![I wish we had a designated entrance hall with cubbies and drawers and heaps of hooks, but alas this simple system will do. (The kids don’t always get their shoes into the basket, and sometimes they forget to hang their backpacks on the hooks, but at least there’s a place for these to go.) We also have a cupboard for all the mail and paperwork that comes home from school so ideally it doesn’t end up on our dining table!

![I was recently asked to describe my interiors style, and while I never really know how to answer that question, I do know that every home we’ve ever lived in has embraced accents of colour. We’ve painted our walls white to provide a neutral backdrop for all the pops of colour in every room, and I think this must be one of the things that defines my style: white walls and colourful accents. Maybe someday I’ll get even bolder with colourful walls and the use of more patterns and textures…but for now, this feels the most like me. 🌼 (Photos by ameliarushforth for our new book, The Family Home)]()

![This morning we gathered with friends in our home to celebrate the launch of our book, and it was such a special feeling to be surrounded by friends in this cosy old home of ours, to look out into our garden and see so many people we love. 🌼 I had been feeling so jittery this week, so vulnerable as we began to share this book out into the world… and now all I feel is gratitude. I was recently asked this in a radio interview, and while we’ve written an entire book to answer this question, here is my quick answer… A joyful family home is one that suits the needs of your family and allows for life to flow easily, one that allows you to enjoy your family rituals and do the things you love doing in your home. So it’s about making thoughtful choices within your home to suit your individual needs.
