Anthropic will pay authors around $3,000 each to cover an estimated 500,000 books that were included in the settlement. They’re accused of illegally using books to train their AI models.
The judge (in northern california) said their training was fair use but how they got the books (pirated copies) was not. The judge said they pirated more than 7 million copies of books.

![Research shows mass shooters often follow a pattern and I’ve been curious about what some of those patterns are so here’s what I’ve learned (mostly from Dr. Peter Langman):
• References to past shooters in usernames, homework, posts, etc. This includes their nicknames.
• References to hateful or extremist groups.
• Dehumanizing language.
• Other research shows strong links with violence against women (there was a recent study on this- I think Duke of UPenn… ) and there’s some older research that talks about copycats looking for the national attention.
As a mom I like knowing these patterns because it makes me feel like I have some way of helping, but realistically I know the most impactful change will probably comefrom policy, funding & investments.

![If you visit Miami, here are the spots I’d recommend as a local:
1. A fritanga. (Most are along West Flagler St.) There’s a few but Carne Asada Tortilleria Nicas is very popular right now. Expect a line but it moves fast.
2. Islas Canarias on coral way and 137th is a classic & while it does show up on some travel lists, it’s still not touristy.
I’ve been going there since I was a kid. They also have a bakery that focuses on breakfast and sandwiches around the corner and Amelia in the same shopping center is also related but more upscale.
3. And last my favorite bakery, Jessy Bakery on coral way & 87th Ave.
Get the regular croqueta de jamón , a pastelito de guayaba y queso, a pastelito de queso and a café con leche or cortadito. Also they have sandwiches like a media noche which you rarely find outside of miami.
My only advice is to google translate the food orders in Spanish to make ordering easier.

![An airport worker warned people online, not to throw away their luggage tags at the airport because scammers are stealing them and filing fraudulent missing luggage and/or items claims.
There isn’t much reporting on this yet but when I spoke with an airline employee they agreed and added that the luggage tags also have important information such as your name and record locator which can give someone access to your flight details.
It’s best to toss them at home and shred it.
