Decades of binge eating to zero binge episodes in less than 12 weeks 😲

When Cathy first came to me she said that she had been obsessed with food since she was a kid. 

Coming from a “thin-obsessed” family her food and weight had been scrutinized all her life. 

To try and eliminate the shame she felt about her body size she had bariatric surgery… TWICE! 

While this did help her to shrink her body it only made her food and weight obsessions worse. 

As is the case with many people after bariatric surgery, they go through a period of losing weight, followed by a slight to moderate rebound back up. 

While this is totally normal and some people can roll with it, for some it can trigger panic like it did for Cathy. 

She started trying to cut back and control her food intake but the harder she tried the more out of control she felt. She started binge eating again, almost every day. 

By implementing my PF3® Method she was able to immediately start feeling more satisfied from her meals. Then by working together to reprogram her mindset toward body image she made huge strides in making peace with her body and bought her very first 2 piece bathing suit. 

(note: I’m not implying a 2 piece is some pinnacle of a positive body image, it was just where this client wanted to stretch out of her comfort zone)

One of the things my parents definitely did right when I was kid was frequent family dinners.

We had dinner together as a family pretty much every night. My parents often told us stories from their childhood. Things were often chaotic in our house but the dinner table is mostly fond memories.

My parents did break a lot of these guidelines but with time they got better and better. Like how they used to force me and my brothers to eat veggies and finish our plates. As we got older it morphed into, if you put it on your plate you eat it.

I’m shocked that dieting is still considered by many as a viable means for shrinking one’s body (when research overwhelmingly shows extremely low long-term success rates)…

I read some comments on another account a while back where people felt judged/shamed for not being intuitive eaters.

Some felt judged for dieting and others felt judged that they often unintuitively overeat.

The intuitive eating movement is rooted in anti-diet culture philosophies. Though this might not always be the case on social media, the spread of intuitive eating over diets really stands against passing judgement on another's way of eating.

If you aren't ready to give up dieting I'm not here to judge you but I'm here to support you and tell you you're good enough as you are. You don't need to deprive yourself, stress over calories or eliminate foods (food allergies aside) to be your best self.

If you eat for celebration, reward, coping or because it just tastes damn good I'm not here to judge... doing those things just makes you normal.

Intuitive eating doesn't have to be all or nothing.

I'd like to think I'm an intuitive eater but I still have times where I eat until I'm stuffed or crave sweets as a result of a stressful day.

Intuitive eating will look different for everyone. 

What I love most about intuitive eating is that it supports self compassion and forgiveness even when don't stick to it.

“Eat what you want”  Sounds SCARY AS HELL!

I get it!  For some people it can work great but for many it can be a total disaster. 

-An entire pint of ice cream … sounds good to me!
-Chips for dinner… why not? 
-1 donut? Why not a dozen?

Rather than alleviating food obsessions “unconditional permission to eat” can leave you stuck in a negative space of hopelessness.

Instead, put these 3 things in place first

1. Ensure your physical need for food is met
2. Be confident you understand your true triggers and catalysts
3. Apply practical strategies that help you immediately feel connected to your body

For most people the real struggle isn’t with food.  Binge eating is merely a symptom of a physical and/or emotional misalignment.
