Common questions about Childrens Hospital LA’s Instagram analytics.
- Cole and his family traveled from out of state to receive expert care at CHLA’s Cancer and Blood Disease Institute. Cole’s father, a firefighter himself, stopped by the local fire station and asked if the crew might visit Cole in the hospital. Without hesitation, Los Angeles Fire Department Station 35 extended their ladder truck up to Cole’s hospital window with a big “Get Well Soon” sign. They later visited his room to deliver a goody bag and some encouragement. “It meant the world to Cole,” his dad shared. Thank you to the LAFD Station 35 crew for going above and beyond to lift the spirits of one of our brave young patients. 💙 Video credit: brookeritchienails
- A heartfelt thank you to Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Sasha Farber for bringing light, laughter, and creativity to CHLA! Patients enjoyed a special experience painting portraits inspired by Sasha’s most iconic performances. One unforgettable moment came when Sasha connected with a fellow Russian-speaking family, turning a simple visit into a powerful reminder of the joy and healing that come from human connection.
- Diagnosed right after birth with a rare form of liver disease, 2-week-old Banner needed a transplant to save his life—though according to all available records, a liver transplant on a neonate had never been performed in California. Banner was immediately put on waitlist for a new liver, and an organ from an adult donor was quickly found. In comes CHLA’s Dr. Kambiz Etesami, MD FACS, who had the tough task of cutting down the organ to the perfect size to work for 7-pound Banner. After driving down to San Diego to retrieve the liver himself, Dr. Etesami and his team took Banner back for surgery, emerging 16 hours later with the youngest recipient of a liver transplant in California since data on pediatric liver transplants began to be collected in 1988. 3 months later, Banner was finally given the green light to return home after his new liver and other organs showed huge improvement. “There are very few places that would undertake this kind of transplant and even fewer that would do it successfully,” says Dr. Etesami.
