A quick trip to one of my favourite, and one of the oldest, bars in Barcelona 🙌🏼

This is barmarsella in Raval, a spot once frequented by Picasso, Dalí, Hemingway, and now of course the great tristin_vissers 

Luckily they let him behind the bar to mix up a Spanish-Canadian fusion cocktail, with a bit of theatre, and a lot of history. 

The bar was founded back in 1820 by French immigrants to Barcelona, and is known for its delicious and delirious absinthe!

I remember my first time trying Ayran...

It was odd – a watery, yogurty drink that's a bit salty, but also sour?

Ep. 24 – Japanese Sake with misakidrinks 🍶

This really is one of my favourite drinks from around the world, and as most Japanophiles will agree, it has a super unique culture around it. 

Sake is made from rice, koji mold, yeast, water, and time – so pure, so good. 

Pairs amazing with sushi and ramen, of course, but don’t sleep on a nice steak or even fruity dessert!

I really like to enjoy it on its own, chilled, but there are some really creative sake cocktails coming out lately which I’ll touch on in future videos!

In the meantime, try it out with some ice and a splash of tonic and you might just be blown away 👌🏼

Ep. 24 – Kontabas from Ukraine

An almost forgotten Ukrainian spirit, made from the buds of blackcurrant bushes, this is kontabas.ukraine. 

The recipe goes back at least to the 18th century, just a litre requires half a litre of buds, and over-harvesting can kill the plant, so it was quite the luxurious sipper reserved mostly to nobility.

In 2018, brothers Roman and Andrii Pelekh stumbled on 90 litres of old Kontabas and a notebook of recipes in a Carpathian cellar – the taste is forestry, herbal, aromatic, and more like a fine cognac than vodka. 

From that discovery, they built the brand Kontapel, bringing this rare drink back to life.

I also gave a quick sip to another Ukrainian drink from another brand called Rutabalm.global – 96 Ukrainian botanicals in one bottle, with a more fruity tone, but still packs a fruity punch.

[ENG] Didn’t know you could rent a pool in Barcelona? Neither did I, until I heard of cocopool_es 

It was my birthday coming up, and I figured, let’s skip the beach this year and try something a little more private.

They helped me find a spot accessible by train (and a short taxi), but still secluded enough for an incredible view into nature.

Pure pool party vibes – thanks again to mauricideharo and tukki_larola for bringing the great tunes, foodybarcelona for making the connection, and everyone else who made the mission to our CocoPool!

Ep. 23 – Norwegian Cider with arcticflavorsappetites

Taking apples to a whole new level with this one!

In Norway, cider is a premium beverage – pressed from handpicked apples grown in the cool breeze of a unique fjord microclimate, fermented slow, and served chilled in a wine glass.

These bottles from Apal_Sideri and OmCideras are slowly popping up around Barcelona, and today I’m sipping on a crisp example called Sølvsider with the Aroma and Summerred apple varieties. 

It’s bubbly, slightly sweet, but with a dry acidity that I love.

More table top tips for brewing with the new Pixapresso from wacaco_official:

1 / Always use filtered water – this should go without saying, but not only does it effect taste, it also protects longevity of the machine to prevent limescale.

2 / Grind around 15 clicks on Exagrind – But each coffee will be different so test and measure. It should provide a good amount of tension without clogging up or becoming bitter. 

3 / Tamp lightly – This is to prevent adding too much pressure but of course it depends on the grind size you’ve chosen as well

4 / Enjoy in a glass cup – see the beautiful espresso foam cascade down before your first sip.

Ep. 22 – Milky Frothy Salty Ayran

I’ll be honest, this drink was not love at first sip, but over the years, and multiple trips to Turkey, it’s really grown on me.

And it turns out, a mix of yogurt, water, and salt hits so well on a hot day, and I’d really like to hear if you’ve ever had a cocktail with Ayran that I should try!

I also don’t know if there’s any rules or etiquette around this drink I should know, but for me, if I’m having minced lamb kebab, I’m having Ayran.

Ep. 21 – Şalgam from Adana 🇹🇷

If rakı is Turkey’s famous spirit, then şalgam is its funky, alc-free, purpley companion.

Made from fermented purple carrots, turnip, bulgur, and salt, this deep dark drink is sour, salty, and I always go for the spicy version.

Traditionally served ice cold alongside kebab or with rakı, it’s especially popular in southern cities like Adana or Mersin. 

Think of it as a refreshment, a palate cleanser, and a digestive all in one.

Love it or hate it, şalgam is one of those flavours that tells you are, undoubtedly in Türkiye.

Introducing the new Pixapresso on Two Wheels!

In the past, I would have had to bring boiled water in my thermos, and pump through my espresso by hand, all while riding the bike, but now…

With the latest, fully-electric brewer from wacaco_official, it does most of the job for me – I just have to load it with freshly ground beans, and the rest is coffee history!

Little caveat, this was the final prototype model, and also, the display flickering was strictly due to the frame rates on the screen out of sync with the video frame rates on my phone (silly tech stuff)…

Ep. 20 – Turkish Rakı with Tekirdağ 🇹🇷

Turkey’s national spirit, rakı, isn’t just a drink… it’s a sipping ritual.

Traditionally enjoyed slowly over a rakı sofrası (rakı table), and always with small plates of the quintessential meze. 

And if you’ve never had anise, imagine a soft liquorice note, not too sweet, and without the salty tang of the black variety. 

Tekirdağ’s style is smooth, made only from fresh grape distillate, matured in oak barrels, with a clean finish. 

Rakı’s cloudy “lion’s milk” appearance comes from the anise oil reacting to water as tiny suspended solids, and its history stretches back through the Ottoman era, evolving into a symbol of Turkish hospitality and conversation.

Unexpectedly behind a “focaccia” shop (I feel like I should expect that by now…) focacha.bcn is a multi-textured cocktail den of colours, flavours, lighting, and vibes. 

We were served a quaint welcome drink by alan.bonifacio and of course I went for their twist on a Negroni: Jean Michel Jarre

I like to stay active, to get out there, to never stop exploring… but naturally for me, that comes with a bit of sweat
