ADD TO CART 🛒 - QUALITY BASICS FIRST ACCESSORISE NEXT.

All skincare regimens start same way.
AM routine - Cleanse & Protect
PM routine - Cleanse& Treat/Restore.
The quality basics being the first 3 here.
1. Cleanser - choose your cleanser based on texture preference and your skin type .Use this morning and night.
2. Moisturizer - Non-comedogenic, based on your skin type & weather ( humidity).
3. Sunscreen - minimum SPF 30/40 in Indian skin type.
4. Look for the words broad spectrum/ UVA/UVB on the label.Apply two finger lengths on face& neck ( includes around eyes and ears too!) . Dont forget your hands feet and exposed parts.
5. Treatment actives( better under supervision of your dermatologist)- this is the part customised to your specific concerns. Look for the most troubling concern . A) HYPERPIGMENTATION - consider Retinoids, KOJIC acid, Tranexemic acid, Vit C, alpha arbutin etc B) DRYNESS-glycerin,oatmeal,ceramides, squalene. C) BREAKOUTS - Sailcylic acid, Retinoids,Benzoyl peroxide D) REDNESS - Liquorice ,green tea extract. E) BRIGHTENING - Retinoids, Antioxidants ( Vitamin C ,CoQ10, green tea etc). F) Aging gracefully- Sunscreen , Retnoides, antioxidants & Peptides.

Skincare is ultimately a long game.
Start with basics first .
Be consistent.
Be informed.
Be patient.

Cleansing can be the make or break of your skincare routine
Why?
Because if your are using a cleanser that is too harsh or ineffective in removing the dirt and grime - you are bound to get irritation and skin issues + also wasting the product &money.

Until a decade back I wanted a cleanser that would make my skin squeaky clean which I thought was a good thing and which meant the cleanser was working well.
I WAS WRONG!!

The tight feeling after cleansing can mean disruption of skin barrier which can be due to
1.Cleanser being too alkaline for example - soap bar
2.Cleansing for too long and with excessive force
3.Drastic changes in the climate( what you find good in summer may not be the case in winters ).

Okay let me keep it simple...
Use a cleanser which says Gentle cleanser or Hydrating cleanser.
Use a cleanser 2-3 times a day
Cleansers for oily skin available in the market can be harsh sometimes since they try to strip away oils along with your skin barrier.
So just stick to a basic “gentle cleanser”.

When it comes to food, knowing the details matters.
For example Cold coffee , Pizzas , Burgers.
Let’s look at the same cold coffee in 3 different places.
Scenario 1:
The cold coffee you prepare at home.
Ingredients: instant coffee powder+Milk+Ice+ 2 tsps sugar.
Sweet enough. Total calories < 150.

Scenario 2:
The espresso shot ( if you are an expresso person)
Ingredients: Expresso shot + ice +\-milk +\- sugar.
Sweet enough. Total calories <100

Scenario 3:
‘Cold coffee’ at most coffee chains.
Ingredients: Sugar syrup + whipped cream+ chocolate syrup +milk + ice + some coffee .
So that’s around 8-10 tsps of sugar.
Total calories > 300.

Therefore remember food like Burgers , Pizza,Cold coffee can be Healthy or extremely Unhealthy based on the ingredients used in making them.

Food made with healthy nutritious ingredients gives satiety and you would not want to binge eat while Junk food ( food with empty calories and no nutrition) makes you crave for more.

Allow me to answer some basic Q&A.

❓Who am I
A Board certified dermatologist with 9 years experience in the field of Dermatology(Skin,Hair & Nails)

❓Why I do what I do
To try and be the reason someone smiles .

❓What am I doing on Instagram
Trying to impart basic skincare knowledge to everyone without being biased to brands , without any marketing strategies ,without glorifying the concept “perfect skin “, being real and giving a scientific approach to the best of my knowledge and ability in dealing with all your concerns.

❓Why is it important for doctors to embrace social media
*To put forward the right information .
*Helps to avoid a lot of confusion and misinformation about Basic skincare, real v/s filtered skin, skincare products and application.
*Saves people their hard earned money - prevents unnecessary expenditure on skincare products .

❓What I don’t like about Instagram or any social media platform ?
❗️That any person can their advice out in the open without having any credentials or even a basic education in that particular field.
🔅This has so far led to many serious medical problems since people blindly follow their influencers.
❗️No I am not against any influencer . Just requesting you to gain sufficient knowledge before you preach.
❗️Because I will be one of the many #doctors who will be treating those who have suffered at the cost of doing what many so called skin #influencers preach.

Picking the skin is an act that relieves anxiety. A common trigger is looking at the skin’s imperfections and then feeling anxious or depressed.
Picking may also be triggered by very stressful events.

Think problems with a marriage, death of loved ones, exams, job interviews, you get the picture. Can you identify with picking your skin more when you’re under more stress than usual?

If you can, you’re not alone.

Picking can give you a sense of control over a condition that is making you feel powerless. It’s a pretty common practice.

Did you know there’s even a condition called excoriation disorder that’s characterized by the repeated urge to pick at one’s own skin, which results in tissue damage?

The official name it has been given is “dermatillomania.” It has been classified as an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

There have been cases where some have picked their skin to the point of requiring skin grafts! Now that’s some pretty serious OCD.

Is dieting a good option?

Sure you want to quickly lose some fat to fit into that gorgeous outfit for D-day.

The idea of eating just soups and salads for a definite period can lead to multiple deficiencies which can lead to Hairfall, Hormonal imbalances,Acne (hormonal ), Dull skin, energy crashes and much more.

Yes ✅ foods like salads and in general all vegetables are very important for a weight loss diet since they provide necessary vitamins, fibre, nutrients and satiety to keep you full for a long time.
❌ But they cannot be your complete diet in itself.

With this you will lose weight faster but will also gain it faster!
Because the weight loss is predominantly water and muscle loss and NOT fat loss.

✅ Along with vegetables you also need enough energy (Carbohydrates) and proteins for optimum health.

We know by now that white sugar is bad for health.

But how safe and nutritious are the replacements?

Brown Sugar = white sugar + molasses
It has the similar glycemic index and the caloric density too.
So next time you add that brown sugar in your beverages..thinking that it is healthier...remember that it is just a change in colour and texture.
As usual ,Marketing gimmicks!

Honey : famous for its medicinal benefits in digestion , cough etc
Tats true since it does have trace elements of micronutrients.
But to reap those benefits one needs to consume honey in such large doses that it fails to serve your fitness purposes.

Jaggery : Please note that Jaggery also has similar Glycemic index and calorific density but in terms of nutritional benefits it does take a lead among the 3 .
So if you replace your entire sugar intake with jaggery in a day say around 25gms per day , you will get 10 % of your magnesium and potassium + 15% of your Iron requirement for THAT day.

So what’s the best sweetener to achieve your fitness goals and to prevent those hormonal imbalances such as PCOS , Pre diabetic & Diabetic stages?

NONE!

Let’s be aware of some basic rules for healthy skin.
None that we haven’t heard before. But very easily overlooked .

Tag your friends/loved ones who would benefit from being reminded of this seemingly harmless habit but a SKIN SIN.

The most common question in my DMs.
What is the best sunscreen for my skin type?
What is the best sunscreen in the market currently?

The best sunscreen doesn’t exist!

People have different skin types .
Therefore people like different finish, different texture ,different ingredients and different budgets too!

So the answer would be ....Whichever you are comfortable in wearing everyday and in reapplying every 3 hours.

Still confused?
Then meet your dermatologist in person or consult online and discuss your skin type and concerns before buying one.
