflower, a table favorite.

For mains we had:

🥬 Short Rib Lettuce Tacos (very tender, melted in your mouth)

🍝 Pappardelle with Beef Ragu (portion is large, can definitely share)

🍴Norwegian Salmon with Mint & Fennel Salad

Overall, the restaurant from concept to design to food can be described as simple yet tasteful. Will definitely be back to try more things, especially the dessert list which we only had room for tiramisu this time around.

Walking into Cheesecake Avenue cheesecakeavenue.es got me in a New York State of mind. You’ll find pictures of the Empire State Building, World Trade Center and more. The owners Francisco Urdaneta and María Felce have made it their goal to create a space dedicated exclusively to the New York style cheesecake in Madrid.

They keep you hooked to the theme through the names of their cheesecakes which evoke NY city life like New York New York, Pistachio of Liberty and the Big Carrot.

Now for the cheesecake themselves, I really liked that they are circular allowing you to get the flavor all at once. Currently there are over 9 flavors that you can get in individual portion or full size cake.  We tried the Pistachio of Liberty and I Love Dulce de Leche Cheesecakes.

For my Madrid moms out there, there are 2 locations. Their new location is right by a playground in Plaza de Olavide. It is the perfect spot to split a sweet before or after with the family over coffee or tea! Francisco recommended my matcha latte with oat milk as the matcha had a hint of vanilla in it and it is certainly something I will repeat again with my next flavor of cheesecake!

Walking in, the glittering gold oval bar, hanging with lush foliage, is the centerpiece of the room. The warm colors of green, orange and red invite you in to a cozy setting.
 
Dani’s menu is extensive, adapted to all tastes, and has been personally designed by the chef, in which iconic dishes “The Best of Dani” can be found alongside other elaborations created specifically for this restaurant. The menu focuses on bringing to life seasonal product.
 
🦐 2014 | Prawns “Robuchon Style” – Crispy prawns wrapped in a filo dough that with each bite you get a taste of basil and dip in pesto. A nice start to the meal.

I would describe my experience at ravioxo as one where what you see is not what you taste and it is in the best way. Dabiz Muñoz dabizdiverxo dreamt this restaurant focusing the menu on ‘dumplings’ but integrated doughs and pastas into the creative mix. The menu is a la carte and there are 16 plates to choose from.
 
Muñoz says that RavioXO is the “luxury of eating time”. Each dish is thoughtfully crafted over hours between the dough, the sauces and the fillings. The favorites of the night were the Huevos Fritos Con Morcilla, the Caserío Vasco and the Cocido Hong Kong Madriz. The Huevos Fritos transported you to taste the actual dish in format of Dim Sum, the morcilla in form of dumpling and a yolk that explodes in your mouth with a crunchy finish. The Caserío Vasco was the most liked amongst all, any my personal favorite was the Cocido Hong Kong Madriz.

Another day, another coffee shop. 

I recently stopped in yasemintuncel.madrid. I loved that the grind and roast their own coffee in house. It really came through in their coffee. The name comes from the couple who opened the cafe, Yasemin and Tuncel Toprak. 

Their menu is a combination of Swedish and Turkish influences. The majority of the salty dishes are Turkish while the sweet are Swedish. We enjoyed an apple and almond cake !

Growing up I never really ate Peruvian food as my father, although Peruvian, traveled quite often for work. My love for Peruvian food arose when we went to Machu Picchu the year I graduated college. Now, I love trying different restaurants to be transported back to those days.

Recently, I was in the mood for lomo saltado and searched for somewhere to fix that craving. I stopped in to ponja_nikkei , a restaurant specializing in Nikkei, the fusion of Peruvian and Japanese food. I naturally ordered that but tried a few other things to make the experience complete. I must say my favorite bite was the Perúcho de Atún Almadraba y Ají Amarillo. This nigiri was simply good product with a slight kick to end the bite. I definitely will be back for some more.

Curcumin, the active component in turmeric has been used for its strong antioxidant properties.

* 3/4 teaspoon of ground turmeric
* 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
* 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
* 1 cup almond milk

Drain & pat dry artichoke hearts.
If artichokes are not cut in quarters, slice into quarters.
