File this under: “Best Worst Idea”… but as of Wednesday, I’ve added “Chicken Farmer” to my resume. We became the owners of four baby Sapphire Splash chicks… they are less than a week old now, but will begin producing eggs in around 16 weeks.

Sapphire Splash chickens are prolific egg layers, producing around 290- 300 large eggs per year. They have an average lifespan of 6 years in backyard confinement (we will move them to a larger coop once they get bigger.) They are so lovable and are known for their calm, docile personalities. They aren’t noisy… our only issue is we suspect one of the chicks might be a male and, in that case, we will have to rehome it because roosters aren’t allowed in the Tampa city limits.

So far, the upkeep has been minimal. We change the poo pad once daily and keep the water refilled and heat lamp plugged in.

Hoping for an uneventful hurricane season… but willing to hire someone to care for these chicks if we have evacuate. 😱

Happy happy birthday to our TEENAGER, Arden. 😭 Born on the Ides of March and one week late, I remember was in labor with her at my job and literally waited until after I finished a report before heading to the hospital. 🤪 It’s really true that the days are long, but the years are short. This girl loves volleyball, track, beauty products 🤣, and is obsessed with baby animals. We love you and thank God for making us your parents. 2025-03-15 20:08:49 Happy happy bi.. 442 +3% 81 +254%
Tis the season! 🎄

I’m taking orders for custom oyster shell ornaments for the holidays. These are perfect gifts for the newly married couple, sports fans, a new home homeowner, business gifts, tennis/ pickleball teammates, and for the person who has everything. Fully customizable.

I’m closing on a new house soon and won’t have as much capacity as I had in the past, so get your orders in now. Do NOT DM me if you are interested, instead please text me at 813-841-7580 to place your order (I’m trying to limit my social media time and could miss your message 🤪).

My kids have attended at least 7 Father-Daughter dances over the years and last night was the last (as little girls- my 6th grader already aged out.) Through the years, I found these more stressful than fun. Scrambling to buy a dress, order the corsage, schedule the hair appointment, make sure the shoes fit, and pick up my husband’s outfit from the dry cleaner. I really wish I would have enjoyed it and savored the moments instead of letting chaos historically get the best of me. Last night I was really able to sit back and enjoy the moment and recognize the event as a milestone “last”. I know it’s cliche, but these kids really do grow up so fast. ❤️ 2024-04-06 17:35:38 My kids have .. 221 -49% 20 -13%

As cliche as it is, if a year ago, someone had told me where my life would be now, I wouldn't believe it. After 15 years as a civil litigator, I am taking a sabbatical from the practice of law so I can stay home and focus on my family. My last day at work is 11/30. I want to celebrate, but this is so hard and bittersweet.

While I do love my job, I know in my heart that being an attorney is not my authentic passion. I am not putting bad guys in jail or saving people from human trafficking... I fight over money all day, every day. I am over it. I'm over trying to do homework with my kids after school, but all I can really think about is the phone call I need to return, the email I need to send, the hearing I need to be prepared for. I am over being fired up about something underhanded that opposing counsel did or how my client is paying stupid money to a plaintiff who is lying about their injuries. I don't want to do it anymore.

I know that not every parent is in a position to stay home, but would love to. I see you and I respect you. I also know that there are so many women who are great lawyers AND great moms. That isn't me. I lack the bandwidth to be truly great at both. When I was growing up, my mom always drilled into my head that I needed to get a good education and good career so I could support myself if anything ever happened to my husband. And so I did that. I busted my tail through law school and I paid for my own education. I worked for everything I have without anyone else’s help. I worked for the proverbial man, dealt with billable hours, and climbed the ranks in what was historically a man's world. I did it and I don't want to do it anymore (for now). I also learned valuable lessons and made friends with people who will be my friends forever. I am so grateful.

But now it is time for a new season. I am excited to focus on my girls and see where God leads me. ❤️ 🌈 2023-11-22 18:02:13 As cliche as it .. 547 +27% 95 +315%
This ring was a gift that my grandfather gave to my grandmother on their 25th wedding anniversary. When my grandmother died in 2022, my Aunt thought it was perfect for me. It was the same size, didn’t need fitted at all.

I was devastated when I thought I lost this ring a couple months ago. Turned the house upside down and enlisted help from my kids and the cleaners. I was sick over it and didn’t have the nerve to tell my mom.

I was having the worst morning on Sunday. I was in a terrible mood and had a lot of stressful things on my mind. I was packing for vacation when I checked my old wallet for a gift card. THE RING WAS THERE!

I don’t care what anyone says about coincidences. That was my grandma looking out for me in my time of frustration and stress to tell me she’s still here.

Merry Christmas!

I lost my grandmother in January, but keep her memory alive with this wreath I made, which contains many of our family’s heirloom vintage ornaments. Some of the ornaments are 70 years old.

This wreath brings me joy. Beauty in the ashes.

Christmas is a time of celebration, but for many of us a time of bittersweet pain, sadness, and longing for years past.

Sending well wishes for love, peace, and hope to all of you in 2022.

I hope you find joy and solace in your old memories and in creating new ones. ❤️ 🖼 2022-12-26 07:01:55 Merry Christmas!.. 427 -1% 19 -17%
New York City during the holidays with kids:

1. We planned this trip back in April with my friend and her two daughters. They came down with the flu and cancelled the day before. I was worried about keeping my girls busy in NYC without their buddies (and they tend to bicker if they don’t have a distraction), but it worked out.

2. We stayed in a family size room at the Langham in midtown. Safe, the service was bar none, and the hotel was walking distance to Rockefeller center and the Empire State Building.

3. Things we loved: The Rockettes, shopping, and tea at the plaza.

4. Things we could have lived without: the ice cream museum and ice skating.

6. Things that surprised me: the smell of marijuana everywhere.

7. Don’t get scammed: riding the rickshaw is a tourist trap. We fell for it.

8. We flew into LGA (nonstop flights from tampa!) the airport was remodeled and is beautiful. Quick ride to the city. Take a taxi- don’t let a slick Rick con you into riding with his buddy in a Lincoln Navigator- you’ll spend 4x as much (don’t ask me how I know 🤯).

9. Don’t over-schedule yourself. Part of the fun is exploring with no agenda.

10. Best window decor- Bergdorf Goodman.

11. There were no issues with Covid. We aren’t vaccinated, it wasn’t a problem at all, nobody asked us for a vax card, and the only time anyone was asked to wear a mask was in a jewelry store in Chinatown.

Trauma fatigue is REAL! This photo was taken in Georgia. The girls and I fled there for Hurricane Ian while my husband stayed in Tampa to hold down the fort. I’m smiling on the outside but defeated on the inside.

The storm hit Florida’s gulf coast on September 28, but what most folks don’t realize is that the weeks before and after can be exhausting.

When a storm is on the horizon, it’s the worry of what direction it will go, whether you need to evacuate, where you will evacuate, if your insurance is lined up, what valuables you’ll take with you, buying materials to prepare your home, and whether you have enough food and water. Its filling your gas tank and stressing about looters. It’s you missing work and the kids missing school. It’s trying to avoid the weather channel, but knowing you can’t. You’re freaking out because everyone around you is freaking out.

Then the storm hits. If you evacuated, you don’t know if your home is still standing. If you didn’t evacuate, you’re worried about getting hurt. There’s no electricity. You can’t get ahold of your friends or family to check on them. Someone you know is stuck on the second story of their house with no food or medication. You can’t drive anywhere because the streets are flooded.

After the storm you return home to extensive property damage and no power. This is Florida and the house is steamy and smells like mildew. The food in your fridge is bad, but there’s a shortage at the grocery store and most of the local restaurants- also without electricity- are closed. Your roof is damaged and all the contractors are busy. Your insurance carrier won’t call you back. Your kids are going nuts from being out of school. You are exhausted from worrying and not sleeping.

It’s been two weeks since the storm and I’m still mentally and physically exhausted. It’s hard to focus and I’m tired all the time. And the more I talk to others, the more I see that they feel it too.

Just because the storm is over doesn’t mean the dust has settled.

This isn’t a cry for help (I’m fine)- just a message that if you feel this way, you’re not alone. Sending love and support to those who need it. Solidarity! 2022-10-13 18:21:14 .. 573 +33% 22 -4%
Hello, hello! 🖼

In case you missed my stories, I’ve started painting one of a kind custom champagne bottles as a fun hobby. I don’t have any experience with the arts but saw someone else doing it and thought: “maybe I can, too!” (Moral: if you want to do something, do it.)

If you’re like me, finding the perfect gift at this place in my life is difficult. My loved ones tend to already have what they need, so it’s been hard finding something special without relying on a gift card.

These custom champagne bottles make the perfect gifts for housewarming, promotions, weddings, milestone birthdays, anniversaries, retirement… sky’s the limit! Akin to a charm bracelet, I can include all of thr recipient’s “favorite things”: their pets, their kids, their hobbies, their travels, etc.

I started a page at oceanluxeart but wanted to share here, where I have a larger audience. Check it out!

I’m an informal operation over here- no website, no brick and mortar, just moi. If you’d like to place a custom order, shoot me a PM.

Don’t eat out.

Walk. Gas is insane.

No Starbucks- make your own coffee.

Shop on the outer edges of the grocery store.

Don’t use credit cards- pay in cash if you can. Nobody ever got rich from credit card points.

Delete emails promoting sales- they only entice you to buy stuff you don’t need.

Hide all social media ads from your feeds. More enticing.

Listen up. 🔈

Despite being a longtime Tampa resident, I have never ventured to the jamesmuseum in St. Pete since it opened in 2018.

Now I will say, I enjoy learning about the Native American culture and history. When the museum reached out to me to promote their special exhibit: the photography of Ansel Adams and Clyde Butcher, I thought “yeah, sounds cool, I guess I’ll go.”

It knocked my socks off. 🧦

I was blown away by the awe-inspiring photography of Ansel Adams and Clyde Butcher and the museum’s collection of sculptures, paintings, photography, and Native jewelry.

The James Museum was founded by Tom and Mary James. Tom James is the former Chairman and CEO of Raymond James financial services. The couple amassed a significant collection of art that speaks to their interests in history, storytelling, and human connection. The Jameses share a passion for supporting living artists, especially those who portray subjects of American Western history, American Indian cultures, and wildlife.

Now through July 31, the museum has a special exhibit called Ansel Adams: The Masterworks and Clyde Butcher: America the Beautiful. Drawn by the beauty, grandeur and complexity of American landscapes, Ansel Adams and Clyde Butcher pay reverence to our natural world. 🌳

The Ansel Adams exhibition includes 32 black and white prints, spanning four decades of photography. The Masterworks showcases the skill and talent through which Ansel Adams captured the majesty of National Parks, the peoples of New Mexico, and the landscapes of America. Masterworks contains some of Adams’ most well-known images (my fave was Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico). 📷

The Clyde Butcher exhibition includes photographs of wild and natural places where few humans have ventured. His oversized dramatic images are a valued artistic expression of what we have, and what we might lose if we do not protect our environment. Butcher grew up in California and later relocated to Florida, finding peace and his life’s mission within the Everglades after his son was killed by a drunk driver. He dealt with his grief through photography. 🖼

Trust me. This is an exhibit you don’t want to miss. 2022-05-22 21:00:23 .. 793 +84% 9 -61%
Today would have been my grandma’s 88th birthday.

My mom, sister, and I made the pilgrimage to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, last weekend to do what I’ve been dreading: rummaging through her personal items to divvy out what we wanted to keep and donating the rest.

We had other family members there and nobody argued about petty things. I didn’t care about the fancy clothes or expensive jewelry (though I did snag some Bob Mackie sweaters that fit me).

It was hard going through the pictures, newspaper articles she saved, letters I wrote her in first grade, and delving through her library to choose what I wanted to keep. It feels wrong going through someone else’s life to determine what material possessions are worth keeping.

I came across a framed needlepoint that my grandparents had in their kitchen for 30 years. It said “life wasn’t meant to be easy… life was meant to be LIFE.” My grandfather gave me his blessing to take it with me. I will never see that art on a frame and be reminded of childhood summers spent at my grandparents house and all the memories that accompanied those visits. It’s ironic how all those years I looked at the art I never knew it would be something I chose to take to remember my grandma.

In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul says that faith, hope, and love abide, but the greatest is love. This weekend I could see- despite obstacles- how love overcame grudges, love overcame pride, love overcame wrongdoing, love chooses to remember the good, and the loss of someone you love can break your heart over and over again. 2022-05-18 06:28:20 Today w.. 598 +39% 13 -43%
