New podcast episode out! 🐝

It was a joy to spend the day with honey bee conservationist Matt Somerville (_beekindhives_) for September’s Found Sound for ffern.co’s podcast. We spent the day looking at Matt’s handmade log hives, chatting about his process creating them, and recording the sound of wild bee colonies (while I tried to hold my nerve).

I’m releasing a suuuuper limited run of cassette tapes of the soundscape I made for toast’s autumn winter collection, ‘The Curious Mind’! Available to pre-order via my bandcamp now (link in bio). If you just want to listen, you can also find the digital version there 😊

Over the weekend, the 26 minute piece was looped and played throughout 14cavendish, a beautiful Grade II* listed building in London, as part of toast’s launch of The Curious Mind

The soundscape consists of gentle field recordings, such as the sound of a ticking clock, pencil on paper, flicking through books, the crackle of a fireplace, with warm synthy sounds. Pop the soundscape on when you’re cooking, reading, in the bath, working, doing a puzzle, having a nap, and hopefully it’ll be the perfect accompaniment for chill times 🛀 2025-09-10 13:56:08 I’m r.. 124 -56% 8 -35%
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been working on a new soundscape for toast’s Autumn/Winter 2025 launch, The Curious Mind 🌿

From today, it’s playing throughout 14cavendish, a beautiful Grade II* listed building in the West End of London, alongside installations, talks, workshops and pieces from the new collection

You can also listen to the full soundscape on Bandcamp and pre-order it on a limited edition cassette! (link in bio)

The installation is open this Friday-Sunday - come by if you’re in London!

Also, a huge thank you to toast for gifting me this beautiful dress for the launch 😍

Return is now LIVE! 🦅

I’m very proud to have been part of this beautiful film with the rspb (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds). Stories of hope have never been more important.

Celebrating 50 years since the reintroduction of White-tailed Eagles to the UK, ‘Return’ follows the epic journey of this iconic species.

This new film shows that through collective action and a network of dedicated volunteers, conservationists and local communities, we can bring back what was once lost.

Watch breathtaking footage and hear first-hand the awe-inspiring stories from those who made this dream a reality.

Last Friday, I spent the evening at Summer Sounds at coaldropsyard in King’s Cross (kingscrossn1c), which is celebrating its 10th year. They’ve got an amazing range of music over the next week, all for free - including jazz, folk, indie, opera and more. If you’re in London, why not check it out! It’s on until Sunday 17th August.

Earlier this year, I spent a lot of time in the King’s Cross area, collecting field recordings of the urban nature and interviews with the people who look after it as part of my sound installation at kingsplacelondon. It was lovely to be back in summer, experiencing the buzzing atmosphere around the festival. Definitely a different atmosphere to the towpath in February!

In this episode, Lara takes us on a mudlarking walk, to find London’s lost and forgotten objects. We learn about Lara’s approach to mudlarking, some of her most significant finds and what the practice means to her.

I’ve got a new song out today! Listen now on Spotify, Apple Music & wherever else you listen to music 🌀

I wrote ‘A Seal Called Noon’ for tomrosenthal1’s podcast strangersonabench. For each episode, Tom asked a musician to write and record a song in response to a conversation he has with a stranger on a bench. He asked me to write one for his latest episode, a beautiful meandering conversation, that occasionally features a distant seal 🦭

Also, here are some nice pics from my holiday in Norfolk last week. The song features the sound of a seal I recorded a couple of years ago on the Norfolk coastline, so these pics feel fitting!

Hope you like the song 😊

Excited to share that I’ll be one of the brittenpearsarts Residency artists later this year 🌿

I’ll be spending a week in Suffolk developing a live version of Shifting Soundscapes—my project exploring how our natural soundscapes are changing. Excited (and a bit daunted!) to experiment and see where the work might go next.

Huge thanks to brittenpearsarts for the space and support. Can’t wait to learn more about the work of other brilliant artists too.

A lovely trip to Gloucestershire with alicevincentwrites and camilla_greenwell to record the nightingales

Nightingales are one of the UK’s most endangered songbirds due to habitat loss. rspb Highnam Woods is one location where they are preserving the habitat to ensure nightingales can keep migrating back each year. When we were there, there were only two male nightingales, calling out for female nightingales to join them

This track is inspired by a trip I took last spring, revisiting locations audio naturalist Martyn Stewart (the_listening_planet) had recorded approximately 50 years ago. I was documenting how the soundscapes had changed for my bbcradio4 documentary with fallingtreeproductions ‘Shifting Soundscapes’. One of those places was Bluebell Wood in Birmingham near where Martyn grew up - what was just pure birdsong in his recording was overwhelmed by planes and cars in mine. And that became the inspiration for this song

‘All We Are’ is part of soundsright_, a global initiative that’s made NATURE an official artist on streaming platforms. That means 50% of the track’s streaming royalties go directly to frontline conservation work
