Before I launched my photography business, I spent many years working in television and film — and my husband is a television editor — so I’ve met my fair share of celebrities. I don’t get starstruck easily. (Okay, I definitely had a moment when I saw Steve Martin.) But meeting Jayne Ann Krentz had me a little starry-eyed. Because to me, she is a star. I’ve been reading her books for close to thirty years. I picked up my first Amanda Quick novel as a tween, and I still remember the delicious anxiety I’d feel—the suspense she wove into those stories before delivering that guaranteed, satisfying happily ever after. Jayne has also been one of the genre’s earliest and most thoughtful voices when it comes to talking about romance—its power, its legacy, its importance. That conversation is still vital today. If you’re not familiar with her work, do yourself a favor: pick up one of her books and listen to her on the Fated Mates podcast (Season 4, Episode 18). I promise you will laugh and learn — Sarah and Jenn did a fantastic interview and Jayne is just incredibly fun and compelling. I didn’t know about Riley Hart before I made this book. I was specifically looking for an indy author who published queer romance and the name Riley Hart came up over and over again. So I began to read her novels and was struck by the (don’t groan) heart in them. Riley writes the most achingly sweet men who are trying so hard in circumstances that they didn’t choose for themselves and I am thrilled that we get to feature both her and her characters in this book. And I feel like you can see the (again, don’t groan) heart that shines out of her face. Photographing rebekahweatherspoon was a masterclass in finding your joy and accepting yourself. It’s rare that I get to photograph someone so insanely comfortable in their own skin, who can look at the back of my camera and shout about what a hottie they are. 🔥🔥🔥 She was so fun and full of joy and I could see the soul of the child inside of her.  Did I mention she’s also a talented author? Is there a cooler YA author than susanleewrites with her leather pants and Joan Jett vibes? I read Susan’s books after Ali Hazelwood sent a big box of YA books to my kid and we fought over who was going to read the ones with the pretty covers first (aka The Name Drop and Seoulmates.) Both of them turned out to be so much fun and I was so excited that Susan was willing to come up to LA for this session and to be a part of The Happily Ever After Society book. 🎉 She is endlessly kind and fun to hang out with and I think that’s why her books are so fun to read — her own lovely spirit and character flows into her book characters. 💕 Her newest book, The Romance Rivalry, drops next week and I’m so excited for our pre-order from meetcutebookshop !! Zoey Draven’s books are some of my favorite escapism. Her world building just delivers for me, her plots move fast, the characters are fun and the spice is spicy. 🔥🔥🔥 If you have not discovered her Horde Kings or Brides of Kylorr series, you are in for a treat. (But clear your schedule, because you won’t want to stop reading.) I was so excited when she said yes to this project and thrilled to find out that in addition to being a talented author, she’s also an insanely kind person. (Did I mention she’s also gorgeous?) New York was so wonderful. This was the last shot of the last shoot day. We went up to the studio rooftop and the stunningly gorgeous tiawilliamswrites just channeled all of her goddess energy in the wind with the Brooklyn skyline in the background. When I’m not stressed out and working non-stop, I sometimes take a moment to reflect and get very excited about the fact that I have been able to meet and photograph some of my favorite authors. This project has been a strange and wonderful dream. I drove up to the Bay area this weekend to photograph Jasmine Guillory and Frederick Smith — both authors who exude a warm and kind energy. The difference that kind of energy makes in my general workday is so huge. 💗 I brought my kids with me so that they could hang out with our family who lives in the area and so that we could have a big adventure and make some fun memories before I disappear on them next month to go to DC, NYC, Texas and Seattle to photograph authors. We took the trip back in two days, stopping at so many beaches to collect shells and watch for dolphins. 🌊🌊🌊 And now, I am back home and working on my mountain of emails.
