Torpado was founded in Padua in 1895. In the 1950s and until 1962, Torpado sponsored a team of professionals who participated in eleven editions of the Giro d’Italia. The Torpado wool jersey was blue with a black horizontal band. The Torpado team in the 1950s consisted of Bevilacqua, Brasola, Conterno, Dall’Agata, Defillippis, Favero, Gismondi, Giusti, Zamboni and most notably Cleto Maule and Aldo Moser, who rivaled Coppi and Magni arriving fourth and fifth respectively in the 1956 Giro d’Italia. Aldo Moser won two stages of the Giro. In 1955, Nino Defillippis won the sprinters jersey at the Giro d’Italia. Each rider’s frame was individually made, it started from the base frame Torpado and then modified according to the needs of the athlete. Big shout out to the organizers of La Viscontea for having me present. The atmosphere is fun and festive. The bikes are beautiful and there’s plenty of comradery amongst all the participants. The town itself is small and so parking is limited. Make sure to keep a look out for when next year’s registration opens. Most people don’t know how a mechanical cable pulled derailleur works, the purpose of adjustment screws, proper alignment, pulley wheel maintenance, etc. It’s just a lot easier if you can explain the sound you’re hearing to your mechanic if we can’t replicate it while the bike is in the stand. By far, my favorite ride of the year so far. If you’re up for the challenge, il Muro di Cà del Poggio has a median up hill grade of 12.7% with the steepest parts as high as a 19% grade. It’s only about 10 minutes away from the De Marchi botteghetta. As opposed to ceramic bearings that wear down quickly, the 1958 Campagnolo Gran Sport Bottom Bracket on the right has new steel bearings and new grease recently applied. The cones and cups have been cleaned, just like new. Known as the Model M “Tipo Giro D’Italia” this was Bianchi’s top of the line racing model for 1920. After 35 years in business Bianchi was the industry leader producing over 50,000 bicycles per year. Yet very few of these Model M’s per produced as they were very expensive and generally not for everyday urban use as compared with their numerous city bikes models like the D., P. and L. F.lli Combetto was a short lived producer of custom race bicycles made by the Combetto brothers, producing high end custom race bikes in post WWI Italy. The crank arm removal for a Campagnolo Athena vs Gran Sport are very different. The Campagnolo 11-speed Athena features the Power Torque system. The axel is a single piece fixed to the drive side crank. The drive side bearing is already locked in the axle in correspondence with the crankset, the other pre-installed in the left cup. It was designed as such for simplicity in crank arm removal. The 1958 Campagnolo Gran Sport is the very first crankset and square taper bottom bracket Campagnolo has ever designed. 1954 was the first year of the Nivea-Fuchs team. The team was formed when the Ganna team told Fiorenzo Magni, that it would not be able to continue and he gained the backing of the German cosmetics company Nivea to be the main sponsor of a new team. It was the first non-bicycle industry company team sponsor.
