🌸✨ DIY Eco-Friendly Ganpati Idols with Kids ✨🌸
Ganesh Chaturthi is about devotion, flowers, modak, and creating memories together 🌺🙏. For the last few years, Ohana and I have made our own Ganpati Bappa idols at home—simple, eco-friendly, and full of joy. Here are 3 favourites you can try with your kids 👇

🍊 1. Fruit Ganpati with Oranges
Things you need: Oranges, orange peel, toothpicks, cloves/black pepper.
How to make: Stack 2 oranges (body + head). Use orange slices for ears/hands. The highlight is the mukut (crown) made from orange peel 👑. Fix with toothpicks, add cloves or black pepper for eyes. Fun, edible, and eco-conscious!

🍌 2. Banana & Fruit Ganpati
Things you need: Banana, sweet lime, orange, grapes, toothpicks, cloves.
How to make: Place sweet lime as base, orange as head, and bananas as arms/legs. Add grapes as crown & ears. Secure with toothpicks, use cloves for eyes. A fruity Ganpati idol that kids love creating 🍇🍌.

🎨 3. 3D Tissue-Mâché Ganpati
Things you need: Tissue paper, foam sheet, glue, food colours/natural colours, paintbrush, black pepper.
How to make: Mix tissue paper with glue to form paste. Shape Ganpati Bappa on foam sheet. Paint with natural colours like turmeric, beetroot, or haldi-kumkum. Add black pepper for eyes. Bright, colourful & perfect for festive décor 🌱🎨.

✨ Why we love these DIYs:
✔ Kid-friendly & easy
✔ Eco-friendly & budget-friendly
✔ Builds lasting festive memories 🌸🍬

These are the Ganpati idols we’ve been making for the last few years. If we create something new this year, I’ll share it soon 💛.

Ganpati Bappa Morya! 🙏

Every morning, one question haunts parents: “What do I pack today?” 😫🍱
I struggled too — until I built a 5-day school tiffin rhythm that made my mornings calmer, my daughter’s lunchbox more balanced, and most importantly → she finishes her food! ✅

Instead of deciding from scratch every day, I stick to a weekly rhythm: fermented foods, shallow-fried bites, oven-baked/pancakes, sprouted dishes, and a Friday treat.
➡️ The result? Variety + balance, without the stress.

Earlier, Ohana carried only 2 tiffins. Now she takes 3 every day →
1️⃣ Snack 1: from the menu in this post + fruit
2️⃣ Lunch: roti–sabzi–salad OR one-dish meals like egg rice, chicken rice, pulao, biryani
3️⃣ Snack 2: light — a fruit that stays well (banana, guava) + something to munch (makhana, puffed rice, khakhra, or a fun snack she loves)

For me, one non-negotiable is protein. Whether from her tiffin, breakfast, or dinner, I ensure she gets enough through real food — eggs, chicken, prawns, fish, or paneer on vegetarian days.

💡 I truly believe a child’s nutrition should come from food, not shortcuts, because food carries the micronutrients their body needs.

Healing is also part of discipline.
I’ve been working out consistently for 13–14 years. Through jobs, parenting, life changes—fitness has been my anchor.

But this time, I had to hit pause.

It started with a sudden spasm in May. I’ve had a disc bulge since 2009—nearly 15–16 years now—but this time, it escalated into nerve pinching. And the pain… was unbearable.

What followed was forced rest, travel, and weeks of healing.
I haven’t stepped inside a gym since early May. That’s over 100 days of watching my body not move the way it’s used to. Of seeing routines break. Of feeling okay one day, frustrated the next.

And today, I walked back in. Not with beast-mode energy, but with something deeper—gratitude.

Gratitude that I get to move again. That I’ve healed. That I still get to begin—imperfectly, gently, slowly.
Because consistency is powerful, yes.
But restarting is braver.

Here’s to showing up again. 💛
Even with a little fear, even with a few butterflies… but also with a full heart.

For me, working out is the biggest form of self-care.
That workout space? It’s my temple.

And yes—there will be phases in life when you can’t keep doing what you’ve been disciplined about. That doesn’t make you any less.
Don’t romanticize the hustle only when it’s loud. Romanticize the quiet restarts too.
Because healing counts. Showing up again counts.

What does self-care look like for you these days?
Have you ever had to take an unexpected break from something you love—like the gym?
Let’s talk in the comments.👇 2025-08-19 21:02:55 .. 85 -76% 10 -52%

How I’m Teaching My 5-Year-Old About Independence Day 🇮🇳

Every August, kids see flags, hear the National Anthem, and watch parades.
But if we stop there, they only know what we celebrate — not why.

For me, the “why” is where the magic happens.
It’s in the way we tell the story — not like a textbook, but like a feeling they can hold in their hearts.
Freedom isn’t just a date in history… it’s the reason they can run barefoot in the park, choose their favourite snack, or speak their mind without fear.

Independence Day is my chance to give my daughter more than facts.
It’s my chance to give her gratitude, pride, and a little seed of responsibility for the country she calls home.

Because one day, it’ll be her turn to protect it. 🇮🇳

And when we share this story with our kids, we’re not just teaching history — we’re building:
💡 Gratitude for the life and choices they enjoy
💪 Courage to stand up for what’s right
🤝 Unity to work together for a bigger dream
🌱 Responsibility to protect the freedom we have

Think the school run is just uniforms, tiffins, and “hurry up, we’ll be late”?
Here’s what actually changed our mornings — and turned drop-offs into moments of connection, calm, and confidence. 💛

Every morning, we go through 7 simple questions.
Not to check boxes.
But to check in — with her heart, her feelings, and her safety before she spends 8–9 hours away from me.

🧠 Backed by child psychology:
✔️ Emotional check-ins build self-awareness & regulation
✔️ Positive anticipation boosts motivation & focus
✔️ Safety reminders increase preparedness & confidence
✔️ Small intentions strengthen memory & responsibility
✔️ Affection choice builds autonomy & secure attachment

✨ These questions have shifted our mornings — from “rush out the door” to “start the day with connection.”

Sometimes her answers make me laugh.
Sometimes they surprise me.
Sometimes they tell me exactly what she needs that day.

But the part that gets me every time?
She leaves knowing she’s been heard.
She leaves knowing she’s safe.
She leaves knowing she’s deeply loved.

📌 Try asking your child just one of these tomorrow morning — you might learn something beautiful.
📍 Save this as your before-school connection ritual

When it comes to school admissions, most of us get caught in the wrong race.
We’re busy asking whose kids are going where… chasing someone else’s checklist… trying to follow what worked for another family.

But here’s the truth:
The “best” school for someone else’s child might not be the right school for yours.

I know many of you are curious about our choice — and I’ve been open about our criteria because that’s what matters.
The board, the fees, the facilities… they’re all secondary to one thing:
Does this school understand my child?

Every child learns differently.
Some need more structure, some need more freedom.
Some thrive in large classrooms, others shine in smaller groups.
Some are ready to read early, some blossom later — without pressure.

This is why “top school” lists and copy-paste recommendations can be misleading.
The best school is the one where your child feels safe, confident, and excited to learn.

So yes — we’ve made our choice. But the point of my last post wasn’t to give you a shortcut, it was to help you build your own roadmap.

💛 Respect our privacy by not asking for the school’s name — and instead, focus on what your child needs. That’s where the real answer is.

I’m not a parenting coach.
I’m not a psychologist.
And I don’t feel like I have it all figured out.
But I am a mother who’s been showing up for 5 years—
Learning through books, science, research, experience… and mostly, through my child.

This post comes from all of that.
From neuroscience, from attachment theory, and from the deeply human moments that don’t get shared enough.

Here’s what research says we’re truly meant to be for our kids:

➤ Safe Base (Bowlby, Ainsworth)
Children feel safe to explore when they know you’re emotionally present. Not perfect—just consistent and willing to repair.

➤ Brain Builder (Harvard Center on the Developing Child)
“Serve and return” moments—like eye contact and responding to gestures—literally shape brain development.

➤ Co-Regulator (Dr. Daniel Siegel)
Kids can’t calm themselves yet. They borrow our nervous system to learn how.

➤ Translator of the World (Gopnik, Bandura)
They don’t learn values by being told. They absorb them by watching us.

➤ Someone Who Sees Them (Carl Rogers)
True self-worth grows when kids feel seen, not just praised.

➤ Repairer (Gottman, Siegel)
It’s not about never rupturing—it’s about knowing how to reconnect after we do.

➤ Model, Not Manager (Mirror Neurons, Baldwin)
Children copy who we are, not just what we say.

➤ Protector of Their Self-Worth (Deci & Ryan)
Kids thrive when discipline is rooted in connection, not fear.

None of this is about doing it perfectly.
It’s about showing up, repairing, and growing with your child.

🧠 You don’t need to read all the studies—your child already knows when you’re truly present.
📌 Save this for the hard days.

I spend more hours with our daughter. That’s just how our days are shaped right now.
But that doesn’t mean I parent more.

Equal parenting isn’t a 50-50 split.
It isn’t about tracking minutes or keeping score.
It’s about trust, presence, and how we show up for each other — day after day.

He drops her to school every single morning.
He carries the financial weight of our home.
He notices when I’m running low and quietly makes space for me to rest.
He lets me mother with presence by taking care of what’s needed —
without ever asking for credit.
And I do the same for him.

We don’t count who did more.
We don’t make charts.
We just notice when one of us is tired — and the other steps in.

Because equal doesn’t always mean identical.
It means we move like a rhythm.
We pass the baton when it’s needed.
We hold the ground for each other.

This post isn’t a tribute.
It’s a reminder: not all contributions are visible.
But when there’s care, consistency, and quiet support — they’re always felt.

So if you’re a woman wondering whether your partner is doing enough —
pause and look closer.

Sometimes, the quietest kind of care is the kind that holds everything together.

And if you’re a dad reading this — and you know your partner needs to hear it —
send this her way.
Let her know she’s not doing it alone.

This has been the most asked question in my DMs for over a year:
How did you choose your daughter’s school?

And I’ve waited to answer —
because some decisions deserve more than a quick reply.
They deserve honesty. Time. Reflection.

We didn’t start with checklists.
We didn’t begin with curriculum.
We began with one thing:
Our child.

We observed her — how she plays, how she warms up to people, how she learns.
We reflected on our parenting — what values mattered most to us at home.
We trialed routes at different times of the day.
We sat in traffic and asked, “Can we sustain this every morning and evening?”

We visited campuses unannounced,
sat quietly in the corners,
watched how the children were treated,
and how teachers interacted when no one was watching.

And slowly, it became clear:
✨ It’s not about what’s near.
It’s about what’s right.

Because what are we really saving
if we choose a school just for the short drive —
but the environment doesn’t fit our child?

We weren’t looking for the most famous board.
Or the school with the flashiest annual day.
We were looking for:
• Open classrooms
• Clean, child-safe washrooms
• Teachers who were warm, not just qualified
• A place that felt like an extension of home — not a factory

We chose the space that felt emotionally safe.
A school where her spirit felt welcome.
Where discipline was kind,
and curiosity wasn’t punished.

Because no school’s reputation matters
if your child doesn’t feel seen inside those walls.

💬 We’ve chosen not to share the name of the school — for her safety.
But the journey? The values? The ‘why’?
They’re all here. Fully, honestly shared.

If you’re choosing a school right now,
I hope this helps you tune out the noise — and tune into what truly matters.

✨ Start with your child. The rest follows.

And to every parent who asked me this with so much trust —
This post is for you.

📌 If this resonated, please save it, share it, send it to a friend, or drop a comment.
Let’s help more parents choose from clarity, not pressure.

Walt Disney once said,
“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”
He dreamt of a place where parents and children could laugh, dream, and grow together.
And in just 365 days, he built that dream.
Disneyland opened in 1955 - The original Disneyland, in Anaheim, California,- it’s had a name, a heartbeat, and a kind of magic every single day since.
Today, I felt that vision… every bit of it. ✨

This had to be shared.
Because once upon a time, this was the quiet dream of a little girl.
And now—at 42—I got to watch it come true, through teary eyes, with my daughter’s hand in mine.
Not everyone will understand. But I know some of you will.
This one’s for the girl in me who waited—softly, patiently—for her moment.

I had imagined what it might feel like—Disneyland.
But being here? It’s something else.
The music, the colors, the way joy lives in the air… it really is another world.
Every corner feels like it was built from someone’s wildest dream.
And for a moment, it lets you believe that anything is possible.

We didn’t rush. We didn’t chase it.
But now that we’re here, it feels like it waited for us too.

Ohana’s eyes lit up. Mine welled up.
And somewhere in between, a memory got stitched into forever.

And thank you to my husband—truly—
for making this dream come true.
Quietly, fully, without needing to be in the frame…
you made sure I stood in mine. 💙✨ 2025-07-25 16:12:55 .. 306 -14% 23 +10%
Not one of these books features children of color.
That one comment on my last post stayed with me.
And she was right.

I had shared some beloved classics. But I hadn’t widened the lens enough.
I’m grateful for that reminder—because what we read shapes how our children see themselves & others.

So here’s Part 3 of this series—5 beautiful, inclusive picture books that center Black joy, Asian pride, Indigenous stories & gender expression. These are books that say: you belong.

📚 5 Inclusive Books to Read Before Age 5
1. Last Stop on Market Street – Matt de la Peña (Ages 3–6)
A grandma & her grandson ride the city bus after church—what follows is a gentle journey through the everyday, filled with love, questions, & the quiet beauty of noticing. Centers Black & Latino characters.
2. Hair Love – Matthew A. Cherry (Ages 3–7)
When a dad helps his daughter with her hair, he’s doing more than styling—he’s building her confidence. This joyful book celebrates Black families, natural hair, & the love woven into everyday moments.
3. Eyes That Kiss in the Corners – Joanna Ho (Ages 3–6)
A lyrical, poetic book about an Asian girl learning to see her eyes—not as something to change, but as something to cherish. It’s tender, proud & powerfully affirming.
4. Fry Bread – Kevin Noble Maillard (Ages 3–7)
This sensory-rich story honors Native American food, family, & tradition. Repetition, rhythm, & backmatter give depth to a simple but meaningful read. A book that feeds the heart.
5. Julian Is a Mermaid – Jessica Love (Ages 4–8)
Julian sees three women dressed as mermaids & dreams of being one too. When his Abuela sees him dressed up, she doesn’t shame him—she joins him. A quiet, beautiful book about identity & unconditional love.

Most of these books are available on Amazon India, Kahani Tree, and other inclusive bookstores.

She said, “Mama, wait—I want to take your photo.”
And 5 clicks later, I had this.

No angles discussed. No poses planned.
Just a quiet sidewalk, a balloon skirt, and a surprisingly good 7/11 coffee in hand.
Oh, and a very serious 5-year-old behind the lens saying,
“Now smile!”

You all loved this in Stories—
and honestly, when your child captures the vibe better than most adults…
it deserves to live on the grid.

Maybe it’s the skirt.
Maybe it’s the Day 2 mood.
Or maybe it’s just Tokyo, working its magic again.

🦓 DIY Zebra Costume Using Waste Materials

Made this for Animal Dress-Up Day using just things we had at home. It was easy, zero-waste, and so much fun to create.

🧃 Materials Used:
– 1 old Amazon/carton box
– White paint or paper
– Black duct tape or chart paper strips
– Pipe cleaners (for the zebra mane)
– Plain white full-sleeve t-shirt
– Scissors, tape, glue
– Black marker or sketch pen

⸻

✂️ How We Made It:
	1.	Painted the cardboard box white and let it dry.
	2.	Added black zebra stripes using duct tape (you can also use paper strips or a black marker).
	3.	Cut out eyes and a nose using leftover paper.
	4.	Used pipe cleaners to create a cute zebra mane on top of the box.
	5.	Cut a round face opening in the front of the box—it acts like a zebra snout helmet.
	6.	Took a plain white tee and added black tape stripes to match the box.
	7.	That’s it! A full DIY zebra costume—zero spending, all heart.

✨ Bonus: It was a total hit at school and everyone asked where we got it from!

Where Milk Comes From 🐄 — A Farm Visit Every Child Should Experience

Some things can’t be taught through screens or books — they have to be felt.
So I took Ohana to Mr. Milkman Mittal Farms, and it turned out to be one of the most meaningful experiences we’ve shared.

It was on our vacation to-do list for a while, and I had shared it in my Pune With Kids series a month ago — finally visiting felt extra special. And it did not disappoint!

✅ We fed cows and patted baby calves
✅ We saw the fully automated milking process — no human touch involved
✅ We learned how cow fodder is grown and freshly mixed right on the farm
✅ We saw the entire process — milking, chilling, testing, and hygienic packing

Ohana asked the sweetest questions —
“Do baby cows stay with their mums?”
“Do they get bedtime hugs?”
And somewhere between the feeding and giggles… she understood where her food really comes from.

No TV on weekdays — and no meltdowns?
Yes, it’s possible.
But not because it was easy.
We’ve worked hard for this.
We’ve held space through tantrums.
We’ve watched our daughter shift — slowly, over time.
And now — after a full year of following this rhythm — I’m finally ready to share how we made it work.

📺 We didn’t ban screens overnight.
We didn’t punish or bribe.
We just created a screen-free weekday rhythm with gentle routines and real connection.

Even now, during her summer vacation, the rule is the same:
❌ No TV Monday to Thursday
✅ Friday is her moment — her choice, her treat.
Because it’s not a rule. It’s a ritual.

💬 I live in a nuclear setup and handle Ohana single-handedly most days.
So if you think, “It must be easier for both if us” Let me say this clearly:It’s not easy. It’s possible. And what I see in her now makes every effort worth it.

The truth? Most screen-related meltdowns last 10–15 minutes. But the more options you give…The more involved you stay…The more present you are…

✨ They move on.
✨ They find something else.
✨ They regulate.
They begin to forget the screen — because something better is filling that space.

👣 Swipe through the slides — I’m sharing 11 real things that helped us reduce TV on weekdays without guilt or drama.

And yes — I know not every home is the same.
I’ve had DMs asking:
💬 “What if grandparents switch on the TV?”
💬 “What if I’m working and need that break?”

✨ You can’t control every screen. But you can share your reason. You can explain to your child:“This is our rhythm. It helps us feel calm.”And when they feel the shift in their body — they begin to believe it too.

✨ She plays more.
✨ Sleeps deeper.
✨ Talks more.
✨ And our evenings? They’re no longer rushed or restless.
They’re real.

📍This is Part 2 of my “Rethinking Screen Time” series.
Part 1 was the why.
This post is the how.
Part 3 coming soon …

📌 Save this if you’re trying to reduce screen time at home.

✨ A train ride with no bags, no hotel booking… just one big window and a lot of joy.

We boarded the Vistadome coach of the Pragati Express from Pune Junction at 6:50 AM, just for the ride.
No plans to reach Mumbai. No pressure to “travel.”
We simply got off at Panvel, where our car was waiting, drove back, stopped at Lonavala for lunch, and reached home by 2 PM.

The most scenic stretch? Lonavala to Karjat — lush valleys, misty ghats, and waterfalls pouring down the cliffs.
And inside the coach? Glass ceilings, 180° swivel seats, and kids too stunned by the views to ask “Are we there yet?”

⸻

📍 Trip Info You Asked For

• Train Name: Pragati Express (12126)
• Route: Pune → Lonavala → Karjat → Panvel → Thane → Dadar → Mumbai CSMT
• Departure: 6:50 AM from Pune
• Arrival: 10:15 AM at Panvel | 11:15 AM at Mumbai CSMT
• Coach: AC Vistadome
• Fare: ₹1,010–₹1,015 per person (adults & kids with individual seats pay same fare)

🎒 We rode just one way (Pune to Panvel) and returned by car. You can also do this in reverse — start from Mumbai and get off at Lonavala or Pune.

⸻

ℹ️ Just to clarify — Vistadome is not a train, it’s a coach.
You’ll find it attached to select trains like the Pragati Express and the Deccan Queen, both running between Pune and Mumbai.
The word Vistadome comes from:
• vis (as in “visit”)
• ta (like “tah”)
• dome (as in “dome”)
It literally means a dome that gives you a scenic view — and it lives up to the name.

💡 Parenting tip:

Even if you’re not planning a trip, this makes for a perfect mini-vacation for kids.
No screen time. No crowds. Just one train and a whole lot of nature.

🎬 Yes, the reel is a little longer than usual — but if it makes you smile, or gives you an idea for your next weekend plan,
share it with someone who needs a window seat moment.
