- Comment “NYC” to get my free travel guide to visiting NYC at Christmas with kids! I decided to take a quick 48-hour trip to New York City this past December to get one last trip out of my southwestair Companion Pass which expired at the end of the year. I took just my 4-year-old this time since my other kids had school and sports, but I’m already planning a return trip next year to bring more of the kids because we loved it so much! We stayed at the holidayinnexpress Times Square South because it was one of the more affordable last-minute booking options and served free continental breakfast. Here are some of the best things to do and see in NYC with kids during the Christmas season: 🎄Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree ✨Bryant Park Winter Village 🎅🏼FAO Schwarz 🎼 See the Rockettes at the Radio City Christmas Spectacular ⛸️ Go Ice Skating at Wollman Rink in Central Park 🍫Get the fancy hot chocolate from the S’mores N’more stand at the Bryant Park Winter Village ✨Window Shop on 5th Avenue 🎄New York Public Library 🚂 Go to the New York Transit Museum located in Grand Central Terminal to see the Holiday Train Show. 🎄Eat at Papillon Bistro to see the crazy Christmas decorations! There’s definitely more to do, but this is what we were able to fit in with a day and a half, a stroller, and rainy weather. I’ll definitely be back for more! What would you add to this list?
- KNOW BEFORE YOU GO TO HALLSTATT ⤵️⤵️⤵️ Hallstatt deals with over tourism, so I highly recommend 2 nights in the area. We only stayed one night, and I regretted it. The surrounding areas, like Obertraun, are beautiful, too! Support the local economy, take your time, and try to avoid the day trip crowds midday. We stayed in nearby Obertraun. Our hotel was called Seehotel Am Hallstättersee and we loved it! We got 2 quad rooms -next to each other but not connecting. They had a wonderful breakfast included in the cost of the hotel, and it’s just a few minutes outside of Hallstatt. Views were incredible. Things to do in Hallstatt: 📸 take a photo at the iconic panoramic viewpoint at the top of the hill with views of the entire city 🛍️ shop at the souvenir shops ☕️ eat at local cafes. We liked Simple 169, a cafe with incredible Schaumrollen (cream rolls…kind of like a cannoli) 🌺 check out the Market Square - so charming! I grabbed a spot on the bench while some family members were shopping for souvenirs and just took in the view 🦢 Stroll along the waterfront and check out the swans! 🛝 Go to the Spielplatz Hallstättersee which is a playground at the opposite end of town from the panoramic viewpoint. It’s quiet, and it has a great view of the town without all the pushing and shoving crowds. 🚡 You can also take a funicular up to the Hallstatt Skywalk (which we skipped because we were on a budget), but it’s supposed to have amazing views! 🏔️ Hang out in Obertraun
- COMMENT “POTTER” TO RECEIVE MY FREE GUIDE TO SCOTLAND WITH KIDS Here are some of our favorite Harry Potter Experiences in Scotland: 1. Victoria Street - the inspiration for Diagon Alley 2. Magical Afternoon Tea at Department of Magic 3. Greyfriar’s Kirkyard - the cemetery where JK Rowling would go for walks while she was writing the Harry Potter series. She found inspiration for the names of some of her characters from the headstones in the graveyard. 4. FREE Harry Potter walking tour through Edinburgh. 5. Museum Context - a gift shop where you can buy Harry Potter merchandise 6. Elephant House - the original Elephant House is one of the places where JK Rowling is said to have worked on the Harry Potter books. The original was destroyed in a fire, but there is a new venue on Victoria Street where you can buy butterscotch beer (butter beer). 7. JK Rowling’s handprints in Edinburgh 8. Glenfinnan Viaduct - the Hogwarts Express bridge filming location where you can watch the Jacobite Steam Train cross the viaduct. 9. Ride the Hogwarts Express (The Jacobite Steam Train) 10. See Dumbledore’s Grave from the train or visit it in person if you are renting a car. It’s on a small island in the middle of Loch Eilt. All the information for these experiences is in my travel guide, so comment POTTER to have it sent to your inbox!
