I’ve mastered the art of eye contact + speaking up and pushing my way through the crowd! Survival of the quickest cappuccino. . 🍷 Ordering what I want – If I want a spritz or wine when everyone else is “behaving,” I’ll order it with a smile. Off days are for joy, and I’ll enjoy mine exactly how I want. . 👀 The stares – My fiancé is more than 20 years my senior, he’s white, and I’m Black (and yes… Black don’t crack 😉). The stares used to bother me, but now? I barely notice. Funny enough, he’s the one pointing them out while I’m unbothered. . I love the South of Italy and I’ll continue visiting… but let’s be real: loving a place doesn’t mean ignoring its flaws. . During this trip, we ran into a few service issues that really shouldn’t be happening in the year 2025: . 1️⃣ No seating at the ports while waiting for ferries — hours of standing in the heat. 2️⃣ Poor communication — our ferry back to Naples was over 5 hours late, and we only got one text update. The rest? We had to continuously bug our hotel concierge for information. 3️⃣ No visible representation — no staff, no signage, no timetable were available to tend to passengers. We all just stood around, confused. 4️⃣ Chaotic arrival — no proper taxi service at a major port, only unlicensed drivers approaching passengers. No safe, clear crossing to reach official taxis (if they even exist). These might sound like small things, but they’re basic modern expectations: seating, Wi-Fi, on-time transport, clear updates, and safe transit options. . .
