Yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful friend _jesshurrell ❤️

I’ve struggled to find the right words because it’s so hard to make sense of it all. She truly was one of life’s best – our interiors golden girl. Beautiful inside and out, and someone who lived life to the absolute fullest.

The outpouring of love for her says it all. She touched so many lives – whether you knew her in real life or through this app. A national treasure of interiors – influencing with heart, graft and over a decade of dedication. Long before viral reels and algorithms, she inspired us with her brilliant blog – witty beautiful writing, a magpie’s eye, and a bucket-load of style. A queen in every way.

I first met Jess after her best friend _carolmaxwell introduced us. She came to my house to feature me on her Gold is Neutral blog, under her famous “House Envy” section. I was so thrilled and honoured. When she arrived, she was everything and more than you could imagine – bursting with smiles and energy – and we just clicked. Interiors, fashion, the love of a good dance – we shared it all. To my delight, she lived just around the corner.

From then on, Jess took me under her wing with such generosity. She introduced me to people, invited me in, waved my flag, and showed me the ropes of the interiors press world with kindness that came so naturally to her. We laughed, we danced in the rain under umbrellas in King’s Cross, we shopped our hearts out, shared our love of Halloween (her parties were truly spooktacular), and of course she knew how to host a magical Christmas. There was even that unforgettable night standing inside a giant disco ball with dj_fattony_

She was tiny, yet one big sparkler – magnetic, fun, and one of a kind. She made everyone feel at ease wherever she went.

Rest in peace, lovely Jess. Thank you for your kindness, your light and your friendship. I am so grateful for you. I’ll miss having you just around the corner, I’ll miss seeing you light up my feed – and I’ll miss your sparkle more than words can ever say. ✨✨✨✨✨ 2025-09-18 22:51:22 .. 1,916 +2,400% 196 +202%
Last week was a whirlwind ✨ An incredible day at the beautiful kimptonfitzroy hotel for the ufurnishcom x metro.co.uk Home Awards. I was invited by UFurnish founder and all round powerhouse deirdremcgettrick (pictured) to be part of the incredible judging panel, and it was such a joy to present the Best DIY Creation award to Becky Russell surreyhousediy sponsored by the.furniture.edit Congratulations again, to you and all of the winners and runners up!

It was an absolute honour to be back on the judging panel this year – no easy task with the sheer amount of creativity, talent and passion in the entries.

These awards are such a special celebration of our interiors community – from homeowners to bloggers and content creators – all sharing real homes, clever transformations and the kind of before-and-afters that leave you speechless.

I loved catching up with so many familiar faces, meeting new ones, and chatting with some brilliant brands and sponsors too. Swipe for a ridiculous amount of selfies in all the excitement.

And finally, a huge thank you to ufurnishcom for having me and for pulling together another flawless event! 2025-09-08 22:56:18 Last week was a w.. 0 -100% 50 -23%
WARM & GROUNDED bedroom vibes 🤎

From our London apartments development project – this bedroom brings all the earthy tones for a calm, cosy and contemporary retreat for young professionals. Instantly welcoming, warm and full of character, with just that extra touch of luxury.

Plays on pattern, panelling and warm wood details echo the rest of the apartment inside and out – now all that’s missing is a good book, a cup of tea, and someone ready to call it home. MOVE ME IN quite frankly!

FIRST LOOK AT THE KITCHEN from our London flats development project

Love this open-plan space. The darker tones and patterned floor tiles subtly zone the kitchen area, giving the space definition while still feeling connected to the living space.

We chose a considered mix of materials – from higher-end tiles and detailed brass hardware to more cost-conscious cabinetry – to strike the balance between a developer’s budget and a higher-end look, steering well clear of bland.

A warm, contemporary palette of clean lines, walnut wood, muted green and touches of brass ties the kitchen into the open-plan reception, with colours and shapes that flow throughout the apartment.

It may be a landscape shot (and yes, Instagram isn’t always kind to those!) but I couldn’t resist sharing this one. ❤️

>> Swipe for the un-styled work-in-progress shots – from bleak to bliss once the sunlight came streaming in. Each floor has its own little twist or layout variation to keep things interesting.

New Project: FROM SHELL TO SHOWSTOPPER

Over the years, I’ve worked with many developers – but this project has been a real favourite.

New builds are the perfect blank canvas – pristine, but often crying out for personality. Over the past 18 months, I’ve been working with a developer who loves colour, texture and style (yes, they do exist!) as a design consultant – transforming these spaces with layers of texture, pattern and playful touches to make each flat feel fresh, fun and full of energy.

These 1- and 2-bed London apartments for young professionals were designed to be anything but bland. From refining layouts to designing bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms, adding storage, panelling details, and creating colour and materials palettes, through to styling the final rooms for marketing – we worked closely together to create a sense of interest and flow throughout the building.

Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing more – from bare bones to fully styled spaces, ready to wow.

MEANINGFUL DESIGN… that was just meant to be

You know I love to chat on about the design story – the how, what, and most importantly… the why. So here’s a good one for you.

There’s so much love, thought (and yes, obsessive sourcing) that goes into every design. It’s never just about what looks good – or what fits the scheme. It’s about finding pieces our clients truly connect with. The ones they’ll still love in ten years’ time.

And sometimes, you get to know a client so well… you just know. That gut feeling – “they’re going to love this” – before you’ve even hit send. (And yes, I get very excited when that happens.)

This lounge was all about cocooning, escapism, and bringing in my client’s love of Japan in a way that felt rich, personal, and grown-up.

Then I found the mural.
Big investment. Bold choice. Tiny sample.
But I just knew. Sent it over, heart all excited...

And the magical bit… she was in Italy visiting a friend – and happened to be staying literally just streets away from the incredible (and only one worldwide) wallanddeco showroom!

She sent me some snaps (SWIPE>>):
“I’ve just seen it in real life… I’m obsessed.”
Meant. To. Be. 🙌

We had it scaled to size, wrapped the whole room in it – and made sure every little bird landed in exactly the right spot. Because that’s the level of detail we love.

When it’s not just a room, it’s a story. And this one, it felt written in the stars. Love it when that happens!

BLAND TO BEAUTIFUL
A delightful little corner from our SW11 project. What was once a flat, featureless space is now full of purpose and personality.

We rehoused the piano to a more suitable spot, added bespoke joinery for both storage and styling, and brought in full-height panelling to add instant character and architectural interest.

Painted in a rich, saturated colour to bring it altogether – and just like that, this once-forgotten spot became one of the cosiest corners in the house. What do you think?

Outdoor kitchen… WITH A DIFFERENCE

Inspired by all those dreamy outdoor kitchens with built-in smokers, we wanted to bring a similar vibe to this garden – but tailored to our clients, who are all about proper BBQ (not smoking!).

Gas? Absolutely not. This one had to be charcoal – the real deal. And no wobbly BBQ stands here either. Instead, we designed a suspended BBQ grill, set into a steel-framed structure and then hung within a bespoke concrete worktop.

Because BBQs run much hotter than smokers (and aren’t insulated in the same way), this setup took some serious planning – from airflow and heat-proofing to all-important fire safety detailing. Let’s just say… there were a lot of site chats to get this one just right.

But super pleased with the result. A slick, seamless setup that works beautifully with the garden – with concrete tiles, soft planting and laid-back seating, made for long, lazy summer evenings. I’ve no doubt it’ll be sizzling again this weekend. Whatever it takes to make a client dream come true.
Happy Friday!

A cute bedroom for a proper little London lad, through and through – who lights up at the sight of a double decker and can name every car and digger on the street.

LAST DAY SCHOOL VIBES
A little corner of colour and curiosity for our brilliant, maths-loving young client.
We created cute corners in a space that’s just as inspiring for studying as it is for lounging (see more of his room in the previous post).

It was a brief filled with bold shapes, bright ideas, and brainy details – because clever can be cool too!

And on a personal note… it’s the last ever day of primary school for the youngest of my three.
The end of an era 💔
It’s going to be an emotional one today.

SCHOOLS ‘NEARLY’ OUT FOR SUMMER

This was one of the very first spaces I created for this family in our SW11 project – a bedroom for their amazing son with a brilliant brain and a big love for mathematics. So much so, he wanted it everywhere!

I designed a bespoke mural wallpaper, filled with numbers and equations to keep him curious and inspired.

He was so happy with the result – and when he told me, “I’ll never grow out of this – I’ll always love maths,” my heart just about burst. 💛 You just can’t beat a happy little client.

We brought in bright accents to keep things light and lively – with playful lines and geometric touches running through the cushions from christina_lundsteen and the lighting from rockettstgeorge.co.uk pulling the whole concept together beautifully.

SW11 Project — PART TWO
Following on from yesterday’s post… here’s another view from the other side of the epic basement transformation in our SW11 project.

My clients had done an incredible job with the digging and creating this mega space – but felt it was still missing something: feeling.

Swipe for the befores and a few ‘what we did during’ moments.

We turned this end into a family-friendly cinema snug – zoning the huge space, adding walls and doors to shut away the noise and play, and bringing in big, comfy sofas to bed down on.

As always, it’s all in the planning.
The Pelotons? They now live in a fully thought-through gym zone at the opposite end. Relocating them freed up space, defined purpose, brought in more light, and made way for a much more generous, well-considered gym area elsewhere. (More on that another day!).

And that walnut panelling? Giving all the warm, mid-century-inspired, timeless vibes. We love it so much.

Being a basement with limited natural light, it was a balancing act of warmth yet still light. We layered warm neutrals in with the warmth of the wood and soft texture to keep it cocooning – without ever feeling heavy or enclosed.

Now it’s a true family hangout – but with a sophisticated edge.

No more ‘basement of doom’ – just a space to feel proud of. ❤️

SW11 Basement – PART ONE

Excited to share a first peek at the basement of our SW11 project.

Swipe for the before and during ‘what we did’ moments for more perspective.

As you’ll see from the BEFORES – this was a mega space with so much potential, but no clear sense of purpose. An epic free-for-all.

Part TV room, part games den/playroom, part gym, part office, part utility…
but one big open-plan blur.

My client felt completely stuck.
How do you make a space like this:
– Feel cohesive?
– Less flat and more full of life?
– Organised?
– Warm, cosy and just that bit more luxe?

We did what many might shy away from – we closed things down. We zoned. We sectioned. We added doors, walls, screens and built in glorious bespoke storage.

We layered in wood, texture, greenery… and purpose, and honestly, we couldn’t love this space more. ❤️

See the more on this transformation tomorrow.

Currently: life = 97 tabs open, 4 coffees deep… and somehow still planning a renovation.

A million drawings, sourcing missions, and big decisions for our own upcoming changes. (Typical designer problems – always making time for everyone else’s home before your own 🙃)

For now, you’ll mostly find me in our bathroom sanctuary – the one space I can count on staying (relatively) untouched.

Grateful for this little slice of calm at home. Long live the bathroom sanctuary.

More coming next week on project updates!

Take a little tour of the principal bedroom from our SW11 project…

A gorgeous, cocooning, layered space (with the most amazing rug) that leads through to a peek into the ensuite (see more of that in my previous post).

While every project is shaped around a client’s brief, it’s always such a joy to work with someone who truly connects with your style. And every so often, there’s that extra spark – a real meeting of minds.

This was one of those projects. The trust, the shared vision… when that clicks, it’s magic. The energy, the excitement – I just love it when that happens, and it’s exactly why I love what I do. ❤️

BEAUTIFUL BATHROOM SCENES from our SW11 project.

The ensuite to the principal bedroom – a big, open-plan bathing and shower space with timeless tones and understated elegance. Designed for everyday indulgence.

Details: We carried the dusky pink panelling tones through into the wall tiles, wrapping the room to unify the bath and shower areas and create a connected flow throughout the space. Swipe>>

NEW PROJECTS DOWNLOADING…
Introducing a corner of our SW11 project – a space that’s had the loveliest transformation.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with the most wonderful family across their entire home, over several carefully considered phases. The brief for this room was to take it from bland to beautiful – warm, inviting, grown-up, and rich in layered texture.

My client still loved the shape and comfort of her existing sofa, so we reupholstered it in something sumptuous. With a rich and saturated palette, we added wall panelling and layered in vintage finds to bring some heart and soul to the space.

Swipe for the before. >> More to come soon. Watch this space.

PROJECT PEEKS 👀
Life’s been full-on lately, and it’s been a while since I shared some of the dusty details behind the scenes.
Before I start revealing some shiny new projects later this week, here’s a little peek at what we’ve been knee-deep in across various client projects. It’s all in the details – and I always say, the journey is just as lovely as the result (even with a layer of dust ✨).

IT’S CLEMATIS SEASON 🌸 So it feels only right to round off my little flow of gorgeous girls’ bedrooms I’ve designed with my all-time favourite – my daughter Bo’s secret garden dream room.

We created this space a few years ago now, but honestly, it still feels just as magical today. A dreamy blend of florals, vintage finds, soft drapery, and layered loveliness that’s aged really beautifully.

Bo’s always been drawn to that romantic, coquette style – think pretty flowers, bows, and whimsical dreams – so instead of growing out of it too quickly (every mum’s fear after the investment!), she’s only grown to love it more and more. This makes me VERY happy. 💕

There’s something timeless about a room that sparks imagination and offers an escape from the everyday.

From the hand-painted Clematis mural we couldn’t love more, to the swing made for singing and dreaming – it’s a space that’s grown with her, not away from her. And that’s always my aim for every child’s room I design.

Scroll to see the real Clematis from my garden, snapped just yesterday. It doesn’t last long, but while it’s here… it’s blooming lovely. 🌸

I am off to Grand Designs Show today. Anyone else? Will share a few highlights later on Stories.

Happy weekend!

SUN’S OUT, FUN’S OUT! ☀️

Say hello to the sister bedroom from my last post 👉🏻
This one’s bursting with bold, fresh, and fun vibes – just what our teen client dreamed of. Here’s how we brought it to life:

> A seriously cool bed setup
> Zesty graphic wallpaper paired with bold shapes in the bed and furniture
> A fresh mint and lemon colour palette (obsessed with this combo!)
> Bespoke wardrobes packed with personality
> A study space that doesn’t suck the joy out of homework
> A cosy corner to read and relax

Both sisters started with identical rooms – same size, same shape – but we made sure each had its own unique twist to reflect their unique personalities.

(If you missed the first sisters bedroom, head back to my last post!)

Which detail’s your fave? I’d love to know!

Giving all the Friday feels with one of my favourite teen bedroom makeovers to date. This space is a total mood-lifter. If you’re having a butter yellow moment (me too), this one’s for you – layered with soft pink for the perfect combo, and a pop of red for that unexpected twist. Proof that colour, pattern, and contrast can bring instant joy.

Now that’s enough to give any teenager something to smile about in the morning. 🙌

WHAT DOES A MINI HEATWAVE MEAN?
Garden time, darling. Obviously.

When the sun’s out, the garden’s on. And this corner? It wasn’t always this dreamy - swipe for the before.

We opened up the back with a big, beautiful Crittall window and doors to let the light flood in, then ran the Kit Kat tiles from inside to out for that seamless flow.

Built-in planters bursting with grasses and wraparound floating bench seating transformed it into the perfect spot for morning coffees, lazy lunches, or golden hour spritzes.

A sun trap sanctuary for our clients that works just as hard as the interiors.

And yes… I’m obsessed!
