My time in Türkiye don’t go quite as planned, but at least I enjoyed several Turkish breakfasts 😌

Island adventures in Nanaimo just got better thanks to hulloferries 🤗

In case you didn’t know, the high-speed ferry between Vancouver and Nanaimo is pet-friendly and allows for pets to sit inside with you 🙌🏼 The cats and I have rode the ferries several times now, and each trip has been quick, comfortable, and easy which is not something I say often when it comes to pet travel!

If you’re looking to try it out or book a trip of your own, you can use our code LIFEPAWS10 for 10% ⛴️♥️

The Island has always held a soft spot in my heart as we have family over there, and Hullo makes it even easier for us to stay connected. Bonus points because the cats love exploring the beach and forests over there, too. During our most recent trip, we walked around Nanaimo’s Old City Quarter, checked out locals cafes, and enjoyed some walks in the city’s many parks.

⭐️ Do keep in mind that pets must remain in their carrier during the boarding process and for the entirety of the ferry ride!! 2025-10-01 20:41:07 .. 149 -21% 5 +4%
Fall just started, and I'm already missing our summer adventures where the cats and I snacked on all the trails ☀️

Many times the cats got to enjoy some extra hydration from the gosolutions.petfood tetra paks or easy-to-carry booster pouches, and we even made sure to pack a few during our travels through Europe and as a mid-flight snack for the cats 🤭

Here's to all the fall adventures we'll have together even if it means snacking on slightly colder trails 🍂

Making meaningful memories even if I’m drenched in sweat 💦☀️

Even though many people warned against summer in Japan, I’m honestly so glad I went. I was a big fan of Japan’s summer festivals, and they were much more my vibe compared to the music festivals that friends invited me to in North America 😂 My appreciation for Vancouver’s “heat” also grew tenfold upon returning home lol 2025-09-09 23:53:19 Mak.. 85 -55% 0 -100%

Just a little Japan summer photo dump (probably one of many) 😂

The cats enjoyed a tasty treat and some extra hydration in the flower fields thanks to gosolutions.petfood 🤭

We love the new Go! Solutions Boosters that come in several flavours that help maintain cat health in various ways. Just like the tetra paks, I’m also really glad with how easy it is to bring along these packs these during day trips and mini adventures 🙌🏼

We also make it a habit to visit this flower field every summer, and this year it was just as gorgeous as ever. I’m only sad that I got there so late, so we couldn’t fully explore every corner 🌻

Thankful to be able to enjoy these last remnants of summer in Vancouver. The mild weather here feels like true luxury after getting scorched by Japan’s heat and humidity. Even though I love to travel, I’m still very glad to call Canada home ☀️🇨🇦 2025-08-27 02:55:09 Se.. 297 +58% 16 +233%
I fully expected the sun and was not prepared for multiple downpours to follow me around several prefectures ⛈️

No matter what season I visit Japan, I feel like I always get unlucky with the weather when it comes to seeing and attending seasonal events 🥹 I try to make the most of it regardless, but pleaaaase let the weather be on my side when I visit again for the fall foliage this winter 🙏🏼 2025-08-23 19:25:00 I fully expe.. 180 -4% 6 +25%
This was by far my favourite café experience from my latest trip to Japan 🌿

I honestly felt like I’d stepped into a Ghibli film and loved every part of this tranquil retreat. There were free books available outside alongside other trinkets for sale, views of the surrounding mountainside, locally made goods and produce on display, aesthetic and delicious meal sets, and of course the women running the shop were so kind and welcoming 😊

Don’t skip on this spot if you’re ever visiting Kumamoto and make sure to pair it with a trip to Reigando Cave. It’ll involve a bit of a journey and a trek, but the views of the countryside were lovely even in the scorching sun. One thing to note is that the bus comes every 1-2 hours, so you’ll want to properly plan your visit around the bus schedule if you don’t have a car.

A true hidden gem in Japan ✨

Historic vine bridges, thatched rooftops, lush mountains, and turquoise waters flowing through deep gorges greet you in the Iya Valley. Past the main tourist area, you’ll also find an intriguing scarecrow village alongside several scenic viewpoints. This is such a beautiful place and totally worth making a trip out to see if you’re near Tokushima Prefecture.

While becoming a more common tourist spot among locals, the Iya Valley is historically known to be a remote region that’s difficult to access. I actually didn’t encounter any other foreigners during my tour through the valley, and it’s likely because reaching the inner part of Shikoku Island requires some effort.

If you do plan on visiting, most likely you’ll be taking a limited-express train from Takamatsu to Ōboke Station. From there, you have the option to take one of the infrequent local buses or can try to request a cab.

Personally, I’d highly recommend visiting with a friend or two and booking one of the local 6-7 hour private taxi tours to truly enjoy all that the area has to offer, including access to the eastern vine bridges where only a handful of groups ever manage to make it.

Slowpoke is the official mascot of Kagawa Prefecture and he’s even got his own park 💖

The Japanese name for Slowpoke is Yadon which sounds similar to Kagawa’s famed udon. The prefecture really leans into showcasing Slowpoke as part of their tourism initiatives which I completely support 🤭

Kagawa has several Pokémon manhole lids featuring Slowpoke and there’s even a Slowpoke-themed train you can ride along the Kotoden Kotohira Line. If you’re truly a fan, you can also pick up pink Slowpoke udon noodles from the local convenience stores!

The Slowpoke Park is located about 50 minutes from Takamatsu by train, and you’ll want to exit at Ayagawa Station. From the station, there are signs that will lead you to the park in about 5 minutes.

Do note that while it’s a super cute park, it’s quite small and there really isn’t much else to see in the area. Also be mindful and avoid filming when children are playing on the playground.

I was beyond confused when the server went into detail about how to eat this special breakfast menu item only to then be left with an empty pot 🫢

At first I thought maybe it was a joke, but when no additional food arrived after several minutes, we realized we’d just been served an empty pot. The waitress didn’t seem to believe us until she lifted the lid herself and then her face was just stunned 😅

Others in the room overhead and were also curious, so when we explained what happened, we all had a good laugh. Of course a filled pot was eventually served and the restaurant made sure to offer an apology for the mix up.

If you’re in Kyoto this summer, don’t miss out on the Tanabata Sky Lantern Festival 🏮

Seeing the sky full of lanterns was beyond magical and I honestly almost started crying because it was so beautiful. My only complaint is that they only let us see the lanterns lit for more than 13 minutes and entry fees were a bit steep for such a short amount of lantern time 🥲

This festival runs from 5-9PM, but the lanterns are only allowed to be released at 8:30PM. There are live performances, mini games, and food trucks at the venue, but otherwise there’s not much else to do but wait for the expected release period. A few photo op stations were available as well.

The lanterns used are tied to strings that you hold, and you’re meant to return them by the end of the event rather than doing a true lantern release into the sky. Honestly I prefer this way since it seems more environmentally friendly and overall safe. 2025-08-09 21:30:51 If you’re i.. 453 +141% 7 +46%
Not even torrential downpour can stop Japan from putting on an amazing firework show 🎆🎇

Unfortunately, the rain can absolutely stop me from getting a good view 😵‍💫 I honestly hadn’t expected the show to be so grand with such strong rain, but I was sorely mistaken. I had actually given up the seat I spent 3 hours saving in order to escape the rain after getting completely drenched even with an umbrella. In the end, I only got to watch the fireworks from the road between buildings, the tops of umbrellas, and trees.. even then, the glimpses I saw were pretty cool and I’m just disappointed I couldn’t properly enjoy the show.

Now that I’m back at the hotel, I’m hoping my passport, camera, and other belongings all dry without being too damaged 😅 2025-08-08 19:33:42 .. 269 +43% 4 -17%
Proper hydration is also key for cats when it comes to urinary health, so we do all that we can to ensure the cats stay hydrated during the warmer summer months ☀️💦

The nutrience_ CARE Urinary Health wet food works great for my mom’s cat who has urinary issues but is also good for helping to prevent future urinary problems for Reinhardt and Perseus.

Nutrience is also easily accessible whenever we travel throughout North America, and I’ve also found it in some pet shops in Japan which makes feeding Reinhardt overseas even easier as he can be quite picky when it comes to food. 2025-08-06 20:03:19 Proper hydrati.. 114 -39% 1 -79%
