We’ve been slowly but surely been checking out all the food vendors that swing through at staygolden_stpete, and this time we caught up with tower10burger.

Truthfully, the older I get, the less inclined I am to pound a big heavy burger, so burgers aren’t a big part of my diet anymore, but the smashburgers from Tower 10 are something different.

Their burgers are pressed super thin and extra crispy, then they’re topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and special Tower 10 sauce. The result almost feels somewhere between a BLT and a burger, which worked well for me, and it thankfully didn’t feel like a greasebomb sitting in my stomach afterward.

And, the loaded fries came smothered with grilled onions, melted cheese and Tower 10 sauce, and really made for a great indulgent side.

I also got a chance to try Golden Isles’ collaborative draft with inbetweendays.co, In Between Days, which is a Japanese Rice Lager, which is light, crisp, and one I could sip all afternoon. Nicely done.

Golden Isles has done an excellent job of curating a lineup of really great food vendors every day of the week. It’s a little tough for me to swing through midweek, but I’m going to make an effort to hit up some of the weekday offerings when I can.

And, Tower 10 hits up several breweries on both sides of the bay, so make sure to give them to follow to see when they’ll be in your neck of the woods!

I tend to steer clear of Water Street unless I’m going to a concert down there, so I’m usually the last person to feature one of the restaurants over that way. Last time we went was for Madonna, which was a week or two before ashtampa opened, but for Nine Inch Nails last night, we finally got an opportunity to check it out.

We saw they have a happy hour menu if you sit at the bar, and we figured we would start there, but we’d also dip our toes into the regular menu with a few items there.

First things first, we’re middle-aged and late nights are rare for us, so we did a round of Espresso Martinis, which were needed to get us through the night ahead, and I enjoyed theirs.

Then, we ordered a round of the Oysters, Cacio e Pepe Arancini, and the Chicken Liver Mousse. Really enjoyed all three. The lemongrass cucumber mignonette was a really bright and flavorful accompaniment. The arancini were a great, cheesy bar snack. But, I think the Chicken Liver Mousse was my favorite bite of the night. There’s a thin layer of orange marmalade between the mousse and the toast that gave it a really bright note, and the pickled ramps gave it that little burst of contrasting flavor to keep it from veering too far on the sweet side.

I spied a cocktail on the regular menu that really caught my attention, the Garden Collins, which I got for round two, and I’m really glad I did. It had gin as the base liquor, with, aquavit carrot, dill, black pepper, and honey. It was refreshing and not too sweet.

For round 2 of the food, we got the Fried Rabbit, the Red Foccacia Pizza and the White Focaccia Pizza. While I liked the flavors of the rabbit well enough, it was the priciest item and a rather small portion, so we’d probably skip this one next time. Of the two pizzas, we actually preferred the white pizza, which surprised me, as I would rarely go that route.

Since we had seats in a loft with a bar and a spread of food, we cut it off there rather than diving further into the menu on this trip.

After being fairly unimpressed with the dining options in that area so far, I’m happy that we had a good experience at Ash, and it’s a place I would go back to for the next show. 2025-09-11 20:50:09 I tend .. 46 -10% 2 -77%
For the past few months, while driving from the gym to the office in the morning, I’ve noticed that they were renovating the old Taco Bell on Dale Mabry by Raymond James Stadium, and now bodatampa is open for business.

I finally got a chance to swing in today, and I left quite happy! They did a nice job with the renovation, and I decided to get a little variety of options for my first visit.

The Torta de Carnitas looked like it might a good one to start with. It was served on telera bread with a healthy portion of carnitas, avocado, lettuce, tomato, escabeche vegetables, black beans and mayo, and it came with a side of coconut rice.

The sandwich itself was very well seasoned, and the escabeche vegetables gave it a nice bite flavor wise as well as texturally. When they first put the plate down, I thought side was black beans and rice, but when I looked closer, those were raisins served on the coconut rice. I thought that was a bit odd at first, but it actually works!

I was actually quite pleased with the tacos. They offer ten different varieties, and they have a 2- and 3-Taco combo ($8 and $12 respectively), so I went with the Pick 2 deal and got Chicharron and Camarones. I love that these came on beet taco shells (the photographer in me loves a good contrast) and I was quite impressed with the amount of filling in each, the freshness of the veggies and the quality of the protein.

(Beyond those two, they have Carne Asada, Carnitas, Pollo, Chorizo, Pastor, Vegetales and Vegetales Plantain. They also have Birria Borracha, which have a minimum order of two and aren’t eligible for the combo).

Also, they offer horchata, which I almost always get when I can find it. (They do offer beer and wine).

I was very pleasantly surprised with my first visit, and this will be a great place to stop in when I’m looking for a casual bite when I’m in the area.

It was too nice of a day to stay inside this Labor Day, so we packed up the dogs and headed over to staygolden_stpete and caught the francaspizzacatering pop-up.

We hit one of their pop ups a few months back, and I found their pizza to be exactly the way I like it, and they were also offering a Mortadella Focaccia Sandwich on Monday that looked absolutely incredible. I’ve also heard such good things about their Tahini Hummus, so I wanted to give them both a try.

I got their Detroit-Inspired Square Pizza, which was another special they were running, and my partner got the Americano. While they do offer some more creative pizzas, sometimes the classic tomato sauce, cheese, basil and pepperoni is king. They know what they’re doing with the dough, and the ingredients are always super fresh.

We also split the Mortadella Focaccia Sandwich, which came topped with pistachio pesto and mozzarella and served with homemade giardiniera, which I loved! The flavors were great all the way around and I loved the addition of fennel in their giardiniera.

Didn’t want to overorder, so I waited a bit and placed an order of the Tahini Hummus, but it was so good! I frequently snack on hummus at home, but I loved theirs with the freshly baked sourdough pita bread, fresh basil, tart pickled onions, harissa, evoo, and a sprinkle of za’atar.

The patio at Golden Isles is always a great place to hang out. I’ve always enjoyed my beers there (I was feeling the dunkel they had on draft this time), and they always have great food pop ups there. Make sure to follow them to find out the week’s food truck lineup. Everyone I’ve tried has been great, and there’s quite a few ai need to try. Franca’s usually tends to be there on Friday nights, and who doesn’t want great pizza and cold beers when the work week is done? Swing on through Golden Isles on Friday night, or follow their page to see where they’ll be this weekend!

Summer is coming to a close, so I wanted to take a moment to recap some of the most memorable things I tried for the first time over the past few months.

lara.tampa gave me a number of truly memorable bites, but the Chicken Liver Pate and Picadillo Chartar are going to be must orders on all future visits.

The Shawarma Bowl at goodintentions_fl was insanely good, and those flavors were outstanding. If you’re hesitant about vegan, let this convert you.

smallbarstp is a recent addition to our repertoire, and while the menu changes frequently, if they’re making things on par with the Nihari Curry Meatballs, I’m down to try anything they’re cooking up.

The Salmon at thelittlelambgastropub is the best salmon I’ve had in years.

The Beef Tartare at helmtampabay was great, and the smoked oyster aioli took it over the top.

tiki_tims_pub_stpete now has two locations with tiki_tims_tu_pub_and_grill , and don’t sleep on it. Best dive bar food around. Beyond the massive bloody mary options, they’re doing crab right. The Hot Blue Crab Dip is insanely good, and the pretzel bites it comes with are fantastic on their own. Also, some of the best crab cakes I’ve found.

Discovered francaspizzacatering this summer at staygolden_stpete and they’re doing my favorite pizza anywhere. I’m not a big pizza guy, but theirs is the exception.

The Cuban Dip at pulpokitchenstpete offers a great spin on Tampa’s favorite sandwich.

I probably would have never ordered the Okra Saute at mangalturkishgrilltampa if a stablemate hadn’t ordered it, but I got it on my next visit and loved it.

And lastly, gotta thank Trish at trinispice813 for redeeming shark as an ingredient and showing me how it can be done correctly! (And it should be Bake & Shark, sorry about the goof in the graphic!) 2025-09-01 20:01:34 S.. 49 -4% 4 -53%
For years, helmtampabay has been my absolute favorite spot on the Pinellas County beaches. It was always the spot I would go to after a day at the beach, but historically, they’ve only been open for lunch and brunch. But, they’re now open for dinner service, and it was outstanding.

We got together with our besties last night to check it out, and dinner at The Helm absolutely impressed.

We started off with a round of appetizers. My partner got the Dirty Shrimp - think dirty martini-inspired shrimp cocktail, I got the Beef Tartare, which was one of the best I’ve had in the area with charred leek gremolata and smoked oyster aioli adding some incredible flavor. And, our friends got the Oysters & Marrow, which let you add a scoop of marrow on top of the baked oysters to amp up the flavor. These went perfectly with our cocktails, with the fellas all getting their dirty martini, and the lady at the table had the best cosmo she’s had in a Tampa Bay restaurant.

For our mains, we were all wrestling between a couple choices, but my partner landed on the Beef Tenderloin, I chose the Lamb Ribs, and our friends shared a Helm Salad and the night’s special of Black Grouper with Citrus Marinated Lump Crab, with Asparagus, and a Fingerling Potato and Mushroom Medley Hash.

All of us were quite happy with what we ordered, and we all shared a bite of our plates, and I love theirs too.

They had three options for dessert, and we decided to share one of everything. My partner got the Cobbler, which was a family recipe using blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries.

I got the Sour Orange Pie, which was similar to a Key Lime Pie, but with Blood Oranges and an animal cracker crust.

Our friends got the Banana Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce, and absolutely loved it.

The Helm, to me, is an absolute gem of a place and I wish there more places of this quality on our beaches. Hurricane Helene devastated them and forced them to close for about six months, so please consider them as an option when planning a night out or for a great lunch after a day at the beach. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Earlier this year, a group of us started a monthly get-together with a different foodie organizing a meal at one of their favorite spots. It’s been a great way to try some new places, and this month, theadlerdiaries organized the meal at trinispice813.

This was my first time trying Trinidadian food, which uses Caribbean ingredients, but with heavy Indian influence. Trish, the owner came out to speak with us and explain the various dishes. She was such a gracious host.

We started with Pholourie, which was sort of like a chickpea hush puppy, and it was served with two chutneys: one was tamarind, and I think the other might have been mango? We also tried mixing it up with a bit of the hot sauce on the table, which had a nice lingering kick. These were a nice start.

Trish is getting ready to launch a new Breakfast Platter, and wanted us to try it. It came with Curry Chicken, Channa and Potato, Spinach, Pumpkin and Roti. It was a good introduction to the menu with a nice variety of options. The Curry Chicken and the Channa with Potatoes were my favorites.

We also got to try Doubles, which is a signature dish. It’s a street food with a roti on top and bottom with a layer of Channa in between. You use the top layer to scoop up the Channa (similar to how one would use injera in Ethiopian food), and then next you use the bottom layer to eat the rest. Enjoyed this quite a bit, and I can see why it’s such a popular street food.

Next, we tried the Bake & Shark, which was my favorite bite of the day. Shark can taste strongly of ammonia if not done properly, but this was perfect. It was served with some pineapple slaw in between pieces of roti, and I really enjoyed this.

We also tried a drink called sorrel (not picture), which was made using a lot of mulling spices you might associate with the holidays, and it was a nice surprise.

I ended up grabbing an order of Curry Duck and Curry Goat to go, which my partner and I split for dinner tonight. Both of them were quite good, but word of warning on the duck… there were quite a few small bones.

Always happy to explore a new cuisine, happy I finally got to visit, and I’m already looking forward to next month’s dinner. 2025-08-26 04:42:25 Earlier this .. 47 -8% 9 +5%
I wanted to shake things up a bit tonight. When life gets hectic - and it has been as of late - we tend to lean on the old familiar spots. But tonight, I wanted something different, and smallbarstp has been on my list for quite awhile.

The menu varies frequently, but I saw that electricmikeorchestra posted the Crispy Ribeye Pie on his stories, and I knew that’s what this rainy day needed. He’s a talented chef that I’ve been following since his days at Wild Child, and while I haven’t had the time to check out his tacowizard69 popups, this is one I was determined to do.

My partner and I split almost every dish on the menu, but we each got our own slice of Crispy Ribeye Pie, and the whole menu was pretty incredible.

The Caesar Salad came out first, and we quite enjoyed it. We’re both pretty big salad guys, and this scratched the itch. We both appreciated the anchovy filets on top. It may be a controversial ingredient to some, but we love them.

The Parker House Rolls came out next. The rolls themselves are soft, pillowy and comforting, and the smoked olive and nduja butter took it over the top. Don’t skip these!

Next were the Nihari Curry Meatballs, and we absolutely loved these. These will likely go down as some of the best things I eat all year. So very tender and moist, and the flavor was amazing.

We really enjoyed the Crispy Ribeye Pie. And honestly, the longer it soaked in that Bone Marrow Bordelaise, the better it got. You’ll definitely want to eat up the scraps on this plate when you’re done. I wish we had ordered more rolls to soak up the sauce from this dish.

We ended the meal by splitting the Banana Bread Pudding, which came with peanut butter ice cream and coconut whipped cream. And it was the perfect portion to split.

The menu changes often, but based on this first experience, we’re absolutely interested in whatever else is being served. Give both smallbarstp and electricmikeorchestra a follow to see what’s going on, but word of warning - it’s called Small Bar for a reason. There are six bar stools and four two-top tables and its walk-in service. Get here early for the best chance to snag a seat. We brought a couple of friends to thetidesmarket last night, which is another place I go to far more often than I post about. And, arriving at 5:30 on a Friday night to a 20 minute wait actually made me smile a bit.

That may seem like an odd thing to say, but my first visit was in November 2021, and back when it first opened, it was almost closer to a farmer’s market, with a couple of tables set up selling local produce, and they had some grab and go salads (their Salmon Cobb was my very first order). But, even on that first visit, the quality of the food and attention to detail were apparent. In time, they added a few tables and a walk up counter to order, then eventually evolving into a full service restaurant that’s routinely packed and has attracted Michelin attention. It’s really been something to watch evolve, and I’m so happy to see Jon and Mary Kate’s success.

Last night, we ordered some of our favorites: $1 Happy Hour Oysters, Salmon Risotto and Grouper Romesco along with both of last night’s dessert specials: Maple Pecan Bread Pudding and Banana Pudding. Everything was fantastic, and a great reminder of why they’ve taken off the way they have. Our friends ordered a Fried Oyster Basket, a Salmon Risotto, and shared the bread pudding and left impressed.

Since I’ve been there so many times over the years, I also wanted to take the opportunity to post a selection of my favorite dishes to order there. There’s something to satisfy any mood and hunger level, and even if you’re going out with someone who isn’t a seafood fan, they’ve got a number of great options. It’s a top-tier destination for lunch, brunch or dinner. (Which reminds me… I need to get back for more brunches!)

I also thought it would be fun to include a few videos at the end from 2021-2022 to remember how far they’ve come, and I’m really eager to see where they go from here. 2025-08-23 19:25:29 .. 65 +27% 14 +64%
I think there’s a lot of value in having a good vegan restaurant up your sleeve. While most of my close local friends are omnivores, I have several out of town friends who are vegan or vegetarians. I also have an out of town friend with a severe dairy allergy, whose throat will close up if he ingests something that came into contact with dairy.

In my attempts to accommodate food restrictions, I’ve eaten at some horrendous vegan spots, so it was important to me to find a few places I actually like. And, when we found goodintentions_fl, not only did it become our go-to spot for those instances, but it also became a spot that we go regularly on our own.

It’s consistently good and they have some of my favorite cocktails around.

Tonight, we took one of our dinner club groups there, and I think everyone walked away impressed. I didn’t get a snap of everything, because I try to be discreet and not be a disruption with the photos. But, here is a good sampling of the dishes we ordered from their recently revamped menu.

Most of the appetizers are dishes we’ve ordered and enjoyed before (brussels sprouts, whipped ricotta, crab fries), but it was nice to be reminded how good their crab cakes were, and the ceviche was a pleasant surprise.

On the entree front, I ordered the new Shawarma Bowl and loved it. They took my old regular order (the bun cha) off the menu, but the shawarma bowl was more than a worthy replacement, and several at the table said they’d order this next time. The Seasonal Gnocchi is always a good bet, and the current incarnation with corn and seitan bacon earned raves around the table, and the Skyway Melt always satisfies a patty melt craving.

They had all new desserts tonight and all three were great. The Guava Lime Cheesecake (not pictured) was light and refreshing, the S‘mores Pot de Crème would satisfy any chocolate lover, and I really enjoyed the Blueberry Streussel Cake. Not overly sweet, and it stood up to the blueberry preserves on top.

While we didn’t have any vegans with us tonight, I think quite a few people were impressed and would certainly return on their own.

If you’re a Tampa Bay Area resident, your feed’s likely getting flooded with #813day posts today, but I want to do mine a little differently.

I feel like social media is oversaturated with a lot of the same restaurants in the same areas… Water Street, South Tampa, Hyde Park, etc. And, while I have some places I enjoy over there, I think the Tampa food scene gets a hell of a lot more interesting if you’re willing to hop in your car and drive a few miles away from all that, and expand your search a little.

So, in an effort to get people to step outside of their comfort zones and try something new, I wanted to shine a light on some great spots I don’t see plastered all over Instagram on a daily basis. Hopefully, this list will give you some suggestions when you’re looking to shake up the routine and try a new spot. And, with a few exceptions, many of these places are very budget friendly as well.

Life doesn’t take me toward Ybor often, but when it does, I use the opportunity to pay another visit to lara.tampa.

On our first visit, we found plenty to love, so this time, we wanted to get a mix of our favorite dishes from last time along with a sampling of items we didn’t get to try the first time around.

I’ve been on a martini kick lately, so ordering the Gilda was a no brainer. You get three skewers of smoked olives, pickled peppers and anchovies, which compliments the incredibly smooth Oleo Martini perfectly, and the first new dish I wanted to try was the Picadillo Chartar, which is a charred beef tartare with golden raisin mustarda, smoked olives and sofrito on top of fried Cuban bread. Really flavorful dish, hearty portion, and that that olive kept it on theme with the other dishes I ordered. My partner got the Stawberrry Festival, along with two dishes we really loved from our previous visit - the Drug Eggs, which are cured with soy, and served with scallions, ginger, chili and crispy shallots, and the Chicken Liver Pate, which is a must order if you’re a pate fan. Great taste and generous portion for a reasonable price.

For our next round, we got the Deviled Crab and the Mushroom Toast. The Deviled Crab wasn’t what you’d traditionally think of with a deviled crab, but a refreshing dish served with a generous portion of crab salad, with a soft shell crab encrusted with chili crisp and a dollop of custard-like hollandaise. The heat isn’t overbearing but subtly sneaks up on you. I would absolutely order this one again. With the Mushroom Toast, I probably wouldn’t order this one again. Not a knock on the dish, but I think I just prefer a mushroom toast served warm. So, not bad, just a case of different strokes for different folks.

We rounded out the meal with an order of the Charcoal Chicken Wings, which were perfectly cooked with a delicious, tangy sauce and a Sunshine State for me (think spicy mango margarita) and an Espresso Martini.

We still have yet to try an entree, as they’re only available after 6pm Thursday-Saturday, but this just gives us more to discover on the next visit.

While it may not be the most convenient movie theater, I’ve been trying to hit up sunraycine_tampa when I can, because I think they’re doing something really cool over here, and I think they’re making an effort to make a trip to the movies affordable as well, including some days with $5 admission.

It’s on the backside of University Square Mall, which looks pretty abandoned these days, but they did a nice job with the theater. Seats are comfortable with plenty of leg room. Full food and bar menu. We got their Ghost + Mr. Chicken and a boozy milkshake called Captains Courageous.

While they’re playing a lot of films playing at your neighborhood multiplexes (we saw Eddington), they’re doing a ton of cool stuff that cinephiles will appreciate, or even just some unique screenings that could make for a fun night of doing something different.

For fans of Asian Cinema, they have Wong Kar Wai Wednesdays coming soon (it’s been a minute for me, but Chunking Express is my favorite, I think), but they also have a Cat Video Fest coming soon that will benefit a local shelter. In the coming months, they’re doing a John Waters’ Polyester screening with John Waters in attendance, a Jeff Buckley documentary, some anniversary screenings of childhood favorites, and then there is always the Uncomfortable Brunch series where they screen a disturbing movie with a brunch menu (check out uncomfortablebrunch for more details).

And, there are a TON of great ethnic spots to check out up here if you want to make a day of it, like Beijing House, Lan Zhao Lamen, Flaming Mountain, Olive Tree by Chef Yousef, or you can swing by Roasted for Dubai Chocolates.

I’m not sure how many people know about this spot, so I wanted to put something out there because I know there’s an audience for a place like this. Give them a follow and keep them in mind when you’re looking for something different to do! 2025-07-26 04:58:02 W.. 32 -37% 9 +5%
Had an impromptu mid-week dinner with some of our nearest and dearest last night, and we tried out a spot they’ve mentioned a few times, lamordidagrill, which is a Colombian-Peruvian spot on 66th Street just north of Ulmerton.

We started out with the La Mordida Sampler, which gives you a bit of the ceviche, some fried fish bites and some homemade causa. I really liked all three components, and it’s a good way to start off the meal.

One of my friends just had ceviche as her meal, and then my partner and my other friend both got the Lomo Saltado, which is always a good staple of a Peruvian restaurant.

I wanted something different than what I normally go for, and I got the Pulpo La Mordida and it was fantastic. Well cooked, and it came with an anticuchera sauce that was out of this world. Smoky, some subtle heat and it paired well, not just with the octopus, but also the corn and the potatoes that came with it. Really great dish.

Our friends have also told us they go big on birthday celebrations with drums and sparklers and sure enough, a nearby table celebrated a birthday so we got to watch the show. Figured I’d include some footage in case you are looking for such a place or want to mess with one of your friends who gets easily embarrassed at that sort of thing 😂

We all sort of clung more closely to the Peruvian side of the menu on this visit, but I want to get something on the Colombian side next time, like a Bandeja Paisa or a bowl of Ajiaco, which would remind me of my vacation a couple years ago.

I’ve been to savanhoflaos a couple times now, but never quite found the dish that spoke to me. Not that I disliked anything, but I felt like I needed to explore the menu a bit more to find the right dish. I had the opportunity to stop in again tonight, and I think I’ve finally found my go-to dishes there.

We started out with the Lao Style Crispy Rice. We order a similar dish almost every time we go to Royal Thai, and this was a winner here as well. Different enough to feel distinct, but everything we love about the dish was there.

My partner got the Duck Larb. He’s never met a Larb he doesn’t like, so this worked for him. On the Lao menu, I saw they had the Par Kow Noi, which allowed you to choose three options from a set list. I figured this would allow me to dig a little deeper into the menu and find something I might order in future visits. I went with the Mok Pa (fish steamed in a banana leaf), the Sai Uwa (Pork Sausage), and the Orm Kee Lek (Collard Green Paste Soup). It’s also served with sticky rice on the side.

I loved the Mok Pa! It was moist, flavorful and fragrant, and I probably wouldn’t have ordered it on its own, but I certainly will next time. I also really enjoyed the Sai Uwa. I ate this with the sticky rice and a dab of the hot sauce that came on the side (sambal oelek perhaps?), which made a nice bite. The Orm Kee Lek was different. I liked the first few bites, but texturally, it just wasn’t my favorite. But, sometimes that’s how it goes when you explore a new menu. Glad I tried it though. If nothing else, if you’re curious about trying Lao food, the Par Kow Noi gives you three chances to find something you like rather than settling on just one dish.

Seminole doesn’t have a ton of ethnic options, but I try to support places like this when I’m in the area.

Absolutely looking forward to getting a full order of that steamed fish next time!

Got a chance to meet up with some old friends we haven’t seen in years at estuarynpr last night, and it’s always great to find a reason to get up that way.

We arrived early, and while we waited, I grabbed a “This Negroni Is B-A-N-A-N-A-S,” since it sounded a bit different, and it was nice. The banana flavor was subtle, which is what I hoped for.

Once our friends arrived and we got to our table, we grabbed a few appetizers, and our server convinced me to try the “Stained Glass.” I’m not always big on the addition of wine in a cocktail, but it worked very well here.

Of the appetizers, we knew from previous visits that the Crab Beignets were fantastic. I had a few I was torn between, but the Pork Belly with coucous, watermelon, and spicy unagi sounded interesting and it delivered. My friend got the Tuna Carpaccio, which was also on my “to try” list, and it was a great mix of flavors and textures with some nice heat involved.

My partner and I got the Wagyu Sirloin. I don’t order steaks out often, and I was torn between this and the Pork Tomahawk, but the celeriac that came with the sirloin was the deciding factor (I love celeriac, but I rarely cook with it at home). Our friends got the Braised Short Rib and the Half Chicken (not pictured), which they really liked.

For dessert, they had a special Upside Down Cheesecake, which sounded interesting to me: aerated mozzarella, cinnamon tuile, strawberry and passionfruit. I really enjoyed the flavors and thought the passionfruit was nice compliment. May have to add this as a topping when making my own cheesecakes at home!

My partner got the Chocolate Ganache, which he enjoyed and our friends got the Doughnuts, which they raved about.

Although Estuary is a bit far from us, every time we have an excuse to eat there, we’re reminded of how much we enjoy it.

Spent the day at the outlet mall, and whenever I’m heading up that way, I always make a point to stop into gorkhalikitchen for Nepalese food.

More specifically, I’m stopping into get some of their Chili Chicken Momos. They’re usually the driving force behind my visit. They’re always so good, and today was no exception. From there, it just depends on my mood, and today, I went with the Gorkhali Goat Curry. Our server said it was their most popular dish, and now I understand why. Full of flavor, very tender, but not overly heavy. Will definitely consider this one on future visits.

First time we visited, we got the Himalayan Thali, which came with Gorkhali Chicken, which my partner loved and now orders on very visit. Had a bite of his, and it too was very tender and well flavored.

I wish this place was a bit closer to us, but I like knowing this will always be the first place we consider after a day shopping the outlets.

Would you look at that? Hadn’t been in the mix for the past few years, but I got nominated again this year for cltampabay Best of the Bay awards as Best Foodie Influencer. (They used the title on my main page, Dining Around Tampa Bay, rather than the diningaroundtampa handle)

Thanks everyone who voted for me! I don’t really make all the reels that go viral, and I don’t do all the flashy openings. I just try to be authentic and give folks honest recommendations, and it looks like I’m doing something right, lol.

Thanks again! 2025-07-18 03:44:10 Would you look at.. 54 +6% 16 +87%
We’ve done a fair amount of exploring with Temple Terrace’s Asian scene, but they also have a thriving Middle Eastern scene I’ve wanted to check out, so tonight we tried out olivetreebychefyousef, and I’m so glad we did.

The menu appealed to me because it seemed covered a wide array of Middle Eastern countries, and there were several dishes I was thoroughly unfamiliar with. I’m always curious to try new things, and I didn’t want to stick with a familiar dish.

Once we were seated, our server brought a basket of warm pita over with a dish filled with olives, olive oil, herbs and a chili paste, and it was delicious. We also ordered an Olive Tree Sampler to start, which came with kibbeh, falafel, hummus, labneh and baba ghanoush. Everything on the plate was great, but I gotta say, as someone who is generally pretty ambivalent about baba ghanoush, theirs was one of the stars of the plate!

As for the entrees, one of their specialties appeared to be Mansaf, which the menu says is the national dish of Jordan, and it was also singled out in several of the reviews I read, so I had to start off with that one. It’s roasted lamb that is marinated in a yogurt sauce (jameed) and served with slivered almonds and rice, along with a bowl of warm jameed. I tried the lamb on its own and it seemed a little bland as is, but when you dip it in the jameed, it all makes sense. Very tasty and tangy, and had the lamb been seasoned too much, it might have gone overboard.

My partner got the Musakhan, which is roasted chicken that had been marinated in olive oil, sumac, and aromatic spices and then cooked over a caramelized onion flatbread, which absorbed all of the chicken’s juices.

We both really enjoyed our dishes, and the portion sizes are enormous. We’re big guys who can put away some food, but we were stuffed and our to go boxes are filled to the brim.

The restaurant was packed with diners, mostly middle eastern (when an ethnic restaurant is packed and mostly by people of that ethnicity, it tells me it’s the real deal), but be prepared to wait a little bit if you go at dinner time. But, I’m so glad we found this spot, and I can’t wait to eat these leftovers tomorrow! 2025-07-13 06:49:48 W.. 40 -22% 9 +5%
New places have been popping up left and right, but we’re taking our time checking them out. Since we’ll be trapped inside most of 4th of July weekend with a nervous dog, we decided to check slim_charmer out last night.

The team at wildchild_stpete consistently puts out great food and drinks, and everything we had met that high bar, I think.

We started with the Dirty Spice Martini and the Apple Martini. Both of them lived up to what you want out of those drinks, and we also started the meal off with the Potato Chips and Speck Ham. Really liked this as an opener. The truffle cream sauce is decadent without seeming heavy, and the speck and the Parmesan enhance you that saltiness you want when you snack on chips.

After that, we got the ‘Nduja Stuffed Bacon Wrapped Dates, which nails the flavor of that familiar party dish. The Roasted Carrots and Fava Beans brought a lot of great flavors and textures the table with assists from goat feta, cured olives, fried shallots and mint. The Maple Brook Mushroom toasts were nicely roasted and gave something a little more substantial to snack on.

We finished the meal with another round of drinks, the Watercolours, which was nice and bright, and the Kola, which is a rye drink with some flavors reminiscent of sodas with smoked Dr. Pepper foam and sassafras.

There’s limited seating and there is a time limit when you go, but this would make a great spot to do a cocktail hour before you have dinner at Wild Child. I’d gladly stop back in to check out some more of their menu.

I’ve had tiki_tims_pub_stpete on my radar for awhile and finally got a chance to stop in tonight. Owned by a couple from Philly and Maryland, they’ve brought both influences to their menu with Philly Cheesesteaks and Crab Cakes being a primary focus of the menu.

With all due respect to the Philly side, I was feeling more in the Maryland mood tonight, and went with the Maryland Crab Cake Dinner, but not without first exploring their Bloody Mary menu.

They’ve got quite a few to choose from, but the Snow Crab Bloody caught my eye, loaded with sautéed shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops, and a cluster of snow crab claws. In addition, to all that, it comes with a free regular Bloody Mary while your loaded one is being prepared. Everything on it was great, and served as a nice appetizer to start the meal.

Gotta say, I really enjoyed the crab cakes. Some of my favorite ones in the area. Nice thick chunks of lump crab, not very mayonnaisey, and a good portion size. Also really enjoyed the fries and slaw that came with it.

Some other things of note: they appear to serve breakfast/brunch dishes all day, and sometimes breakfast for dinner is what I want, so this will be a great option. They also have a dog-friendly patio, so there’s a strong chance I’ll be back to check out that Philly.

This place is kind of tucked away in a neighborhood behind Admiral Farragut (any other Pinellas kids grow up with constant threats of being sent to that military academy?). You’re unlikely to just drive past it, but it’s worth seeking out I think.

I found weltonbrewingco by chance. The hailstorm in Pinellas County last night was pretty wild, and I thought it best to pull over and get some dinner to let the storm pass. Plus, I could try a spot on my list. I originally pulled over at a new spot I’ve been meaning to get to, but they were closed tonight for a staff meeting, so I just got on Yelp, searched the map for nearby spots, and this spot offering Maine seafood and beer popped up, so I decided to give it a try.

It’s hidden behind the German-American Society on 66th Street. It’s a cinder block building, and it feels sort of like a VFW inside. There’s a bar where most people seemed to congregate along with several tables. No frills, but comfortable.

They specialize in Maine seafood, with a variety of rolls, oysters, and fried seafood baskets. One thing to note for the New Englanders around is that they have whole-belly clams, which is something my Massachusetts-born partner loves and can rarely find around here. He’s definitely interested and we’ll probably be back.

I decided to go with a Maine Lobster Roll which comes with cole slaw and Cape Cod chips, though you can upgrade to fries if you like. (Connecticut-style is also available if you prefer). It’s served on a traditional top-split bun, and while it may not be the largest lobster roll, it does arrive stuffed with large chunks of lobster.

On the beer, they’ve got a nice selection with a handful of their own brews, which I stuck with. I sampled the Crush On A Hot Blonde, which is a jalapeño blonde ale. I liked it, but didn’t know how well it would pair with a lobster roll, but the Maine’iac, which is a Bloody Mary beer, sounded perfect. It was a sipper, but I liked the pairing.

I’d certainly swing through again next time I’m in the area, and I’m always happy to find another off-the-beaten path spot.

Which Lobster Roll do you prefer? Maine or Connecticut?

Without hesitation, I’d say that royalthaitampa is the best Thai food I’ve found in Tampa. It’s in a little unassuming strip mall on Hillsborough near the airport (you can literally watch planes coming and going through the window), and it’s got some of the most unique Thai menu options I’ve seen in these parts. Sure, you can get a Pad Thai or a Green Curry, but I’d strongly encourage you to deviate from the menu items you’re familiar with.

We end up here far more frequently than I post about, and I’m now at a point where I wrestle between getting some of the new menu options I’ve found and loved or continuing the menu exploration.

These are the some of the dishes that have become my favorites over the past six months on at least ten visits, probably more. This has already become a fixture on our dining rotation.

*Crispy Rice Salad - A Must Order! To be eaten as lettuce wraps, this crispy, tangy pork and rice salad has so many incredible flavors and textures.
*Spicy Eggplant boasts some really incredible flavors in a stir fry with fresh veggies. That sauce is delicious!
*Sashimi Shrimp for the raw seafood fans out there, this one’s served with a chili topping that brings some nice heat.
*Green Papaya Salad with Crispy Pork has an incredible array of textures with savory seasonings. One of our faves!
*Golden Roasted Duck Curry is one of my favorite curry dishes around with crispy skin, brightened with pops of sweetness from the pineapple.
*Royal Thai Wings are incredible, glazed with a sweet and sour sauce along with a tangy herbaceous Jim Jaew sauce. Another must order!
*Thai Beef Boat Noodles - one of the best noodle soups around! Perfect for one of those summertime afternoon thunderstorms.
*Tom Kha is one of my favorites anywhere, and theirs is served family style - absolutely massive!
*Pork Jerky is like meat candy and comes a side of Jim Jaew sauce.
*Pork Leg Stew Over Rice has tender stewed pork with Chinese broccoli and a sour garlic sauce.

One final thing to note when you go. Humble yourself on spice because they don’t play around with the 🔥🌶️. I’m usually a Thai hot kind of guy, but I started with a 4 here, and that is more than sufficient. 2025-06-22 21:17:23 .. 42 -18% 12 +40%
I’ve been getting takeout from jjislandcuisine for years, so I’ve had an opportunity to explore their menu a bit, and last year, they opened up whagwaanjamaica, which is more a sit-down dining experience with full bar and entertainment on the weekends.

It’s actually my second time here at Wha Gwaan. The first time, they seemed to be going through some opening hiccups, so I decided I’d give them some time to find their footing and report back later. I’m glad I got to come back in. Had a great night, I see they made some menu tweaks, and the food and cocktails were fantastic.

We started with cocktails, and I really liked the Jankro, which had rum, coconut, lime, pineapple and bitters. The lime and the bitters balanced the sweetness from the other ingredients. But, the big hit at the table was the I Shot The Sheriff. An eye-catching layered drink with rum, coconut rum, melon, mango, grenadine and Caribbean spices that tempered all the sweetness. I don’t like super sweet cocktails and really liked this.

We ordered some Conch Fritters and Coco Bread to start. We liked that the fritters were more of a crab cake presentation than just a fried ball like they normally are. And the Coco Bread was warm and soft and the perfect vehicle for sopping up leftover sauce.

When it comes to entrees, I have a hard time breaking free from one of their escovitch dishes - the sauce and spicy pickled veggies are one of my favorites. But the Taste of Jamaica offered samplings of three dishes they do well - Jerk Chicken, Oxtail and Curried Goat, plus helpings of Steamed Cabbage, Rice & Peas and Festivals, which are large cornmeal fritters. This would also be a great option for those who aren’t familiar with Jamaican cuisine and are trying it for the first time.

Everyone left full and happy and we had a great time!

What’s your favorite Jamaican dish?
