In my motherland of Sicily, we have an ancient tradition. Each morning when the baker or green grocer comes around selling their products from their food truck, we shout down our order, and as the coins are lowered to the vendor through a basket tied on a string from our balcony, the order is placed in our basket, and we rise it back up to us. This was a fun reenactment at bagliocappello during my latest collaboration with them which I will share all about soon… but in modern day Sicily, the ancient tradition remains the same ♥️

Yes, it’s true that as content creators we add a sprinkle of romanticism to our filming in beautiful locations, yet this was one place that takes care of the romance all by itself, and I couldn’t help but be reminded of this classic Sicilian film while immersed in such a beautiful courtyard of this country home. The first time I visited Capri, it was on a day trip in 2015. I had already lived in Milan for years, yet I joined my family visiting from NY on a tour. We walked through the center, saw the famous Faraglioni rocks peaking out of the water, and maybe even ate a gelato. I remember thinking it was cute, but didn’t really see what all the fuss was about.
Fast forward to 2021, a year plagued by the second half of the pandemic. Italy encouraged locals to spend summer holidays in the country to boost the economy, and as someone who had lived on over 4 continents working as a model and actress, I was happy at that point to have a “staycation.” Not to mention, I had started to shift my focus to working as a content creator, and liked the idea of focusing on Italian style, travel, and traditions.
I linked with family-owned b&b 2pinicapri in AnaCapri, which hosted me as a content creator for 5 nights, followed by a stay at vacation home casaflaviacapri …and I finally saw the magic: you haven’t truly lived the spirit of the island until you’ve stayed the night. From aperitivo in Piazzetta, to dancing the night away with live music at tavernaanemaecore or with scialapopolocapri , along with waking up to the sound of the birds chirping and days spent lounging under the sun at lidodelfaro and lafontelinacapri … topped off with sunset cruises with delaislacapri , car rides with fb_capri , ravioli at il_raviolo_caprese and beautiful dinners at paolinolemontreescapri and ristorantevillaverde …My conclusion? The magic of Capri is truly experienced when you have the possibility to stay for more than just the day ♥️

About 4 years ago I met Capri local valedelaisla and we immediately became friends. While he was just a skipper at the time, now he has his own boat company delaislacapri 🌊 Our yearly boat outing has become my favorite summer ritual, and without fail, I leave feeling refreshed, grateful, and more energized than ever. ![Can I stay here forever? 🌊

Back in July I was visiting my family’s island of Sicily, traveling through the south-east coast when I received a message from a fellow Sicilian. “Christie, will you be passing through Pozzallo?” The truth is, I had no idea where Pozzallo was and had to open up Google Maps 😂 I was close… after all I was staying in Modica and going to Ragusa and Scicli. But, as the saying goes, so close yet so far. “Maybe next time!” I replied.
As a last minute change in plans would have it, that “next time” has come sooner than expected. Enter acquaduci , a two bedroom vacation home which is a stone’s throw away from the beach with the most spacious terrace I’ve ever had on my travels. With views of the sea from just about every room and services such as massages at home and private boat tours organized by the hosts Vincenzo and his wife Agnese, this space was a dream for day trip to a beach club in Pachino, and dinner in Marzememi. The icing on the cake? Coming home to have homemade limoncello and cannoli gifted to us by Vincenzo’s mother, and being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. My girl friend and I had a lovely stay here, and can’t wait to be back soon!

It’s not every day that I, an Italian travel content creator that’s had a base in Italy since 2009 “discovers a new region.” One that I don’t recall locals telling me about, that I’ve never seen in those “hidden gems of Italy” trending reels that flood my feed, have never filmed a job in, and have never stumbled upon by chance, seeing as how it’s only one hour south of Milan.
Yet, with just a quick train ride away from my home, lies this hilly countryside, which was the most dreamy weekend escape from Milan that I may have ever had. This location is also just over an hour north of Genova, east of Turin, west of Parma, or even close to Alba, making it the perfect northern Italy base to explore the surroundings.
Wait, Christie! But what about the wine?! Ah, yes 🥂👸🏻 This humble and quiet (just like me) countryside is known for producing Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero, and the most prized bubbly in all the land, Metodo Classico, aka the ”Italian version of champagne.” So where was I? I’ll tell you, even though I don’t want to because I’m already looking to purchase a villa here currently above my pay grade, but God will always provide (let the church say AMEN!) 🙋🏻♀️

Recently I had the honor of visiting bonajuto 🇮🇹 The oldest chocolate factory in Sicily. The New York Times declared it: “La Dolce Vita, Sicilian Style,” yet it started simply as a small family business making plain, but unique chocolate bars. Founded in Modica since 1880 with 6 generations of artisans, Modican chocolate’s uniqueness is in the cold-working progress where the sugar crystals do not melt, creating a granular consistency. This ancient slow food in the market through hundreds of years is more than chocolate. It’s a family story, told in every bar 🍫
The story of the bonajuto family is indeed so special that it was captured in a touching documentary on Food Network, reminding us all the dedication, faith, persistence, and vision it takes to carry an ancient product in the market through hundreds of years while maintaining the integrity not only of the chocolate, but also of the family, the community, and that of Modica as a whole. I first learned of liciaguccionebio guest house during the pandemic. Although Italian tourism was at a standstill, this Sicilian mother and daughter duo also produce organic almonds and olives of which they make oils for both cooking and skin care. Focusing on the production of their natural products, they reached out to send me some to try. I immediately said, “Don’t send them to me, I want to come and experience everything you have to offer in person!” And as it turns out, the only thing more dangerous than Sicilian women? It’s their olive oil⚱️
Licia and daughter Carolina welcomed me (plus my new better half) back with open arms to their family home now for the second time. It was established in 1860 and was home to 5 generations of passionate farmers 🫒 And although we only planned to stay one night, as soon as we arrived, my love turned to me and said, “…Can we stay here for the whole week?!”
Their guest house situated on the far side of their courtyard is a 2 bed, 2 bath with a kitchen, living room, outdoor seating area, and a pool around the back. They offer experiences including horse back riding, Sicilian bread making lessons, massages with their oils, and pilates and yoga classes. If you want to explore close by, they can organise a trip to the Baroque city of Mazzarino, or archeotrekking, where their archaeologist will hike with you to see little known sites off the beaten path. Our favorite romantic experience? A candle lit dinner under the stars with a private Sicilian chef, featuring of course, Licia’s olive oil which I lovingly refer to as “liquid gold.” ⚱️

The first collaboration with my better half was a massive success. As he is so open to new experiences and is wildly supportive and encouraging of me as a content creator, I’m starting to wonder how I ever did without him as my travel companion ♥️
As it’s his first time in Sicily, we wanted to explore around my family’s city of Palermo, so our first stop was in Castellammare del Golfo, and I’m so glad it was. Although neighboring Scopello beach was closed due to a private wedding function, we happily stumbled upon Cala Petròlo beach, which was only a 10 minute walk away from our b&b, and it quickly became one our favourite spots.
Our sweet host was bnb_curu , affectionately named after the owner’s wife’s Caterina’s nick name, “curu”. In Sicilian it translates to “little heart,” and it’s no surprise every detail of our stay with bnb_curu was immaculate and full of love, after which it was named ♥️
If you’re looking for a sweet and private Sicilian summer oasis, look no further than bnb_curu in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicilia 🌊

This is caliafarm farm in Salemi, run by Franco, Franca, and their son nicolasbites of visit__sicily 🇮🇹 It’s my second time back to their cooking classes, and everytime I feel more at home, especially because now, you can also stay in their newly refurbished family home. I stayed for 3 nights, visiting neighboring wine producers for a tasting, and also took a day trip to Marsala 🏝️

I’m in Costa dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo, a quiet coastline named after its ancient wooden fishing structures. And whether you walk or cycle along the coast, you will work up an appetite.
Brodetto alla Vastese is a dish that dates back to the year 800, when fishermen and vegetable farmers would barter and make a meal together. Or you can head inland, for “la cucina popolare Frentana” for historical slow food recipes.
