These two photos show a scenario in coffee farms that you wouldn't expect. But this is the reality of the post harvest when many producers choose to renew and prune their trees so they rest the next year and are ready to produce a healthy crop in the following year. It's all about balance, doing around 20% of the farm each year makes sure trees are rested and healthy!

Does it look at bit scary? 😬😂

Some more photos of the 25/26 crop. As we conclude harvesting we know quality has been great! But quantity? Well, it seems that one of the factors driving prices back up is the fear that the crop was smaller than expected and the next one might not be as big as expected. We can only wait and see!

Join Bossa Coffee, Campbell & Syme, and Brewed for an evening of conversation and tasting.

We’ll cup new crop coffees and have a taste of Brazilian wines, with a special focus on the Mogiana region — a unique area where coffee and vineyards grow side by side thanks to a new agriculture technique called winter pruning.

This cupping brings together every step of the journey—from sourcing to roasting to brewing—highlighting the close collaboration between producers, importers, roasters and cafés.

Let’s connect, taste, and discuss coffee and wine together.

🍒🌾 As ripe cherries get hand-picked, cover crops are also carefully managed between roles.

These plants play an essential role all year round and during harvest, they need to be trimmed back to allow pickers to move through the fields, without losing their benefits.

It’s all about balance: nurturing the soil while bringing in the best cherries of the season.

Market Update – July

The new Brazil crop is coming in with good quality, despite being an off-cycle year. However, overall supply remains tight, and logistical challenges are rising.

The C Market is back at 300 cts/lb and going up. The bounce was driven by weather concerns and new U.S. trade tensions. A surprise announcement of a 50% tariff on all Brazilian imports from August 1 has added more pressure to an already uncertain market, especially as Brazil supplies about a third of U.S. green coffee.

Robusta futures continued to slide due to harvest pressure in Vietnam and steady exports. Still, tight supply keeps buyers worried.

The latest IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) forecast puts Brazil’s 25/26 crop at 57.5 million bags—up slightly from last month, mostly thanks to Conilon, with around 50% harvest completion. Arabica production is expected to be lower year on year, but quality so far looks promising.

We’re tasting some great coffees already, but with a market this volatile, planning ahead is more important than ever.

Harvest season in Brazil is underway with approximately 25% of the crop has been harvested so far. Bruna is heading home to Pinhal next week to begin QC at Costa Café’s export office. She will be spending the next month tasting and selecting lots from the new crop and spending time with producers.

Things are looking promising compared to last year—more larger screen beans coming through, with around 20-25% of bica (unprocessed lots) with bigger screen sizes. For context, last year the larger screens were under 10% of the harvest attributing to significantly lower yields.

We’re expecting the new crop to start arriving in the UK from late October onwards. A few interesting micro lots will be on our radar—perfect for seasonal coffees in the colder months (yes, we’re thinking ahead…🎅)

We’ve still got a handful of current crop lots around if you need to tide things over until then.

New crop samples will start coming soon.

As always, drop us a message if you’re curious or want to chat about what’s coming in.

In Brazil, the cherries are ripening as the start of the harvest approaches. The good news? Cherry maturation is looking better than last year—fingers crossed for a delicious crop ahead.

One Year of Bossa Coffee 🎉

✨ We’ve been so caught up with travels, Q calibration and moving offices that we completely forgot to celebrate a big milestone… Bossa just turned ONE! 🎉

It’s hard to believe how much has happened in just a year. We’re genuinely so proud and excited to see where the company is today — and incredibly grateful for all the inspiring coffee roasters we’ve connected (and reconnected) with along the way.

We feel lucky every day that our clients are not just clients, but people we admire — roasters who stand for true relationship-based sourcing, transparency, quality, and support for independent businesses. You make this industry what it is, and it’s a privilege to work alongside you.

We wish we could throw a huge party to celebrate this journey with all of you — not quite in the budget (yet 😉), but hopefully one day soon!

From the bottom of our hearts: thank you for believing in us, for stepping outside the comfort of the usual suppliers, and for choosing a women-led, independent company instead. Your trust and support mean the world — we’ve been working incredibly hard, and you make every bit of it worth it.

🥂 to the next chapter — and many more coffees together. ☕💫

With love,
Bruna and Emma

Cover crops! 🌱☕

We thought we should speak a bit about them today as they are a key aspect of regenerative agriculture.

Cover crops play a crucial role in regenerative coffee farming—protecting the soil from erosion, fixing nitrogen, improving water retention, and boosting biodiversity. By covering the ground between coffee rows, they create a living layer that restores soil health and supports long-term productivity.

We’ve seen first-hand how farms using cover crops show more resilience in tough seasons. It’s a simple practice with powerful impact.

Today, we honour the hardworking women and mothers in coffee—producers, roasters, and everyone in between. A special appreciation for our very own mothers!! Both photos are from them visiting us in the UK.

Bruna’s mum is a coffee producer and one of our valued suppliers, whose dedication inspires us every day. And Emma’s mum is one of our biggest supporters and her feedback is what keeps us going 😊❤☕🌸

Coffee and wine tasting! 🍷☕

Our cupping with Swan Song Coffee & La Collina in Manchester was a success and we couldn’t be happier about the incredible group of people we managed to put together!

As we are passionate about developing our sensory skills, we love to combine coffee and wine 🍷☕

We tasted incredible coffees from our 2024 sourcing trip—And the biggest surprise? A Peaberry lot from Patricia Coelho at Fazenda Santo Antonio, the neighbouring farm of Guaspari Winery—full-bodied & sweet, just like the Syrah we tasted alongside it!

Curious about peaberries? Check out our latest article – link in bio.

Coffee flowering is very special, but easy to miss as it only lasts a few days. Unlike most fruit trees, arabica doesn’t rely on insects for pollination since it’s self-pollinating. So those delicate white flowers aren’t there to attract bees; they appear for other reasons. Maybe just to be beautiful 🩷❤

The scent varies too - a mix of honeysuckle and jasmine. Growing up in a coffee farm, that was always my favourite time of the year. To walk around the plantations with this beautiful smell.

Happy Sunday everyone 🌸☕

What is a Peaberry?

What is so different about these cute little uniform beans, and why do we love them?

Inside a regular coffee cherry, two seeds typically develop, with their flat sides facing each other and their rounded backs facing outward. These seeds, once processed and roasted, become what we know as coffee beans. A Peaberry, however, is a naturally occurring mutation where only one seed forms inside the cherry.

We personally find they have a little extra sweetness, which might be due to the extra mucilage that each little individual bean get to itself compared to a cherry with two beans. That’s not scientific though, it’s just our observation.

What do you think of peaberries?

We just published a little article talking a bit about it.
We thought we deserved a change of topic from pricing and other challenges 😉❤☕

🚢☕️ Brazil’s Coffee Exporters Face Huge Losses in 2024

Brazil lost a staggering USD 555.62 million in foreign exchange earnings last year due to delays and non-shipments of 1.826 million bags of coffee! 🚢❌ Persistent issues with vessel schedules and frequent cargo rollovers led to 5,534 containers of coffee remaining stuck at the ports.

“Brazil is the country that transfers the highest percentage of FOB export prices directly to its coffee growers. However, port infrastructure limitations and shipping constraints reduce the flow of capital to people moving the coffee” said Eduardo Heron, Cecafé’s Technical Director.

The Port of Santos alone, which handles 68% of Brazil’s coffee shipments, faced 84% delays in December.

Let’s hope for smoother logistics ahead as the Port of Santos is being upgraded to allow better capacity and less delays.

Today the coffee market hit 440 c/lb, continuing its steady climb over the past year—reaching price levels we’ve never seen before.

So, what’s going on, and how might this impact you? Here’s a quick breakdown:

☕ Why is this happening?
A mix of tight supply, poor crop forecasts, and uncertainty around tariffs has shaken up the market. This has sparked a rush—roasters are locking in stock, and speculators are buying in hopes of turning a profit.

📈 What does this mean for you?
If you've already confirmed a contract with Bossa, you’re all set—those prices won’t change. For future purchases, the market will dictate pricing, whether it climbs higher or starts to cool down.

💰 Are Importers and Exporters cashing in on this?
Not at all. Coffee prices move with the market, and we don’t make extra margin when they rise. In fact, high prices make trading trickier since we need to secure more financing just to move the same volume.

Where the market goes next? No one really knows. But if you want to chat about pricing, trends, or just get a better sense of what’s happening, give us a call—we’re always happy to talk coffee!
