Sharing this experience with my mum for her special birthday made it unforgettable. We woke up in an overwater villa with a private pool, spent a morning at the spa, took a sunset cruise and had dinner cooked right in front of us. We even watched rays glide past our villa, memories I’ll hold onto forever.
But it was the little things that meant the most. Sitting together every evening at sunset, chatting about past times and future plans. Teaching mum to snorkel and watching her amazement at every new thing we did. Those moments were truly priceless.
None of these things would have been possible without novamaldives making our special trip even more special with the boutique feel, the incredible service and how personal everything felt from start to finish.

Here’s what we got up to:
🚶♀️ Strolled along the waterfront at leedsdock and visited the Royal Armouries

🍽️ Lunch at canary.bar by the dock
⛴️ Took the water taxi into town
🏛️ Explored the Victorian arcades, browsed the Corn Exchange leedscornex with its striking 19th-century architecture and independent shops, and wandered through Kirkgate Market which is one of the largest indoor markets in Europe
🍸 Rooftop drinks at azotealeeds at our hotel hyattplacehyatthouseleeds
🍴 Joined a food tour with leedsfoodtours which is a great way to try lots of places in one evening. My favourite stop was neoncactus
⛰️ Took a 30 minute train to Ilkley and walked to the Cow and Calf Rocks on Ilkley Moor for those sweeping views
🥪 Lunch at friendsofham
🧁 Stopped at bettys in Ilkley, for one of their famous fat rascals
🏞️ Visited boltonabbeyestate, 15 mins by taxi/bus from Ilkley Station, with its 12th-century ruins by the River Wharfe and beautiful walking trails and stepping stones
🥩 Finished the trip with dinner at oxclubleeds

🎭 Fringe – over 3,300 shows in just 25 days (and even the streets turn into a stage) → edfringe

I finally ticked off one of the most jaw-dropping walks in the South West and it’s even more magical in person.
Here’s what makes it so special:

Step into 250 years of British history at this incredible museum. From canal boats and coal mines to fish & chips fried in beef dripping, this place brings the past to life like nowhere else.
Some of my favourite things:
🧼 Wandering through cast iron homes with floral wallpaper and black-and-white TVs
🎶 Browsing records in a 1950s shop
🍬 Picking up sweets that reminded me of childhood
🏫 Visiting an Edwardian classroom where the cane still waited on the desk
🍟 And of course, proper fish and chips wrapped in paper
🎡 We even ended the day in a vintage fairground with penny slots, a ghost train and gallopers (that’s what they’re traditionally called in the UK, not a carousel) magical, musical, and full of charm
You can even go down a mine to experience life as a coal miner in the 1850s.

This pastel village perched on the North Wales coast was designed to look like the Italian Riviera, and it really does. It was the lifelong vision of architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, who spent over 50 years building it to prove that architecture could enhance the landscape, not ruin it.
The result? A dreamy mix of domes, towers, gardens and coastal views that’s been used in films, TV shows and music videos, but somehow still feels like a hidden gem.
We spent the afternoon exploring the colourful lanes and sitting by the estuary, soaking in the stillness. It’s one of those places that leaves you feeling like you’ve been far away, even if you haven’t.
🧾 Entry costs around £18 for a day ticket, and you can also stay overnight in one of the historic cottages or boutique hotels within the village.

Hiking through cork oak forests, swimming in emerald pools and feeling like I’d completely disconnected, this day was one of the most peaceful moments of my recent trip.
Pozo Negro was the standout for me. the deepest natural pool in the Region of Valencia. Very cold, completely clear and the most refreshing way to end a hike.
This area feels like a true hidden gem and it’s only a two-hour flight from the UK. So definitely one to add to the bucket list.

I had four hours in the city and didn’t want to waste it rushing between sights.

Only an hour from Nantes, a short flight from the UK and you can be in the most immersive theme park in Europe and there’s not a ride in sight. Over twenty live shows, immersive villages, walkthroughs and 6 themed hotels - we were completely blown away with our stay.
The sheer quality and scale of each show was just mind-blowing and the mix of cinematic production and epic music, played on all of the emotions. The shows are easily translated to English via the app which you can download to your phone and listen with headphones - it’s that easy!
If you’re looking for a really reasonable unique family getaway or trip with friends or partners then this is it!

This was actually my twelfth time visiting Universal Orlando with Luke, a place that’s been a big part of our travel story over the years. But this visit was different.

I’ve wanted to visit this spot for years, and I finally made the walk. The path was surprisingly easy, leading to a place of real natural beauty.
With stunning crystal-clear waters and mountain views, it’s a spot that truly takes your breath away. And yes, you can swim in the pools it’s a perfect spot for wild swimming.
If you’re planning a trip to the Lake District, this is one to add to your list.
* 📍 Parking: Gates Garth Farm Car Park (CA13 9XA) – £4 for 24 hours (cash only).
* 🥾 Walk Length: Approximately 1.3 km (0.8 miles) each way, apx 20 minutes to the first infinity pool but you can continue the trail further to see more.
* 🌿 Trail Info: Well-defined gravel path with a gentle incline, suitable for most fitness levels.
* 💦 Highlights: Beautifully clear waterfalls and panoramic views back down through the mountains to Buttermere Lake.
