Unfortunately, due to normalization of eating disorder behaviors in our diet obsessed society, I believe these numbers are even higher. There is so much to talk about here, but the statistics speak for themselves. Sending love to anyone who is struggling ❤️ Recovery is possible.

This week marks Weight Stigma Awareness Week.
.
According to the National Eating Disorders Association, weight stigma (also known as weight bias or weight-based discrimination), is discrimination or stereotyping based on a person’s weight. It is incredibly harmful for a person’s mental and physical health (lots of research to back this up!).
.
Weight stigma is often experienced in doctor’s offices, at work, at school, and even at home.
.
It is NEVER OK to comment on a person’s weight or food choices. #weightstigmaawarenessweek2020 #weightstigma #weightstigmaawarenessweek #mentalhealth#intuitiveeating#bodyrespect#bodykindness 2020-09-29 21:13:29 This week marks W.. 25 -71% 1 -88%

A few topics that have been on repeat during some client sessions this week.
.
The almond milk thing comes up a lot, but it was pretty disturbing to hear that my sisters “mom” Facebook group was talking about milk alternatives for their 1 year olds... not due to allergies, but because their kids “aren’t cows, so they shouldn’t be drinking cows milk” and they want to “reduce sugar intake” 😑😭🤦‍♀️. Well guess what? Your kids aren’t almonds either and almond milk isn’t actually milk. It is NOT an even swap and your child will be missing out on many important nutrients for growth at a CRUCIAL time in their lives. Also, there is NO added sugar in cow’s milk 🙄. Lactose is a naturally occurring sugar just like the fructose found in fruit. Plus, the second ingredient in most nut milks is sugar, soooo 💁🏼‍♀️
.
Milk is an easy, nutrient rich way to get enough protein and calories while also supplying calcium, vitamin D, potassium, and half the RDA for B12. Children have higher calorie, fat and nutrient needs, so PLEASE don’t let diet culture affect how you feed your babies!!!
.
If you have an allergy, of course you need a milk alternative and if you just love the taste of nut milk better, that’s fine too. Just remember it is not an even “swap” for milk (as many of my clients thought!). .

🍦Wasn’t particularly in the mood for ice cream since I was full from dinner. But, I joined my friend and after a few samples, decided I wanted some anyway. I finished almost half and felt 100% satisfied.
.
.
.
🍦There are no rules to intuitive eating. Some days you’ll eat past fullness. Some days you’ll eat less than usual. It’s all normal, but I think this sort of “unknown” can feel scary when you’re starting out. Dieting feels “safe” because there are rules and guidelines. There’s lists of foods to eat and foods to avoid. Tuning into your body and TRUSTING your body feels too abstract. But it’s not. And when you can tune in and trust your relationship with food, you can eat impromptu ice cream and enjoy every.single.bite. without freaking out.
.
.
.
🍦One way to cultivate more trust with your body is to do the hard sh*t. Eat the scary foods. Miss a few days of exercise. Challenge the thoughts that keep you from having freedom with food. And little by little trusting that your body would get through every challenge because it keeps proving that it will ❤️ .

{A REMINDER FOR YOUR MDW}

You do not need to “earn” your calories. Your body is a calorie burning machine and NEEDS to be fueled. Our organs are working hard everyday to do their job and when we don’t eat enough, they don’t eat enough. Our liver alone requires about 200 calories per day! {3 WAYS TO BE MORE ACCEPTING OF YOUR BODY (AND MAYBE EVENTUALLY LOVE IT ❤️)}
.
1. Buy clothes that fit your body NOW. There is nothing worse than having jeans digging into your skin or having buttons about to pop off your blouse as a constant reminder of how uncomfortable you feel (physically and mentally). Donate or sell those clothes and find some new ones that make you feel bad ass 😎. I like using poshmark tradesy and thredup to sell/donate my clothes. You can also buy items from these apps to save some cash on your new wardrobe 💰!
.
2. Purge your social media and follow people of all body shapes and sizes. It’s like Marie Kondo-ing your Instagram: “Does this person make me feel bad about myself?” 👉🏻 If yes, UNFOLLOW! If you’re into fashion accounts, look for more accounts that represent your body type.
.
3. Keep a gratitude journal 📔 I know it may sound corny, but according to science, client experience, and personal experience, it really works 🙏🏻 Have you tried any of these things? What has been most helpful for you to cultivate a better relationship with your body? 👇🏻 2019-04-29 18:18:51 .. 117 +37% 22 +161%
{What We Know}

1. Dieting is the #1 predictor of weight gain.

2. BMI is not a good indicator of health.

3. There is not one randomized control trial that shows sustained weight loss after 2 years. Not Keto, not Atkins, not WW, not calorie restriction.

4. People who practice intuitive eating have lower BMIs on average. HOWEVER, IE is not a diet and weight loss is never a goal.

5. Deprivation leads to overeating/binging.

{INSTANT POT MISO CHICKEN}

Couldn’t find a recipe for this, so I made it up 💁🏼‍♀️ I’m all about quick cooking, simple recipes during the week and this delicious concoction is only FIVE ingredients (including the chicken 🐓). I’m obsessed with ANYTHING miso, and it happens to be really awesome for gut health. Miso is a fermented food that adds beneficial microorganisms to your digestive tract. Did you know that our gut is now considered our second brain 🧠 ? We’ve only begun to understand the gut microbiome and I think it’s so fascinating 🤓 2019-04-06 20:33:59 .. 63 -26% 7 -17%

OK, so I burnt it a little 💁🏼‍♀️ But OMG it was still so good 👉🏻 Next time you make salmon, cover it in traderjoes Everything But The Bagel seasoning and pan sear in a hot pan 👌🏻 Also, very proud that I successfully roasted tomatoes in my Air Fryer.

{WHAT FOODS TO AVOID}

I get this question from clients often, so here’s my list in case it helps someone else ☺️ You shouldn’t eat any foods you’re allergic to, foods that are spoiled 🤢, or foods that you dislike. Green light on everything else.

Truth is, depriving yourself of foods you enjoy or labeling food labels as “good” or “bad” in order to lose weight or become “healthier” will eventually backfire. This is because over time restrictions lead to deprivation, cravings, and possible binging/overeating — which is exactly what will sabotage your weight loss efforts or attempt to improve your health.

Do you label foods as “good” or “bad”? Do you crave said “bad” food often? Are you always “watching” what you eat? If you’ve answered yes to any of those questions, chances are you’re depriving yourself of foods that you enjoy.

Worried about eating cake for breakfast everyday if you decide to allow yourself what you’re craving? Chances are, after a week or two or three, you’ll realize you’re not in the mood for it more and it won’t seem as forbidden or “special”. You actually might find that it doesn’t make you feel so good and you’ll explore other breakfast options that do 🍰🥑🍳 2019-03-22 19:47:14 .. 66 -23% 3 -64%
