![elio was a turning point. after an especially dark period of my life, everything got better once we adopted elio. he simultaneously brings so much lightness and so much groundedness. if i could point out one thing that stands out most about him, it would be the way he is so at ease. elio has this deep sense of belonging in the world. from the day we brought him home, even as a 1 pound 14 ounce kitten, he exuded confidence. this is definitely not his first rodeo, as they say. he’s famous for finding the best hiding places, for jumping out our second story apartment window and landing on his feet, for making a bed out of literally every object in our home. he’s the best cuddler, the best big brother. finni has been obsessed with him since day one and to this day still follows elio around everywhere. when i was pregnant with tedros, elio would lie on my belly, lick my belly, put a gentle paw on my belly. when we brought tedros home, he immediately acted like tedros was his own baby. our ultimate protector. elio, my floofy orange boy, thank you for changing my life and for bringing me an incredible amount of joy every single day for the last 2 years. i love you beyond words!!! 🧡 choosing 20 photos out of the almost 7,000 i have of elio on my phone for this post was nearly impossible.]()

![i’ve always had a deep appreciation for mothers. stemming from the relationship i have with my own mother, which remains one of my most beautiful and cherished of all. i’m only 6 weeks into being a mother myself and my whole entire world has changed. the deep appreciation i had for mothers has deepened tenfold. i sit here in awe of all those who came before me. the silent, profound, challenging and life-giving work of mothering is truly incredible.
i’ve always dreamed of being a mother, but for a time i let that dream go based on the circumstances my life path had taken. to reconnect with that dream and reinvest in its pursuit was an expansive process that required me to walk through many fires and let certain parts of myself transform. getting pregnant and birthing my son was the most wild and magical experience of my life. and tedros is the most beautiful manifestation of my dream and all the work i put into making it so. thank you my darling boy for choosing me as your mother in this lifetime. i look forward to all the memories we are going to make together. i love you from the deepest part of my soul.
