Mom always loved to get video of the places we stayed BEFORE we dumped all our stuff everywhere. This was at a place we visited in Mexico last February. We miss her so much.

I debated whether to post this but I thought since Easter is a season that celebrates hope, I’d share a video from Elise’s funeral a few weeks ago. Elise’s daughter and her friends sang this beautiful rendition of “Take This Body Home” by Rose Betts and I hope it brings you peace. We miss her so much it’s hard to imagine but we’re going to do our best to make her proud of us and #KFG

Elise used to say that museums and historical sites are great, but when you’re traveling with kids, sometimes you just need a good playground. Finding playgrounds and parks is a fun, relaxing, and cheap way to explore a city. It’s also a great way to meet and interact with locals.

One night as we wandered through the streets of Luxor, Egypt we stumbled upon a little neighborhood amusement park and we couldn’t resist checking it out. We rode the rides and drove the bumper cars, and made some new friends. Afterward, we took a very sketchy horse-drawn chariot back to our hotel (at an outrageous speed on the highway 😬). It was one of our favorite nights of the trip and the whole evening probably cost $10.

Sometimes the best “cultural exchange” happens on monkey bars or bumper cars.

Everyone grieves in their own way. For us, adventure is the best medicine (well, that and lots of therapy). When Mom died last month, we promised ourselves that we would Keep Freakin Going #KFG So, 3 weeks after she passed, we boarded a flight to Egypt to go on the trip that she had planned for us. It was very emotional, but it was also healing to spend time as a family and create new memories together. We know Mom was with us, cheering us on 🪽❤️

We did it!! We’re so grateful that we were able to go on this final trip that our mom planned for us before she died. Egypt was amazing, despite the super sad circumstances. Lots of fun, lots of tears. The people were kind and welcoming, the culture was fascinating, and the history was everywhere. We got to visit amazing monuments, and local villages, sail the Nile, and got to immerse ourselves in the culture. We’ll post more details once we’re back so follow along as we try to Keep ‘Freakin’ Going with our new, smaller family.

Our mom always wanted us to get a taste of real life when we’d visit a country. On our last day in Cairo, we decided that our Dad needed a makeover so we took him to a Barbershop and it was definitely an experience! Do you think Mom would have approved of the new look?

This trip has been so bittersweet for us. Elise was our whole world and the pain of losing her is hard to overstate. But our family has always been at our best when we’re traveling. So, after weeks of crashes, hospitals, death, and funerals, it feels good to be back out in the world creating new family memories that aren’t all sad or terrifying. It’s given us a chance to spend quality time together and really live our new family motto: Keep ‘Freakin’ Going

Follow and share and let’s #KFG together! #TakeTheTrip

Hi everyone, this is Elise’s husband, Dan. As many of you probably know, Elise and I were in a terrible car accident in Mexico on March 6 and Elise died from her injuries a few days later. My girls and I are brokenhearted by the loss of their amazing Mom, but we want to honor Elise’s memory by continuing to travel the world together. We also want to continue her mission to help families with kids to get out there and #takethetrip so we’ve decided to try and keep 3KidsTravel going. Our sweet Elise was an incredible person and an inspiration to so many around the world. We miss her more than words can say and we’re going to do our best to make her proud.

Before she passed, Elise planned our most ambitious family adventure yet: an amazing Spring Break in Egypt. Just a few days after she died, we talked as a family and we all agreed that Mom would really want us to go on the trip. We knew it would be incredibly difficult and emotional but, 3 weeks after losing Elise, my girls and I boarded a plane. We hope you’ll follow along 3kidstravel to see how it’s going so far…

And if Elise inspired you to travel, let us know by tagging her 3kidstravel in your post ❤️

Don’t listen to anyone who says you should wait to travel til your kids hit a certain age. Traveling with little kids has its challenges but often it only gets harder to get away once they are teens…

But, if there were to be a perfect age to travel with kids, what age do you think it would be? And are you there yet? 🙋‍♀️

If you are only taking your kids to places where they are “entertained” by rides or that are deemed “kid-friendly” without thinking about what you enjoy, you might start to feel disconnected or restless in your family travel.

There is another way ✨ Just as much as we bring ourselves into our children’s worlds, we should also welcome them into ours. Children can learn to enjoy museums, music, art, history, and culture. Introducing them to things we love will also allow us to enjoy what we are doing together as well.

So if your travel so far has mostly focused around entertaining your kids, you might want to pause and rethink what you are teaching them ❤️ 2025-03-03 03:39:38 If you ar.. 813 -69% 7 -92%

Not how we expected to start our first three week trip to Europe, but we survived. It was not the worst thing that could happen — but at the time (as new family travelers in 2016) it was a big deal. Two stressed parents in a new city with little kids and no way to communicate with each other or really anyone else — no Google maps or Google translate.

The upside, after this travel hiccup the rest of the trip seemed easy (even an 11 hour flight where our toddler didn’t sleep a wink 😳).

Have you had any crazy travel disasters or minor hiccups like this? How did you handle it and did you learn anything about yourself in the process 👇

Traveling with kids should be FUN but it doesn’t have to be just amusement parks and zoos. We love to find unique places all over the world where our kids can learn while also jumping, climbing, and exploring! What about your family? Do you have any favorite spots?

If you’re planning to visit Edinburgh with your kids, here are a few activities we’d recommend:

1. Ride the Edinburgh Festival Wheel (catch the views of the whole city)

2. Climb Arthur’s Seat (and find some ice cream afterwards)

3. Visit the Royal Yacht Britannia (it’s like stepping back in time and a glimpse into the royal lives)

4. Tour Holyrood Palace, Abbey, and Gardens (the family multimedia tour was quite enjoyable!)

5. Watch street performers along the Royal Mile (we were there for the Fringe Festival so there were tons of performers)

6. Explore Edinburgh Castle (prepare for a lot of walking)

7. Play at the Prince Street Gardens Playground (the views are spectacular of the city)

Have you been? Did we miss any of your favorites?

Packing light is a skill we are still working on BUT we have mastered the art of packing just a carry-on for every trip we go on (whether it’s a long weekend or a 14-day international adventure). Here are a few tips that help us 👇

1. If we book anything longer than 7 days we have to have somewhere we can do laundry.

2. We always pack an extra outfit in our backpacks in addition to what’s in our carry-on suitcase. This outfit, plus what we wear on the plane, gives us two extra outfits.

3. We always use packing cubes, we especially like compression packing cubes. Bring some wrinkle release spray and you don’t have to worry about wrinkly clothes.

4. We go light on toiletries or find our favorite travel versions. You can skip your skincare routine for a week — trust us!

5. We promise, you really never need more than three pairs of shoes. If you find yourself overpacking, take a break and come back later — you probably have decision fatigue and need a mental break.

6. You don’t need your entire medicine cabinet. Unless you are headed to a developing country, you can usually find what you need abroad (and often cheaper). Don’t let yourself overpack out of fear.

What other tips would you add for packing light when you travel? Comment below and let us know 👇

Raise your hand if you’re judging us now 🙋‍♀️

We are pretty much a “no electronics for kids” household when we’re not traveling, but travel days are an exception. Have we had kids watch their screens for an entire 12 hour flight? — why, yes, yes we have. And we don’t regret it one bit.

How do you handle electronics when you travel? ✈️ We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments 👇

Do you let your kids help plan trips? Anywhere we travel in the world we mix in activities our kids want to do with activities the adults want to do — and sometimes they are the same! And, when in doubt, we ALWAYS add in a playground.

Also, just because your kids are little doesn’t mean you have to spend an entire trip at an amusement park or zoo. In fact, we usually don’t. Our kids have learned to appreciate art museums, historical tours, sight-seeing, etc but we always mix in something fun for them and usually something they’ve picked or are drawn to.

Not sure where to start? We recommend watching YouTube videos of places you want to visit with your kids and see what they are excited to learn about and discover. It’s insulting to kids to think they only need to be entertained — they love to learn new things if you can capture their curiosity. We like to incorporate scavenger hunts, kid-friendly tours, food experiences, and unique museums into travel with kids.

How do you involve your kids in your travel planning? Let us know in comments 👇

It’s inevitable that eventually your kids will outgrow a stroller — but it’s hard to know when to ditch it. Our philosophy was to keep bringing the stroller until ALL of our kids stopped taking naps and could walk (without us carrying them) for a few hours at a time with breaks.

Strollers are great for storage, seating if you can’t find any, rain coverage, and sometimes a place to tame an unruly child. If your kids will still use a stroller, and you are going somewhere with a lot of walking, more often than not you should just BRING the stroller — especially an easy-to-fold travel stroller.

We kept bringing our easy umbrella stroller all over the world until one trip we didn’t use it at all — and then we knew we had reached a magical family milestone ✨

Do your kids still need a stroller when traveling? If not, how did you know it was time to retire your stroller?

Once you retire the stroller we’d suggest this alternative method of transport 😉 just don’t break your suitcase!
