Contador Gran Fondo 🇪🇸

After being in bed for two days before this event with a bad cold, my aim was just to get round. My breathing was not as easy as normal, but with the stunning views I couldn’t not enjoy it. 

Got an unexpected Coll de Rates PB & came 9th women so I’m super happy with that & not sure how that happened!

Proud to be representing the camscycling team ❤️

Some new toys 🗺️🔋 to help with training for my next big challenge 🚴‍♀️

Garmin Edge 850 & Garmin Rally RS210 

🔥 You can set up a power guide which is super helpful for hitting targets whether that be a steady ride or a fast one. Recovery ride was on the plan me for & having my Edge tell me if I was pushing too hard really helped, I often find it challenging to take things slower so the reminders were fab. 

⛽️ Smart fuelling provides customized alerts for carbohydrate intake and hydration during a ride, based on your personal fitness, course demands, and environmental factors like heat and humidity. I’m looking forward to testing this out more on longer rides. 

🔋 Also soo glad the pedals are plug in to charge, no more swapping batteries 🙌 full charge = 90 hours riding. 

Edge850 (like a mini version of the Edge 1050) has 36hr battery life on low power mode & 12hr on normal mode👌

I’ll reveal all about next years plans soon 🤍

Weekend well spent 🏕️ tailfincycling Detours event 

The idea of the ride was that the biggest detour to the campsite wins, taking in as many checkpoints as possible on route. But only one check-point was mandatory, Gospel Pass (which was also serving homemade chilli 😍) so there was the option to do a shorter, but still very hilly ride. 

Usually I’d be aiming for the longest ride possible, but this weekend I decided to take the shorter route & enjoy time with a cycling bestie. 

Carrying our two-person tent, sleeping bag & all the essentials on my bike, meant it defo wasn’t as easy ride 🏕️ we enjoyed a steady pace, laughed at rogue sheep, tackled some off-road, pushed our bikes up a climb that was too steep to ride, got drenched in the rain, appreciated the bursts of sunshine, devoured a post ride curry, felt mesmerised by the stars & inspired by the stories from other cyclists ✨

This ride was just what I needed, it reminded me how grateful I am for the cycling community and brought me such contentment, which is what I’ve needed this last few weeks. I’ve been in a bit of a dip and this weekend has helped so much ~ you appreciate things more on the bike. 

Thank you so much tailfincycling for having us along and for the bags that kept all my stuff dry despite the torrential downpours & them being as full as possible! & thanks to everyone that was part of the ride, it was so lovely to meet like-minded people 🤍

Today is National Suicide Prevention Day 

How often do you check in on those you’re close with? 

If you can today, send a message to someone to let them know how much they mean to you. Even better arrange to meet for a chai or coffee. One message can make the world of difference to someone struggling. You don’t need to know what to say, just being there for someone is enough. 

If you’re struggling, tell someone, talking is the first step to things getting better & it’s not as scary as you think. You can find your happiness again even if it feels impossible right now. 

I have cycling to thank massively for being here today 🚴‍♀️ but it’s been a lot of other things too 🤍

Things that might help: 
✨ Exercise ~ whether it’s a ride, run, gym session or walk I always feel better afterwards 
✨ Letting it out ~ either telling someone or writing it down 
✨ Positive mantras ~ “I can & I will get through this”, “tomorrow might be better”, “I’m stronger than this and I can enjoy life” 
✨ Feel good music ~ put some upbeat positive tunes on 
✨ Watching funny videos ~ something that makes you smile 
✨ Imagining a calm & happy place 
✨ Counselling ~ Talking to someone who isn’t close helped me 
✨ Community ~ going to a support group or joining a local running / cycling club 
✨ Having an aim ~ I always find having an event or challenge entered is good for motivation 
✨ You can’t control your thoughts but you can control how you react to them 
✨ Be grateful for the little things ~ food in the fridge, a home, fresh bedsheets 
✨ Making time to do something you enjoy ~ even when you feel like you can’t enjoy anything or don’t have any motivation to do it, you might feel better for giving it a go 
✨ Having hope ~ whether this comes from being inspired by others stories, or from within, hope that things will get better was enough to keep me going through the hard times

The more we talk openly about this, the more people that can get help. 

Struggling with your mental health is not something to be ashamed of - we’re human 🤍 some days will be bad but that makes the good days feel so much better. Keep going 🫶 Life can be fun when you let it be 🎉

Lactate threshold testing, getting a baseline ✔️

Hill climb effort 🚴‍♀️ Weaver Hill ✔️ 

This climb isn’t a significant one, not that many people have done it. But to me it is, it was the first proper climb I did back when I started cycling, I love how peaceful it is at the top & whenever I go up there I feel grateful to be able to enjoy it with a healthy mind now. 

Today I got the QOM 🎉

It felt extremely hard going up there as fast as I could, all I could think about was my breathing and pushing the pedals. But that’s why I fell in love with cycling. Only being able to think about my breathing gave me an escape from the endless torment going on in my mind back then. It made me feel something when at times I felt nothing. The climb today felt just as hard as when I first did it, but my mind is much happier - that will always be my biggest achievement. 

It’s true that climbing never gets easier, but if you put the miles in, you get faster - so you can have more time at the cafe 🎉

Love the simplicity of putting my trainers on & running
