![Back in December we took a family vacation to Mexico for a little relax after a stressful time. Little did we know during that trip I’d leave to go check on my mom and find out she needed surgery. I never posted about that trip out of respect for all my mom was going through. This last week was hard for me in the same way and my crew, now including my mom who is so much better all these months later, all went back to Mexico again, so I could recuperate! I took most of the same stuff… see if you can spot when I am wearing it, with short hair, or now with much longer!]()

![Tonight you’ll meet my mom as we talk about my dad’s battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Watching this back is painful, especially since he passed shortly after filming. You’ll see a bit more of him and my mom in upcoming episodes, and while it’s tender for me, I know having the footage of him will be something I cherish forever. To everyone who has faced, or will face, this journey, my heart is with you.
My dad was a proud Welshman who moved to the US to finish his bachelors, then masters and PHD in chemical engineering. He worked for Chevron for almost four decades, raised four children and was the most wonderful grandfather to 16. My dad was funny, kind and incredibly thoughtful. He always said no problem was too big to solve, and no problem to figure out more important than a person to be loved. Even though his math tutoring sessions with me in high school didn’t feel that way! He loved my daughter and dogs so much and I always felt so proud when my quick comebacks or puns made him laugh. No one loved a dessert more than him! He taught me to value continually evolving and learning and to know how to have a good time. He spent his retirement serving at the Oakland Temple and refereeing youth soccer. He loved my mom through their entire 51 year marriage and she was there for him every step of his illness. ❤️]()

![So many exciting things coming this fall, but I should start by sharing the most exciting thing I’ve did earlier this year: getting my US citizenship! I was born in Brazil to parents with UK citizenship so I moved to this country as a little girl with dual citizenship already. Our family moved to Europe and back when I was in elementary school and honestly, as a child I never thought about it. As a young adult I truly didn’t either. As I got more interested (and horrified) by politics in the last few years I realized I needed to become a US citizen. Donating and volunteering were important, but I also wanted to vote. Also, while the country feels more polarized than ever, I wanted to become an American, and continue to work for what I want to see happen here. The process of applying, interviewing, studying etc was so eye opening, if you haven’t been through it, and I am both so grateful for my own acknowledged privilege and more aware how difficult it can be for others. Since my swearing in ceremony and becoming a citizen I feel so thrilled but also the significance and the weight of responsibility!]()

A new school year, the change of time, the crisp air to snap you into the present, the excitement of fashion shows, my birthday… autumn has always been my time to think about what I personally need to shed as the leaves fall to make room for new growth. This coming season holds so many exciting new opportunities for me, a milestone birthday, and the close of a quiet summer following a really tough winter and spring. I am enjoying the last few weeks of summer, sun, and long, lazy days, but I am also feeling oh so ready for the process of letting go and being open for new growth. Oh, and fashion month.
