Soup Season is Here! 🍂🍁

Over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing some of my favourite soups to make this autumn.

Episode 1 - Roasted Tomato & Harissa Soup

This isn’t your average tomato soup…
One spoonful and you’ll never go back to plain tomato soup again. The secret? Rose Harissa it adds a smoky & spicy kick.

Roasted Tomato & Harissa Soup

What you need
* 1.5 kg Mixed tomatoes
* 1 tbsp belazu_co Rose harissa paste
* Olive oil
* 1 garlic bulb
* 1 onion finely sliced
* 1 tsp sugar
* 200 ml vegetable stock
* Salt & black pepper

What to do:
1. Add your mixed tomatoes to a baking tray & spread them out. Drizzle olive oil over them. Then season with salt and pepper. Chop the head from the garlic bulb, drizzle with oil, then wrap it in foil. Place the garlic onto the tray with the tomatoes and roast for 50 minutes.
2. Heat olive oil in a large pan over a medium heat. Add the onion & a little salt. Fry for 10 minutes until soft
3. Squeeze the roasted garlic into the pan. Then add in your roasted tomatoes
4. Next up add in your harissa paste, sugar & vegetable stock. Give everything a good stir, then bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes,
5. Now add everything to a blender. Blend until it’s smooth. Taste it to see if you need to add any pepper. If you want it less thick add some more veg stock into the blender and blend again.
6. Time to serve up. Add to a bowl and top with a drizzle of harissa paste and serve with whatever bread you want

What is your favourite soup to make?

Would you believe this lunch was just £12? 👀

Random little find this. I caught up with a friend and we went to wagamama_uk. A little weekday lunch on our lunch break. But when we sat down, they handed us their new lunch menu, and honestly, I had no idea this was even a thing. I was really impressed with the choice.

From 11am–3pm, Monday to Friday, you can grab a main and a drink or coffee for only £12.

We’re talking comforting ramen, vibrant donburi bowls, fresh salads, and even their brand new chicken pho.

We both went for the Yaki Soba with chicken & prawns as it’s always one of my favourites.
Considering what you spend on a meal deal these days. This is a great little lunchtime upgrade without the hefty price tag.

Why settle for a meal deal when you can have this? 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

Did you know about this? What’s your favourite lunch out?

My favourite foodie spots in York

I find myself in York a fair bit and honestly it’s such a great spot for food and cute little coffee shops.

These are some of the places I keep coming back to whenever I visit this beautiful city. My phone was full of pictures so put this together from my visits this year so far.

blackwheatclub – Modern, creative dishes with bold flavours. My standout favourites are the Sausage & Beans & the Salt Beef Poached Eggs. Definitely worth a visit.

robinsonsyork – One of my go-to brunch spots. Think Turkish eggs, fluffy pancake stacks, and fresh, seasonal dishes. I’m a big fan of the Creamy Truffled Mushrooms on Toast. I always get this normally and a side of hash browns on the side 👌🏻

pearlycowyork – For an elevated experience, this is the spot. Aged steaks, fresh seafood, and standout desserts. The Sunday roast was perfectly sized and left me happily full.

shambleskitchen – Street food done incredibly well. I can never resist The Trufflepuff - smoked pulled pork, silky truffle mayo, crisp lettuce, and finely grated Parmesan. Comforting, rich, and just worth going back for time and time again.

heppnibakeri – An absolute must for pastries. Loved the Almond Croissant. Buttery, nutty, and perfectly balanced. I need to go again as they have so many great bakes to try. Also love the shop itself.

goodfoodshopyork – A true Bishy Road gem with artisan cheeses, fresh bread, and picnic ready sandwiches. The Fennel Salami, Provolone, Hot Honey & Piquante Peppers combo is my standout, perfectly spicy, sweet, and savoury.

stanandramona – A cosy, family-run café with great coffee and hand-baked cakes. I always stop here a few times when in York, the perfect place to grab a coffee before a morning walk.

York isn’t just rich in history it’s full of incredible food and coffee spots. These are my go tos, with plenty still on my list to try.

Have you been to York? What are your favourites? Save this for your trip ✌🏻

Looking for your next bakery spot?

layla_w10 have just opened a new location on Churchfield Road in Acton.

The new place is just a few minutes from Acton Central station. A little smaller than the original, this will be mainly for takeaways

They have all the classics you would expect from Layla but they also have New bakes that are exclusive to Acton, including:

* Hazelnut praline & chocolate chip cookie
* Blackberry & green cardamom bow tie
* Roasted hazelnut, assembly coffee & dark chocolate pain suisse

Really wanted to try the new cookie but it was sold out. Can’t get over how quick things sold out 🫠Though they did have fresh bakes constantly coming. You have to be quick though! I even thought I went at a good time ha. The disappointment as the person in front of me took the last croissant, though more arrived shortly. I wasn’t going home empty handed. 🥐🤣
The staff are super friendly and this is one spot you need to visit when in West London. The original shop is in Ladbroke Grove.

It’s open Wednesday to Sunday.

Have you been to layla_w10 yet?

If you’ve followed me for a while you will know I’m all about recipes that don’t take forever to make. If you’re like me then you need to check out this new cookbook from jonwatts88.

‘Speedy Comfort’ has 80 recipes, flavour hacks, batch-cooking tips, and air-fryer tricks to make every day easy & delicious. Even better is that all the recipes can be made in 30 minutes or less.

Had to give one of his more viral recipes a go which this time around is a pasta version.

Paprika Chicken Alfredo

For the recipe you can find it in jonwatts88 new book ‘Speedy Comfort’ which is out now.

Really impressed with how this book is written and it’s broken down into easy steps to follow. All the recipes included can be made in under 30 minutes. I had no issue following this and the flavour on this was spot on. A lot of the key ingredients you will have in your cupboard already. Hate when you get a cookbook and most of the stuff you can never find in the supermarkets. I will be giving the honey-mustard chicken recipe a go next.

What’s your comfort food?

AD PR - Big thanks to the team at bloomsburycooks for sending me out the book 💙

Looking for a mid week dinner that’s ready in under 10 minutes?

This one has some of my favourite ingredients all together. If you like Burrata and a little heat then this one is for you.

Burrata, Honey & Gochujang Gnocchi

What you need:
* 1 TSP Olive oil
* 1 TBSP Honey
* 2 garlic cloves minced
* 1 burrata
* 1 Tbsp Gochujang. Less depending on the spice level you can hack ha.
* 50g grated parmesan cheese
* Fresh basil, finely chopped for topping
* 1 pack of gnocchi
* Chilli flakes

What to do:
1. Cook the gnocchi in boiling water following package instructions. Drain but keep a bit of cooking water for later.
2. In a bowl mix the gochujang and the burrata.
3. Now get a pan & add your olive oil. You want this on a medium heat. Add in the garlic & cook for a couple of minutes.
4. Add the gochujang burrata mix. You want the sauce to be less thick so add in a little cooking water. Give it a mix until it’s a good consistency.
5. Now add the gnocchi in & mix well. Throw in the grated parmesan & mix again. The burrata will start to melt and your sauce shouldn’t be thick. If it is add a little more cooking water.
6. Now time to serve. Add your gnocchi into a bowl. Drizzle your honey over it. Then top with some cut up basil, chilli flakes & extra grated Parmesan. Enjoy!

theorchardpig challenged me to put a twist on summer.

It’s always a great idea to try different things and whilst the weather is good, Al fresco dining is where it’s at. I really need to do this more.

Adding the Orchard pig cider into a dish was a twist on a creamy chicken dish I like to make. The crisp apple flavours takes the dish to the next level.

The is your sign to get some friends or family over and have a dinner party. A nice table set-up is key. Then serve your dish sharing style.

All the ingredients I picked up at waitrose. They also stock Orchard pig 👀

The legal age for drinking is 18 and over - please drink responsibly. 🔞

Creamy cider mustard chicken with rice

Serves 4

What you need:

2 TBSP olive oil
1kg chicken thigh fillets, skin off
4 TBSP wholegrain mustard
1 large red onion, diced
3 clove garlic
1 can - Orchard Pig Cider
225g double cream
Lemon Juice - Squeeze of lemon
1/2 cup Fresh parsley, roughly chopped

What to do:

1. Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cut chicken into bits, brown for 3 minutes per side, and set aside.

2. Lower the heat to medium, sauté the onion until soft, then add grated garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

3. Stir in the Orchard Pig Cider and return the chicken. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover for 10 minutes.

4. Mix in the double cream, mustard, lemon and parsley. Cook uncovered for another 5 minutes to thicken the sauce.

5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Served with basmati rice with some coriander on top for serving.

What would your twist on summer be?

Come with me to sundayinbrooklyn_ldn for dinner.

I normally go for brunch so was great to check out the dinner offering at the Marylebone location. I was really impressed with what was on the menu.

What we went for:

Starters
* Chicken Yuma’s
Buffalo Sauce, Fancy Ranch
* House croquettes
Cauliflower, Mozzarella, Black Garlic Aioli

Mains
* Sirloin 6oz Steak
* Glazed chicken breast
+ Baked Mac & Cheese
+ Garlic buttered new potatoes
+ Green beans & almonds
+ Black Garlic Aioli sauce
+ Three Peppercorn

Dessert
* Sunday pancake™ – single
Hazelnut maple praline, brown butter
* Apple cake

Cocktails
* Sunday espresso - Mezcal Verde, Banana, Espresso, Vanilla Bean
* Orchard margarita - Seedlip Grove, Green Apple, Celery, Pandan, Lime, Pink Peppercorn, Salt

Both of the starters we had were really tasty. The House croquettes were something different. The mix of Cauliflower, Mozzarella & Black Garlic Aioli really worked.

The signature hazelnut maple praline pancake was one of the nicest pancakes I’ve had in a long time. Though boy is it filling. Definitely recommend sharing one. It’s a must.

They also have a great terrace which is perfect for this weather 🍹

Are you sweet or savoury?

Now I’m normally all about a savoury brunch dish. Though on this occasion I thought I would mix it up a little.

I tried out one of the new Belgian waffles from warburtonsuk. I went for the chocolate chip.

They have the perfect amount of chocolate in them and paired up with some mashed banana & blueberries brings a good balance haha. Perfect sweet treat. Pretty impressed with them and would have them again.

Drizzling with sweet honey & on some ginger snaps gives it a sweet & crunchy zing.

What you need:
* warburtonsuk Belgian waffle choc chip
* 1 banana
* Handful of blueberries
* Crushed ginger snaps homefree_treats
* Pine & fir tree raw honey odysea_ltd

What to do:
1. Heat up the Belgian waffle.
2. Mash up the banana and spoon onto the waffle. Then add on some blueberries
3. Drizzle over some honey and then finish with some crushed ginger snaps.

Will you be trying this sweet treat?

Looking for your next bakery to visit?

Well I would recommend a visit to sourdoughsophia
This is the new location that’s not long opened in Hampstead.

If you follow me you will know that I’m currently lovely a croissant so for me it’s any excuse to have one 🤣 The standard was high after my visit to Edinburgh. sourdoughsophia delivers with what they’re serving up. Enjoyed it so much I’ve been back since.

Loved the interior. It’s a great spot to relax and catch up with friends. The staff are really nice as well. Recommend going early though so they don’t sell out.

What we went for:
* Pain au Chocolate
* Croissant
* Cinnamon Cruffin
* Iced Coffee
* Cappuccino

We need to talk about how many layers were in the croissant 👏🏻👏🏻 Couldn’t fault anything we had. Looking forward to trying the newly launched sandwich menu.

Save this for your next bakery trip 🥐

AD Invite - Been to other locations before as a paying customer and everytime I’m impressed.

Looking for a quick lunch? Then give this a go.

If you enjoyed yesterday’s beans on toast then this one brings it again but the sauce is more creamy.

Creamy beans on toast

This quick lunch idea using Judion White Butter Beans is really creamy without using cream 👀. The added nutritional yeast gives it a slight cheesy flavour. This is also plant based.

What you need: (This is enough to cover 3 toasts)
* 2 tbsp olive oil
* 2 cloves of garlic minced
* 1 medium Red Onion
* 1/2 cup light coconut milk
* 6 cherry tomatoes halved
* Judion White Butter Beans - 360g
* 1 tbsp tomato paste
* 1/tbsp nutritional yeast
* 1 tsp Mixed herbs
* Salt & pepper
* Basil leaves - sliced for serving
* 2 TBSP Pesto
* Bread of your choice.

What to do:
1. Heat a pan on medium heat and add in your olive & red onion. Cook til the onions start to soften. Then add in the minced garlic. Give it a stir.
2. Now add in the cherry tomatoes. You want to cook these so they start to soften.
3. Add in the butter beans including the juice. Also add in the coconut milk, tomato paste, nutritional yeast, mixed herbs and some salt & pepper. Mix well together and bring this to a simmer.
4. Add a lid to your plan and cook for 10- 15 minutes. You want to stir this every couple of minutes. Keep an eye on this is that it doesn’t burn as the sauce thickens.
5. Toast your bread and then add on the beans. Add a spoonful of pesto on top and finish with some black pepper & sliced basil. Enjoy!

Looking for a twist on the classic beans on toast?

This is my Homemade beans on toast

A Simple quick lunch, taking baked beans to the next level by making your own. This you can batch cook and have multiple times. Love that you can add whatever you want to bring the heat. I’m loving butter beans at the moment.

What you need:

* 1 can butter beans
* 1 TBSP olive oil
* 1 spring onion sliced.
* 1 Red onion
* 1 can chopped tomatoes
* 2 TSP Balsamic vinegar
* 1 handful parsley chopped
* 1 TSP ground cumin
* 1 TSP smoked paprika
* Salt & Pepper
* Bread of your choice

What to do:
1. Add some olive oil to a heat pan.
2. Add in the chopped red onion & cook til they start to soften. Then add in the garlic.
3. Pour in the tinned tomatoes then your cumin, smoked paprika & salt & pepper. Give this a good mix.
4. Now add in the chopped parsley followed by your butter beans. Stir this all together.
5. Add on your balsamic vinegar.
6. Now you want to place the lid on & simmer for 15/20 minutes. You want the juices to evaporate so that the sauce thickens.
7. Once it’s done you want to spoon onto your toast.
8. Now adding your toppings - Sliced spring onions, chopped parsley & salt & pepper. Enjoy!

🍏 theorchardpig challenged me to put a twist on summer. This is my Creamy cider mustard chicken with Orchard Pig cider in the sauce, and trust me, it works.

I usually stick to the classics, but this dish is full of bold, unexpected flavours perfect for those golden hour garden dinners.

Sun’s out, table’s set, cider’s cold. Grab some friends, serve up your own summer twist, and let Orchard Pig do the talking.
